  1. Womens hockey will never make money. Look at The University of Minnesota Womens' team. They are one of the top programs in the country and they can't even fill a small arena. It is a complete joke! Where is the "equity"?

  2. I Agree.....But the Two Issues here are not only undersized, But overpriced....We now Rent Space to Play All Our Major Sports...Football,Basketball, Hockey....And I Believe the Rent is Very Overpriced for a Donated Facility.....Were Still Losing Money...? was not the Ralph suppose to help generate extra Revenue for All Sports, I beleive that was Ralph's Dream....?

Wait a minute...you mean to tell me that the REA and the Betty were "donated" to the university and now you have to pay rent. (to who?) With the very little I know about the situation, it sounds more like somebody put up an investment property rather than a donated property. It is like putting up a mini-mall with guaranteed tenants for life...if it were only that easy.

Are the rent checks going to a corporation that is affiliated with the Engelstad family? Does the REA make money? If so, does UND get a piece of it? Thanks!

If I am way off base...let me know.

  3. When the plans came forward for the new facility, was it planned as a practice gym or a game day arena? I find it strange that the university with the largest following in the NCC would plan things this way. SCSU has a smaller following than UND and I think The Betty would be too small even for us. Good win by the UND gals.

  4. Do the people in charge of the music at the Ralph know that there was actually music made after 1990. I am so sick of Guns and Roses, Def Leppard, and any of the other old music. Please listen to some new stuff, visit some more Pro arenas, and start changing things up.

Try sitting through a game at the Nation Hockey Center...THE MUSIC IS TERRIBLE! God SCSU needs a band...we will have one next year.

  5. I agree/disagree. I agree that US Sioux fans should be thankful for what we have. The betty, despite a few small inconveniences is hand over fist better than most ncc basketball arenas (except maybe mankato's).

St. Cloud's arena was horrible. It could be that I'm spoiled from the Betty, but when I have to stand up, not because of the play, but because my butt hurts from the uncomfortable seats... it's not a good arena. That place could use some major renovations.

I think you are spoiled by the facilities that are at UND. Alerus, REA, and The "Betty"...come on. I will give it to you on the bleachers being hard in Halenbeck, but a horrible arena? My arse has never met a bleacher that it liked. The UND people that I know and have talked to really like watching games at Halenbeck Hall. Just remember that it is an old gym (with hard seats)

  6. As a SCSU fan I will way that UND is very impressive! Physical and deep. SCSU made a game out of it but UND is the better team. I knew we would have to shoot lights out to have a chance and our outside shooting was horrible.

I was also nice to see a big bunch of UND fans make the trip to Halenbeck Hall to add to the atmosphere. They were loud but very cordial in the win. It was the largest crowd that has every watched a women's game at Halenbeck. Who knows how big the crowd would have been if there was not a sold out SCSU hockey game next door.

Anyway, good luck the rest of the year.

  7. If you want to sit in the lower level when you attend today's basketball doubleheader and you have not purchased your tickets, you may be out of luck.

There were about 25 lower-level tickets remaining Friday for today's North Central Conference games between the North Dakota and St. Cloud State men's and women's basketball teams. The lower level seats about 1,800, but there are plenty of upper level seats available at Halenbeck, which seats 6,451.

"I enjoy it better up there," said Chad Sheetz, St. Cloud State's assistant director of athletics for business and financial operations. "You can see everything up there. If you're up too close, you can't see it as well."

Sheetz said that the University of North Dakota bought "300-400" tickets to re-sell to its fans for the games.

"That's a lot more than usual," Sheetz said.

A big reason for the demand is the matchup in the 6 p.m. women's game, which features the undefeated Huskies, ranked No. 4 in NCAA Division II, and the second-ranked and undefeated Sioux. The men's game follows at approximately 8 p.m.

The St. Cloud State men's hockey team also plays Minnesota-Duluth at 7:07 p.m. on Saturday. Fans for that game may be surprised by the parking situation when they get to campus.

"The parking is going to be a little hectic," Sheetz said. "Basketball (fans) won't have a problem.

"The hockey fans may run into a little trouble with all the people coming to the basketball games."

Here is a link to what Ulferts had to say about UND...She said they are the best ever.

  8. minn st mankato is by far the best laid out functional facility in the ncc...great lighting ,great atomsphere, great sight lines, built in a bowl like structure you enter from the top, easy access to concessions and restrooms, ring like vouyer area is excellent.....made to house only b-ball, volleyball, wrestling.....

also great smoked glass overlook booster area...donated by taylor from the timberwolves with help with the namesake bresnan arena....great place to watch a game...

maybe only draw back 4800 great seats...700 standing room....u always may want bigger perfect d2 size

I really like the layout of Bresnan, but the atmosphere is not that good and I didnt' like the lighting at all. It takes alot of pepple in there to make some noise and the sound is kinda dead. The layiout is perfect for dealing with crowds and it is the nicest looking arena in the NCC.

  9. But when you are on top, you quickly become the team everybody loves to hate.  I think we are seeing that with UND football.  I guess it beats the alternative of being the lovable losers.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

In St Cloud there is nothing but respect for UND football. We don't love to hate you we just love to beat you. (but that dosen't happen too often) ;)

  10. Is it true that REA sells Sioux-per Dogs. Or was that a joke? I don't find this offensive but do you think that this is an example of whan some Native Americans are talking about?

Just a outsider trying to understand the two sides of this issue

  11. I would like the opinion about the SCSU and UND game last week.  I knew UND would be tough as hell and I thought the Huskies would be tough if we did not turn the ball over.

I thought the defenses for both teams were good and the UND offensive line and linebackers were much better than SCSU.

Do you guys feel that the score was an indication of UND being that much better than SCSU?  Or did the Huskies not bring it?

I do feel the better team won the game but I was so embarrassed about our preformance.

    Just curious

I forgot to mention that the UND crowd was incredible!

  13. Hey, all you "racist mascot" protesting SCSU fans:  You like apples?  How 'bout them apples?  Hope you choke on it.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Were ther protestors up there that made the trip from SC? I wouldn't think so because there are only 30 of them in all.

  14. I am going to the game with a group from SC and I need to know where the SCSU fans will be sitting. Is it by the students?

Is it in the corner on the west side?

Can we get tickets at the door and request SCSU sections?

  15. My main point is that we have an arena built for this.  And yes it is the best arena in the world.  If you go detail for detail, every NHL scout I talked to at the world juniors agreed. but that is an argument for another day.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

UND has an world class arena. But the one thing Grand Forks has going against it is the fact that it is isolated and has a small population. With the popularity of hockey on the decline, the NCAA will want to keep the Frozen Four in large media markets.

I do believe that GF deserves a fair shot because of the arena and great hockey tradition. I do not think having a great arena and good fans is enough to land the championship. I have a hard time believing that the NCAA would award such a small media market the Frozen Four. Nothing against the city because I reall like GF.
