  1. Will be there for sure - what is the ticket situation at WSU?  Last season at St. Cloud I was told three times that the game was sold out before I finally  caught some, then the playoff game had seats unsold.  Hopefully the WSU athletics has more of a clue about  the  possibility of visiting fans.

Maybe you should have tried the day tickets went on sale for the regular season game. If the game is sold out, it is sold out. There were UND fans that bought tickets outside of the visiting section. I guess you called too late. Should every UM hockey fan get a seat automatically when they call the REA for tickets?

  2. And Jack, there was just an article in the St. Cloud newspaper a few days ago. SCSU can only afford to fund 24 scholarships for football as it is! They also only drew 2300 fans for a playoff game against a top conference rival. How in the world would SCSU ever afford a move to Division I? Mankato is probably a bit better off, but not by much. Both would probably prefer to be the "big boys" in a souped up NSIC or all Minnesota D2 conference than ever consider D-I.

Unofrtunately the SCSU admin does not have sports on the radar because it is not PC to focus on sports. The university actually had a surplus of over 1mil and I think a portion of that should go to football scholarships. We will be at 28 scholarships this year and more for the next year. I can't believe we can have success against fully funded teams that have more tradition than SCSU, but lately we have. Every other sport is fully funded and I don't know why we don't fully fund football. Thank God we have great corporate donors but the athletic department does not ask for funds from private parties as much as they should. They should take a page out of UND's book when it comes to that. As far as fan support... it is what it is. This is a tough town for football with SJU and the areas favorite team being the U of M.

A move to DIAA for msu or SCSU is an imposibility.

  3. I was at that game and there definately were just as many Sioux fans as Heavy-weight fans.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I would say that is a very fair comment. I was completely embarrassed at our turnout. But I am sitll proud of out team.

  4. I'm still baffled by the attendance at the SCSU/UND playoff game. SCSU was hosting its first playoff game in 15 years, playing the game against a major conference rival in a brand new stadium, and the weather was absolutely beautiful for November (mid-50's and sunny). How in the world do you only draw 2500 fans, half of which are supporting the other team? Unbelievable.

I think the bottom line is that some schools have great fan support for football win or lose and others obviously do not. Sometimes breaking that culture and turning a place into a "football school" is easier said than done.

SCSU has never drawn for football but the reg season game between SCSU and UND was a tough ticket in St Cloud. I think that SJU had a game that day with over 10000 in attendance. That didn't help because it takes away the non-partisan football fan out of the picture. The casual fan would rather take in that atmosphere.

I don't know what to do to get students to go to SCSU football games. I bet there were only 50 students at the game. Oh well, I guess I just have to yell a little louder to make up for the poor attendance.

  5. 3-0 against St. Cloud with wins over Seattle-Pacific and Grand Valley State!  We were 5-0 against teams in the Elite Eight - disappointing that we are not there!!

Somebody wrote this in the SC Times chat-

It was awesome to see fellow NCC fans from UND cheering on the Huskies. Many individuals would not be able to cheer on a rival, but it was nice to see especially since some even found a shirt that was red to wear. WOW! It shows character about that university, and it's fans.

    And I agree!

  6. It is going to be a great site. Go get over there so the conversation can begin. By the way, nice win over my Huskies last weekend. I think that SCSU is good but needs one impact player to become great. Again, nice wins.

  7. I have been to "The Jungle" and the Alerus Center. Crowd noise the Alerus wins hands down. Atmosptere PSU wins because they have some great tailgating and pregame traditions. But the crowd noise will (should) not disrupt UND. As Sid Hartman says, "just win baby". Good luck UND!

  8. very embarassing since the "official" attendance was revealed as around 2500??  I'd say there were 1000 Sioux fans at least and probably close to 55% SCSU -45% UND.  ON THE UP SIDE...They have a great work-study program at Jan Brady State...they managed to wrangle up a DOZEN people to "demonstrate" this time around...not too impressive...especially since they obviously keep the SAME SIGNS in storage for the 4-5 trips UND makes to JANLAND every year

Please reserve the JBSU for U of M hockey fans. I think is a funny nickname when used by a UM backer. This is not a hockey board and it is not a fitting nickname comming from a UND fan. You can do better than that. Also, don't let the 10 protestors bother you. It's a free country. UND has the right to have whatever mascot they want and others have the right to protest UND's decision.

    Good luck in Michigan.

  9. Less than 3000 fans at their playoff game.  How many of those were Sioux fans?  How can a community of 60,000, a school the size of UND or a bit bigger not come out to the first St. Cloud playoff game since 1989?  The stadium only seats 4000 to 5000.  I feel bad for the St. Cloud players, especially the seniors to have to not only end their careers, but to do it at "HOME" with the anemic turnout of St. Cloud fans.  Throughout the game, the Sioux players urged the crowd on for noise as if they were at home.  Good for the Sioux, shame on the city of St. Cloud and the surrouding area as well as St. Cloud State University.

As a SCSU fan, I AGREE. There was no promotion for the game. No St Cloud Times article, no promotion by the university. As I said on a previous post, the casual fan did not even know when the game was. I am not embarrassed to be a SCSU fan but I felt very bad for our team. The SCSU students are very apathetic when it comes to football. Our market is tough with many local sports fans holding season tickets for Minnesota sports teams and SJU having a gate of 10,000 at their home game. I am tired of excuses, in fact I am pissed.

    Good luck in Michigan.

  10. I just arrived home to Minneapolis after watching a heart pounding victory by the Sioux.  Congratulations to both teams and I would like to thank the fans of St. Cloud and UND for having a lot of class.  Definitely a great road trip and game!

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Too bad someone had to lose that game. I think both sets of fans are classy and the two teams were classy also. It looked like there was little or no trash talk and the UND and SCSU players were always helping each other up after the plays.

The thing that upset me more than losing the game, was the lack of student support at the game. I don't know why SCSU can't draw for football. There was NO promotion by the university and the local paper had nothing on the game. Casual fans knew nothing about the game. We draw well for hockey and basketball but football is a nut we can't seen to crack.

    Anyway, good luck against MTU.

  11. First time at Huskies home turf.

Is tailgaiting allowed?  What time does it start?

What are some good bars before the game?  What are some good bars after the game?

Bringing up a car load of Sioux fans from Minneapolis to enjoy the festivities!

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Yes, tailgating is allowed in the lots at the south end of the hockey arena, on the corner of 5th ave south and 13th st south (Herb Brooks Way). the tailgating starts whenever you want to start partying.

The bar scene is very good. Just go north on 5th ave south until you hit downtown. Some of the bars in a one block area are The Red Carpet, Press, MC's, DB Searle's, McRudy's, and Superstars. There are others but I don't usually go in them. The Red Carpet is the most popular with the best looking women and live music. (does not hurt to look) They have 6 bars in the building and have live music. They also have a smoke free, higher end martini bar. Ohara's on 33rd and 3rd (or as it is said in Stearns County, tirdy tird and tird) They have a little older crowd and is a very nice large bar.

  12. The Alerus Center crowd will scare the crap out of UMD. I know I was shocked at he crowd noise when I watched the UND/SCSU game last year. (what a depressing game)

This one will get ugly. UND 48 UMD 7.

UND could score 100 but has much more class than Pittsburg State!

  13. I'll be going to the game saturday and was wondering where the sioux fans will be prior to the game.  With the new stadium, how is parking, tailgaiting, etc.  Any info would be great.  We should have a good crowd.  I got a couple tickets last night, but they were tough to come by.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

The tailgating takes place in the parking lots at the south end of the hockey arena. There is plenty of parking and tailgating going on. Tailgating is a new trend in St Cloud. It has been great! The lots are located on campus, at the corner of 5th ave south and 13th st south. I have heard there will be about 2000 UND fans there, which is about half the joint. See ya in St Cloud and good luck to both teams.
