  1. Niagara winning doesn't bother me at all. That's the whole point of having the auto-bid for conference champions. There's always a way for any team to make the NCAA. The season is long enough and most bubble teams had enough chances to make their push higher in the rankings.

True, but the CHA is a joke other than Bemidji. A four team conference getting an auto bid is laughable.

  2. Wow, that is major bummer. A team that deserves to receive an at-large bid will be sitting at home cause of this. Bemidji is the only CHA team that should be in the Tournament.

Bad news for the bubble dwellers, which includes UMD. :glare:

  3. KFAN seeding a NIT hockey tournament.

    #1 Minn vs #8 Breck

#4 St. Lawerence vs #5 CC

#2 BC vs #6 UM Lowell

#3 Sconny vs #7 Eden Prairie

St. Cloud didn't make the tournament.

St. Cloud would be a one-and-done anyway...why invite them?

  4. I think the main reason the Gophers perform poorly in the third place game is because it's tough to come back the next afternoon after playing the night before. I'm not so sure it's about Lucia's mentality as much as others think. I'd love to see the WCHA get rid of the third place game. A team who is already in the NCAA tourney shouldn't have to risk injury to their best players just to claim third place a week before the most important part of the season.

The third place game this year just may mean the difference between making the NCAAs or not for someone. Not to mention that it's all about the Benjamins. And as a fan, I like going to 5 games in 3 days, and hanging out in St. Paul between games on Friday and Saturday.

  5. UMD could lose Thursday and still be in if:

    WCHA Play-in #1: Minnesota defeats Minnesota-Duluth.

WCHA Semifinal #2: Denver defeats Wisconsin.

WCHA Semifinal #1: North Dakota defeats Minnesota.

WCHA Championship game: Denver defeats North Dakota.

WCHA Consolation game: Wisconsin defeats Minnesota.

& if in all other conf. tournaments high seeds win out.

  6. The game will be close but UMD is not the draw I wanted for the Gophers. Unless Stalock gives up softies like he did at Mariucci I'd say UMD will take the game.

He didn't really give up softies, so much as get hung out to dry by the lack of backchecking. Most of the goals he gave up he didn't have much of a chance on.

  7. If you end up playing tDogs, you are definitely going to need to stay out of the box. UMD's powerplay clocked in at 40% against CC, and has been near the top in the country all year.

CC could not score 5x5; both of their goals came with the extra man.

Basically, a good clean game is what both teams need to keep the score close. Hopefully we will see you Friday night!

  8. Here's the homer prediction (and realist prediction):

    Thursday:

    UMD - 4 (UMD 3, UM 2)

    UM - 2

    Friday:

    DU - 1 (UW 2, DU 1)

    UW - 4

    UND - 2

    UMD - 3 OT (UND 4, UMD 3)

    Saturday:

    UND - 5 (UMD 3, DU 1)

    DU - 0

    UMD - 3 (UND 5, UW 4 OT)

    UW - 2

  9. Understandable, I can see where you are coming from. We are also a few short games ago from taking 3 points from UMD though. I think the essential "home ice" is going to be what puts the Gophers over the top.

Based on the way your team has played this season that is a pretty silly statement. Stalock is a much better goalie than Kangas now that the Gophers are in the Final Five tourney don't expect the Refs to let you clutch and grab UMD up and down the ice and the Dogs have some pretty good players as well. The Dogs also did something your team couldn't do beat the Tigers in Colorado springs. Lastly, You forget a lot of fans will be cheering against your team.

Both games in Minneapolis were close, with the Bulldogs leading in both games, and dominating on the forecheck for long stretches. Friday they gave up the tying goal due to a missed call on a blatant interference penalty in front of the Gopher net, and Saturday they had a couple poor defensive breakdowns after taking a 3-2 lead into the third period, and allowed unmarked Minnesota forwards to glide in and put the puck in a half empty net. The D looked much better against CC and even in the high altitude they played tough for 120 minutes. Thursday night is going to be a battle.
