My personal preference is when we have the puck, offsides and icing are interpreted liberally, sort of the old baseball rule at second base (in the area). But, when the other team has the puck, strict enforcement.

Drury is a college guy. Chance to see what Carels can do against a step up in competition, for free. I could see the staff pairing him with Emery, which would be fun for the Rangers.

A lot of chatter about the Rangers taking Carels. I would think that would be good for us.

Opening NCHC game vs Western Michigan November 6-7
Our only games against WMU this season? Finish with them last year, start with them this year, and it's the only time we see them in either season?

Pretty thin on D, at this point, and that’s even assuming the Rangers don’t sign E.J.
I know the popular take is this must mean we’re going to see a bunch of CHL studs come in. But this looks to me like we’re going fishing in the portal again, which to me is a net loss. I’d rather have J.J. and Strathman over anything we might snag in the portal to replace them.

There have been a few posts on here that reminded me of this quote recently, not to call you out specifically. I'm guilty of it too, being a fellow human and all.
Yeah, patterns are fun:
siouxsports 2003: “there is no reason we shouldn’t have the same success as Minnesota.”
2005: “there is no reason we shouldn’t have the same success as Denver.”
2012: “there is no reason we shouldn’t have the same success as BC.”
2019: “there is no reason we shouldn’t have the same success as Duluth.”
2026: “there is no reason we shouldn’t have the same success as Denver.”

Is there any doubt Denver is going to win this game? What a spot to be in as a program.
I would not sleep on this Wisconsin team. DU should absolutely win, and it could be a 5-1 snoozer. But Wisconsin is on a free roll. They shouldn’t be here. Everyone “knows” they are going to lose.

Carle coached his team to two shutout NCAA wins in his first season, before losing a one goal game in the semi’s.

The Tom’s pregame event is already an epic fail. No one bothered to tell them that if the event starts at 10:30 that we’ll be there at 8:00. Place is locked up tighter than a drum. It’s a Vegas bar?
-
Not only did Minnesota lose in the semi’s, they lost the 3rd place game to Providence (back when they still played it). During the championship game, Wisconsin fans carried a bedsheet around the walkway that read, “Hail Mary, full of grace, Minnesota’s in 4th place.”
My first Frozen Four.

Phil Sykes. Any other Sioux play in 3 championship games, as he did?
I'm trying to think back to other seniors on the team.
Cary Eades is an obvious choice, and my first guess would be that he played in all three games. I know Frank Burggraf was a senior in '82 as well. For some reason, however, I don't remember him playing in the '82 championship game. I don't know if he was injured or not.
I also think Mike Stone was a senior that year, but for some reason I thought he was one of those guys who played at UND for a year or two, then left, and then came back, and I'm too lazy to look up to see whether he was there for all three years.
It would have to be someone from that time frame, however, since we don't have three championship games in four years at any other point in time.

Yeah, I expect us to continue to compete. We all understand that last year was a perfect storm.
We are the only team that has beaten all 4 Frozen four teams though. Tough to sit and watch as the last team out essentially.
Strangely enough, I think Minnesota also beat all of the Frozen Four teams as well.

here's a question...assuming UND doesn't win it, whats the order of Frozen Four teams you would prefer win the title from most tolerable to most annoyed if they win?
At this point in time, it feels like the NCHC is the only thing standing in the way of the B1G and total world domination.
Three straight football championships, by three different programs. Women's hockey championship forever (I know, it's the WCHA, but it's the B1G teams winning it). Women's basketball champion last night. Decent chance at the men's championship tonight.
DU and UND need to slap them down Thursday.

I would obviously like UND to win it all. As for an alternate, all I'll say is that at the beginning of the season I placed five bets on five different teams to win the championship, at the following odds:
UND +1800
UConn + 5000
Michigan +900
Denver +1500
Wisconsin +6000
So yeah, outside of UND winning, I do sort of have an order of preference.

What did those banners go for at the sale?
I prefer not to say. My father bought two of them, including the 1982 banner for me. Two others were purchased by a close friend of his. The fifth, the 1980 banner, was purchased by Tim Shea of Tim Shea's Nursery in Grand Forks, and I think he had it hanging in their business.

Cool. Do you have any seats from Ralph I?
I do not. I always tried to sit in what I considered to be my "lucky" seat, Section C, Row 12, Seat 7. It was in the corner, on the student side, so what I imagine was the NE corner of the old REA? By the time the team moved to the new arena, I had long since departed the Grand Forks area, so I never got a chance at any arena memorabilia. I got lucky on the banner because my dad was at the sale.

I was. 1980-1987. And, as I’ve posted here before, I have the original 1982 championship banner from when they auctioned them off following the 1997 flood. Still my favorite team.

I don't care what the scoreboard says. I'm only one point behind jimdahl, and he's the smartest guy on this forum, so I'm going with that.

Wth do we think that was about
Borek was pretty upset after the game. The post game press conference link is below. In it he talks about having to beat the "third team," and how they were really hoping for a power play, but I guess that doesn't happen "out west." He then remembered that they got one, and said "thanks for that, I guess."
I'm guessing Jax doesn't reveal what was said, because it's probably not going to be too flattering to another coach.

2026-27 University of North Dakota Hockey Season
in Men's Hockey

I was actually listening to a podcast and they were talking about the draft and each person’s guess for who goes highest of those players passed over in prior drafts. I don’t recall if it was one of The Athletic podcasts, or Chris Peter’s’ or what, but one of the guys picked MacKenzie and said that he had talked to some teams looking at him for the bottom of the first round.
I don’t see it, but that would be crazy if it happened. Four first round blueliners on the same team? There are probably NHL teams that don’t have that.
