  1. Who gives a crap about what people want to see?  If you're looking out for the best interest of UND, you go for home and home.  If they don't want to make that deal, tell them to go talk to the sheep in their barn.  We have the only thing they don't have, The Nickel Trophy.  If you're going to sell out, just sell the damn trophy for $500,000 and get a coach w/ some Bowl experience who can actually beat the bastards.  AND give him some time to get a team to do it.  This deal was a disgrace to anyone who's ever sweated and bled for the UND football team.  But, hey, we're underdogs, there's money to be made in Vegas in case of a miracle.

  2. Our annual Final Five/Frozen Face-Off crew is working three or four theories we came up w/ the Sat. morning after the MIami game about how we're going to win this whole thing and it seems to be working so far. . . Beware! There might be some slight negativity due to the time they were conceived. ;)

#1) No one had the annual shot of Jameson before the Miami game. . . Lisa now has this covered.

#2) Yale wasn't awesome last year and those idiots won the whole thing why can't our idiots win it? It's our turn.

#3) As long as we never fall behind, we'll win it all. (Chris's theory). We haven't been behind yet!

And #4) I'm sticking w/ the no jersey (just wearing Sioux t-shirts or sweatshirts) since I wasn't wearing one for the Third place game. Although I am

tempted to pull out the Pivetz jersey today! (Will probably stick w/ the t-shirt. It worked last night!)

So stick w/ what you all did last night, and we'll be fine. :)

    So so far so good!

  3. The problem is, when things started going badly Sat. night, one of a couple of things should have been done. 1.) For the first time in years, someone should have gotten into a fight to fire up the team and turn the momentum back our way.

#11 was being a pain in the a** for example. Or Archibald for that matter, should you really get away "clean" w/ a hat

trick? In the early 90s we may have lost, but we at least roughed some people up before they left the building! And

yes, I know that this is a team where, unlike previous years, we don't really have any fighters, but if that's the case, the coach should come up w/ a different plan. . .like pull Saunders for the freshman after the 5th goal; could he

really been worse on breakaways than Saunders?. (Although stopping the cherry picking, B.C. breakaways might have been

another solution!) Or hell, OUR coach could have started throwing things and gotten kicked out of the game. Maybe that would have gotten through to these guys. Some one needed to wake them up during this game and no one stepped up, player or coach.

At the very least, there should have been some serious skating going on afterwards. It was a pathetic effort, all

    around. :(

Ok. That's my one "once every three years" rant. :)

  4. Considering NDSU has a better away record than home record over the past 2 years, I would reconsider this post if I were you.

I wasn't talking about just any games the last two years, just this year's postseson. Regular season is out the window when it's the Playoffs.

  5. If NDSU would have had to go on the road instead of staying home this postseason, it would have been a completely different scenerio. For most of the postseason, I felt like that guy on TV after their missed extra point turned into a 2 pointer. . . complete amazement. Who wins a playoff game cuz the other team doesn't show up w/ a field goal kicker? Or to allow someone to run 270 or so yards on you but not have them be able to get in the endzone? It was truly a blessed run. They were a monsterously better team last year than they were this year. Especially offensively.

  6. All the good paying jobs are in Bismarck and west. Hard to find housing west of Bismarck though. If you have a CDL and have any experience driving in winter, you can make a lot of money. Housing in Bismarck is still reasonable and a lot of people are starting to use it as a home base for oil field work. But there are also a lot of other jobs in Bismarck as well. Check the Sunday Bismarck Tribune or google North Dakota Jobs. Also, Bismarck is a little bit warmer than Grand Forks, and has a real river. If only the Sioux played there! ;0

  7. Apparently St. Clair took a couple of high school classes on-line that the NCAA doesn't want to give him credit for. His 2nd appeal just got turned down, (you get three), so I don't know if it looks so good for this year. :( Of course, this is all just the latest rumors. Have no idea how reliable the source is, so take it w/ a grain of salt. :)

  8. Bought a ton of tix for relatives for the Regional in GF, and won tix to the Frozen Four in Milwaukee. Sat in the second row w/ a college girlfriend who just moved to Milwaukee the week before, great seats in the players section. (Met Robbie Earl before the game. . . nice guy, even though he was a big diver!) Anyway, sat by the biggest loser jerk of a Boston College fan that ever lived (although I've heard they're all that way from anyone I've ever asked) who chirped and dissed North Dakota the whole game. (My girlfriend says to this day that it's a good thing they don't serve beer at those things. . . I'd have never made it through the second period w/o getting kicked out!) We lost of course, but I was still so mad about it the next day that I wouldn't sit by the Boston College fans at the tasting part of the Miller Brewery tour. My friend and I hung back so we could sit by some Sioux fans. And it's all History after that. I married the scruffy one two years later and our son will be playing for the Sioux in 2028. :)

P.S. Still mad I didn't write a great letter to the brewery about how we met so we could have gotten free beer for the wedding dance. :) Went to Denver Frozen Four for the Honeymoon and lost, so we're staying home and going to Wild Wings on Thurs. in Bismarck. I think we're due. . . . it's our son's first birthday on Sat. :)

  9. Speaking of the atmosphere, did I really hear they played "Sweet Caroline" by Neil Diamond, and the crowd chanted along with it? I almost puked. I don't know where that started but it makes me think of St. Cloud and Mankato and please, can't we do something a little more unique?

    Barf.

I totally agree!! What's worse, is that it's the damn Boston song (Boston College/Boston University) and as someone who went to some of the more recent Frozen Fours, (especially Milwaukee!) I also have a puking reaction to the song. It definitely should be banned from the Ralph PERMANENTLY!!!

And too bad a Hoogsteen doesn't play for us anymore . . . "Hoogsteen Phooey, #1 Super Guy" was the best ever. The Mickey Mouse chant definitely needs to be brought back as well. (Yes, I remember all the words!) :)

  10. What???!! There was a game after the BSU game? I'm shocked. I was totally in "college hockey season is over . . . it's Rum and Diets, and movie night." And that's only cuz I watched the BSU regional championship game w/ Lane Sedivie and James Mason (James Mason lost the bet and had to wear Lane's BSU jersey when they went to the Frozen Four . . . it probably jinxed 'em. I'm kidding. they're both good guys. Didn't see 'em on TV cuz BSU never really got ahead in that one.) ???

Anyway, they made me feel better about the Sioux losing on that Regional Sunday night. . . we should roll over backwards and get 'em into the WCHA, but I don't see our "fearless leader" cooperating. Sedivie had a full ride to UND as a Goalie (Awesome!) but got run into in the minors by his own defenseman and RYAN POLTOLNY (I know I spelled that wrong!). Hurt his neck. Sembidia came in then and he lost his spot. Good guy, bad break. Anyway, don't care about Boston. . . college, university, or otherwise. . . they all suck. And the season's over. Hit the booze for 24 and get over it. :)

  11. If this passes by a convincing margin it will certainly increase the pressure on Standing Rock to put it to a vote. Should they continue to resist putting it to a vote and the nickname goes, there will be one person that is solely responsible. Ron His Horse is Thunder can take all the credit for the name going away...he should be fine with this as that is what he has wanted for a long time.

He wasn't an anti-Sioux guy until Gipp "educated" him. . . so I'd put Gipp (he President of UTTC) up there on your list too.

  12. For the first time ever at a Final Five third place game I began to wonder about the wisdom of the third place game in some situations. Yes, it is possible for that game to help a bubble team. But yesterday it was a team with a lock into the NCAA against a team virtually locked out of the NCAA. Wisconsin literally had free license to take liberties, play cheap, get even for past perceived injustices, etc. After seeing Watkins get hurt on a stupid penalty Friday night I was concerned the Sioux could get someone else hurt or a game DQ. A couple of examples - Two WI players jumping Finley simultaneously, Geoffrion playing the goon and cheap shotting Sioux players. I was actually more concerned about that than the Sioux play most of the time.

As for the Sioux, I did see some things I did not like. Kozek dogging it to the bench on a line change, leading to a WI 5 on 4 situation for a few seconds. About halfway to the bench he realized he needed to pick it up, but by then it was too late. There were other instances I observed where I thought 100% wasn't being given. That needs to be changed by next weekend.

The best new license plate that I saw on the way home from the Final Five - North Dakota plate "5 4RUFN" Now that is a hockey fan.

That was us. Have to say I stole it from a Minnesota Sioux fan in College years ago.

  13. I watched the replay again this morning and his ankle was obviously seriously broken. I am sure he spent the evening in the care of an orthopedic surgeon. Given the spot where his leg was bent the wrong way I doubt there is anything other than broken bones. From my experience this is probably a 4-6 month injury assuming the bone broke and not shattered. Hopefully he can be back on the ice to start the 09-10 season.

On a more positive note. . . last year I had a kid slide into third on my softball team and her ankle was turned 45 degrees the wrong way. Looked really bad. Anyway, she didn't break a bone. (Something out the ankle spinning on that little heal bone). But I think that was almost worse. Cuz then you're dealing w/ ligaments and those don't seem to heal up right or as fast as bones. But this one looked pretty bad too. The replay looked more like a buckle and that he broke it pretty good. Just good to note that sometimes things look a lot worse than they turn out to be and I definitely hope that's the case here! Hope he gets well soon! ;)

  14. We are going to hold off on that campaign.

ABBA would be waaay better than that stupid Boston song they keep playing all the time, "Sweet Caroline". It just brings back nightmares from Black Thursday and the Frozen Four last year and the BC band playin' it all the time. I really hate those guys. I wish Sheppard wouldn't have let 'em win the whole thing. I bought a lot of devastated Notre Dame fans beer cuz he couldn't tell the difference between North Dakota and Notre Dame.
