  1. First off, scoring 16G and 20A in your freshman year is a hell of a lot better than a decent year. Secondly, I think Toews came in with a lot more fanfare than either Lee or Oshie.

Lastly, your point of Duncan playing on the DOT line and then with Oshie this year being the reason for his numbers I can agree with but what are the coaches suppose to do only put 4 guys on the ice when Oshie and Toews are out there. No they need to find someone who can gel with them and put the puck in the net and Duncan was the ideal fit for the situation. Case in point, should we take away the NHL Hall-of-Fame or diminish any of Jari Kurri's accomplishments just because he was able to play with Gretzky the majority of his career?

Kevin Maxwell 82 (All-time leading Freshman pt total)

    Zach Parise 61

Cary Eades 50 (same year as Maxwell)

    Brady Murray 46

    T.J. Oshie 45

    Ryan Bayda 40

    Jonathan Toews 39

    Travis Zajac 39

Not to mention the the guys between Maxwell and Parise and also down to Eades roundings out a group of 3 with 50 goals.

  2. No "M-man" at the UofM, no more. How does that sit with Gopher fans?

Hastings was a good defenseman in his own right. Now he is going to be coaching the defense at the U....I see no problem with this hire. That and considering the good defenseman that have come from Omaha to the Gophers, I have no concern. Lucia, Hill and Hastings will be a heck of a coaching trio.

  3. I think in order for Duncan to get NHL offers he needs to have a season like last year if not better. He had an decent freshman year, scoring 36pts (16G, 20A), considering the youthful team back then. His Soph. year was his highlight year with 57pts (31G, 26A) and then last year with 40pts (18G, 22A). That gives him 132 pts in 133 games, which is a ppg at .99. I think next year will be his "prove it" year because he came in with very little fanfare, thanks to Oshie and Lee. Not hating on them but they were the ones with expectations to meet and Duncan just slid in. Duncan was part of the great DOT line, well then it turned into the DO line with Toews leaving, and now he has neither Oshie or Toews. So I think this season will speak alot to how good Duncan is.

I have to agree with what was said earlier about hanging the "C" on him. I still believe that he was the benifactor of playing with Oshie and Toews, to go with what was said earlier who's going to create for him cause he can't create for himself

  4. Flame me at will, but I'll take Lucia 8 days a week and 4 times on Sunday before I'd take McHale in the same capacity (talking recruiting/GMing). Lucia can coach, even if he has a bad year every now and then. McHale... has he done one good thing at all as GM of the T-pu$$ies?

Oh wait... he has. He became Taylor's best friend (aka, the Matt Millen school of General Managing). You don't have to do well if the owner thinks you are the best thing since the invention of toilet paper.

I agree I would take Lucia. But do give credit where it is due with regards to Guentzel. As Lou Nanne said on KFAN, Guentzel needs to get credit for what he has done in the ways of recruiting for the Gophers. Guentzel was also a canidate for the Gopher Head Coaching job when Woog left, but in the end the job going to Lucia.

I would think that Lucia will stick close to the reported target date he set, of June 1st. So hopefully this weekend or early next week Guentzel's replacement should be named.

As for wondering about McHale and if he did one good thing for the T-puppies.........does getting KG or Stephon Marbury count? :D

  5. It has been a long time since our last national championship.......

    Consider this:

the last time Boston College won a National Championship a WCHA Team won the National Championship....that being Minnesota in 2002 after BC won it in 2001

and prior to the OFFICIAL set-up of what would be the WCHA, 1951 as the MCHL till 53 when it became the WIHL and then in 1959 it was changed to the WCHA, in 1950 Colorado College won the National Championship after BC won it in 1949.

  6. really? thats going to be your argument, of all of the ones you goofies choose to use??? didn't mchale win NUMEROUS titles with the celtics? im not a bball fan, but i know he won a few. as for the twolves, they just plain suck :D

Mchale did win with the Celtics but only as a player. I would think the focus would be on the coaching/exec. role of McHale cause at least that would be comparing the same thing rather than Lucia as a coach and McHale as a player.

  7. 16 Ryan Duncan F SO | 43GP 31G 26A 57PTS. 1.3PPG

    16 Ryan Duncan F JR | 43GP 18G 22A 40PTS. 0.9PPG

#1 reason he (atleast to me) wasn't a risk to leave. You drop 17pts going from a So. to Jr. Not to mention 13 less goals. A lot of people said after Toews left that Duncan's numbers would suffer and they did. The DOT line was a great line. Duncan and Toews especially working together to get the numbers they did. Toews from what I watched of the Sioux games was more of the set-up man for Duncan and Oshie. He got the puck to them and they buried it. Like I said before Duncan aint a bad player, I just didn't consider him a risk to leave given his production drop without Toews there.

However, if the Chicago Blackhawks were smart they would draft Duncan this year or pick him up after next year on a free agent contract. Thus reuniting him with Toews and they could be just as effect in the NHL as they were in the college.

  8. Yes, everyone listen to the newb!! He (or she, whatever) must be right! :D:D

Just cause I am a newbie doesn't mean that I don't know what I am talking about. just reading some of the posts from some people in here.......very little knowledge of what they are talking about.

Theo Fluery was one of the smallest players to play in the NHL at 5'6" and about 180lbs. Duncan is the same height but is 20lbs lighter. Nathan Gerbe is also a short guy standing only 5'5" but he is a very quick player and can be physical. Duncan is physical but he lacks speed.

    Hockey fact:

The smallest player to play in the NHL was Roy Worters who was a goalie in the 1920's and 30's standing only 5'3".

  9. Not really sure why everyone is SO SHOCKED he came back......he was UNDRAFTED. But next year hasn't started yet......so still time for him to leave....money does talk.

  10. So what do you think, is all well in gopherville. Or are you saying that there are no good gopher alumni who are qualified to be part of the coaching staff. And the firing of the most popular and only gopher alumni is a sign of things finally turning in the right direction for a program that is NOT imploding.

Who says that the person to replace Guentzel has to be a Gopher Alumni. Sure it would be nice to have a "M" guy behiend the bench.....but that (if you read the description for the job at www.umn.edu) is not required. There are many qualified people to take over as asst. coach no matter their alma mater.

As for saying that Guentzel was fired......well thats the assumption made by people. TECHNICALLY it will go down as a Resignation. Now I know that sometimes coaches resign but behiend the scenes they were given the options of A) resign or B) get fired. Most take the resignation rather that gettting fired for a few reasons.

#1 - It looks better for the University to have some one resign rather than getting fired.

#2 - It looks better on a resume to have resigned from your position than to get canned.
