  1. If it happened to your wife/sister/mom I bet you wouldn't feel the same way, would you? But of course your not a woman (not physically anyways), nor are you Sioux......so I guess you wouldn't.....no, you COULDN'T understand.

Back in the early 90's there was this incident in the Navy, called "Tailhook". All but a handful of women came forward, telling the world what happened to them. The women who didn't come forward didn't want to "cause waves", and didn't want to potentially damage their careers. They wanted to just "be one of the guys". But they won their case. And we will to.

    GK,

Learn to spell and use correct grammar. I believe you meant "you're" not a woman. Or were you referencing the not a woman that PCM possesses? Also, and we will "too" my friend, not to. I assume you meant you also will win your (notice the correct usage of this word here) case.

Hopefully you don't mind a little constructive (not hostile or offensive) criticism, but I can't stand reading your massacre of the English language from post to lunatic post.

  2. I must admit I was silently cheering for both the Bison and Jacks yesterday, and I would like to see the Bison take Montana State. NDSU has definately started to make it's mark on DI football. A win over MSU this next weekend would also be very impressive.

10,681 and 14,368 are good attendance numbers for both of the NoDak schools. I expect both school's numbers to continue to rise throughout the season.

Go Dakotas... (except USD :D )

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I'm with you Dan. I grew up in and currently live in Fargo, and while I'm a UND alumnus and huge Sioux fan, I like to see NDSU win whenever they're not playing the Sioux. Especically now that we're in different divisions, it's great to see the North Dakota schools doing as well as they are. I went to the NDSU game Saturday, and like UND, they're looking great this year. Hopefully the day will come when they're playing each other again, but meanwhile go NoDak schools (SDSU too I guess).

  3. The funny part is that NDSU fans are too ignorant to realize UND is sitting back and letting them be the test dummies, which they are very good at.  UND couldn't have asked for more than Fargo testing the waters first.  UND has their own little lab experiment just down I-29.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Those "test dummies" are doing pretty well. I wish we were as "ignorant" and realized we should move up sooner rather than later. DII is going to be an absolute joke before you know it (it's already on it's way). MSU-Moorhead has made the move to DII, and now Mary and the Dac-10 teams are coming. Let's get out while the getting is good.

NDSU had some vision for the future, and I applaud them. Are you so blinded by your dislike for them that you don't see that? Compare our football schedule to NDSU's, it night and day, and not in UND's favor.

  4. If you like farming or being a door mat for D-I athletics go to NDSU.

    Anything else, UND.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Well that "door mat" just hammered the 11th ranked team in DI-AA on the road (that school's first non-conference loss in 11 years), and we beat up on mighty Winona State. I hope UND has the good sense to make the move up soon.

  5. I've seen a hockey game.  Your telling me that the Goalie's mask isn't made to look like an Indian?  yeah right.  But what we say doesn't matter, the SIOUX Nation has spoken.  All we can do is hang on for the ride,  It should be a pretty awesome ride, little bumpy, but we weren't called the FIGHTING SIOUX for nothing.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

"Weren't" called the Fighting Sioux? Last I checked we still are, and after hearing Phil Harmeson on the radio this morning, I'm more convinced than ever that we will be for years to come.

  6. MinnesotaNorthStar you beat me to my point. Why wasn't Notre Dame on the list of "offensive" nicknames. Not only that, but unlike most of the teams on the list, Notre Dame uses not only the nickname, but a mascot as well.

Notre Dame uses an ethnic group for a nickname, including a caricature of a surly looking Irishman. I'm also part French, and several of my people from the old country settled in Louisiana when they came to this country, where the University of Louisiana-Lafayette boasts the Ragin' Cajuns nickname (can an entire ethnic group possibly be ragin').

I for one fail to see how the nicknames (and mascot in one case) of these institutions is any less offensive than Native American nicknames used in the same way. Perhaps if I were to start a campaign to hassle the administration in South Bend and Lafayette I could get them to drop those names, as I imagine I can't possibly be the only person in this country of French-Irish extraction that lies awake nights concerned about this blatant attempt to belittle my heritage. Somehow, I suspect such a movement would fail before it ever got started.

For those of you reading this post and disagreeing, I ask that before you simply dismiss my query and attack me verbally, please explain the difference to me. I respect your right to your views, and would be extremely interested in any thoughts you may have regarding how these schools were omitted from this list.

  7. What makes people think Roger Maris didn't take steroids?

Someone can correct me but around that time steroids, I don't believe, were illegal or outlawed in Baseball, or the country, and many people found it be a wonderful drug with little or no side effects.....sorta like Cigarettes at the time.  :D

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Are you serious? Have you ever seen Roger Maris, he most certainly was not on steroids.

  8. Congratulations from this Gopher Fan.  No sugarcoating this one as it was clear from the outset who wanted to win this game.  That the Gophers even scored is really due to the dive by Gino Guyer (very Robbie Earl like, I'd give it a 9.5) and the loss of composure by Canady (I believe) and Prpich.  Other than that it was game, set ,and match pretty much throughout.  Props to another good performance by Jordan Parise.  North Dakota now has the chance to ride his success and the the teams inspired play since the Robbie Bina incident all the way to a National Title.  That this comes against Denver makes it all that much better.

Best of Luck against Denver on Saturday, Make it number 8

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Thanks for the post, and I have a lot of respect for what you said.

Honestly, I'd be lying if I said I would have been cheering for the Gophers had they won, but you were very classy about the game. I was actually reading Gopher Puck Live, and read all the anti-"Sue" talk and was even more happy about the win, so reading a post like this from a Gopher fan was refreshing.

  9. But Belfour did offer a security guard a million dollars to let him go.   Plus, Belfour made a clip saying that he hoped UND would open up a can of whoop a$$ on the Gophers.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Actually, it was a billion dollars he offered him, which made it all the more funny.

  10. Who would have believed the Sioux would be in Columbus even a month ago, congratulations to Dave Hakstol and the whole team. Tonight was especially sweet beating big-mouth Jerry York.

I'm curious how everyone feels about the Minnesota-Cornell game tomorrow. As a Red Sox fan, I was torn whether I wanted the Yankees or Twins to win last year's first round series, because while beating NY on the way to the World Series last year was great, losing to them would have been doubly hard to swallow. So, along those lines, who does everyone want to play in the first game of the Frozen Four?

While I'd LOVE to beat the Gophers, losing to them would be a tough way to end the season. Who does everyone else want to face off against?

  11. I long for the day when Minnesota goes into the big ten conferance for Hockey.  Lets see how well your WCHA tourney draws then :0

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

A five team conference? Should be great.

  12. I know in the past the so-called Minnesota rule allowed Minnesota to play the Friday night game in the Final Five since it's in the Twin Cities EVERY year.

During Saturday night's game Hennesy said he thought that rule was over, and that the winner of the play-in game would play Denver Friday night. However, I just checked USCHO, and it shows that the winner of the play-in game plays Friday at 2:30. Anyone know which it is for sure?

Incidentally, while I won't be surprised if Minnesota gets the night game, it is really a joke. Not only do the Gophers never have to travel at this time of year, but they have special provisions such as this one. The WCHA might as well just name "the U" conference champions at the start of every season, and let the other, lesser schools play for second. Really, what does a team like Denver play for all season, and what does winning the conference regular season title really mean? Maybe I think this is a bigger deal than it really is, but it gets old seeing the Gophers have every little advantage or special rule in their favor year in, year out.

  13. Lets not rush to judgment, i've gotten plenty of dui's in my day.  He was arrested on being under the suspicion of driving under the influence.  Thats an easy one to get out of.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Good for you big guy, you should be proud of yourself.

  14. I was shocked at the way Duluth played against MSU-Moorhead, who is absolutely terrible. I think this week's score will be comparable to the Ferris State game. The Sioux should win by no less than five touchdowns.

  15. Hey bigmrg74,

Why are you always on here talking about GVSU? Are you that hard up for something to do?

Go "represent" this mythical rivalry elsewhere. I realize that UND and GVSU have played for the National Championship twice in three years, but they're not rivals. Generally rivals schedule each other during the regular season, and are therefore guaranteed to play each other every year.

Good lord man, get a hobby. And for Sioux fans, let's face it, regardless of why they Sioux-Bison series ended, or who we want to blame, we're NOT ever going to replace them as a rival. I remember the discussions after the UND-NDAC series officially ended, and all the talk of picking our new rival. Sorry, but it doesn't work that way. Just like NDSU-SDSU is a fabricated rivalry (highway mile markers aside). If NDSU-SDSU or UND-USD weren't big rivalries before, they don't suddenly take on that distinction because real rivalries ended.

  16. HEY, it's all about the AL, and if you haven't seen it, it is worth the while to travel up to GF and see it. No matter what you read about it, it is the nicest DII football stadium ever (even whith the far-blow dome). Once UND gets their SIOUX TRADITION area in there, it is going to be one of the nicest college stadiums ever!!!!!!!!!!!

Are you serious? The Alerus sucks, and I miss the days of watching games OUTDOORS at Memorial Stadium. Also, while I'm not a huge fan of the FargoDome either, it's much nicer than the Alerus, which is only slightly nicer than the Dakota Dome in Vermillion. I don't want to be negative, but get real.

  17. I haven't heard anyone mention this, but I've thought from day one that Toby Kvalevog would be a possible candidate for the assistant job. While I realize this may be a stretch, he is as old as Kallay, has UND ties, has been coaching at goalie camps since leaving UND, and would finally solve the problem of UND not having a full-time goalie coach.

Like I said, this is by no means a prediction this would/will happen, but it's a name that came to me right after Blais announced he was leaving.

  18. With the support they enjoy in Bismarck, Mary would be able to fund all the scholarships. Mary could be a tough competitor with solid attendance figures.

I can only hope you say this in jest. Division II is in serious trouble when the likes of the University of Mary contemplate a move to its ranks.

I was perfectly fine with UND staying put when NDSU left, but if more of these types of schools move into Division II and continue to water down the quality (and I fear continue to cut scholarships), UND has to look at a move a la NDSU. I for one just hope (and I assume this is the case) that the university has some sort of committee looking into what a move up would entail.

  19. Are you serious? They must have some big time players coming in from out of town that nobody knows about because the senior class last year was the only reason they came even close to making state. They have very little coming back.

No, I wasn't serious. As a Shanley alum I'm just happy that we finally have our own team again. The period between 1990 and two years ago (joint teams with Wahpeton and later West Fargo) sucked.

To me, for a school of 250 to knock off Red River in the Regionals last year (before losing the next two games in OT to be knocked out) was a huge moral victory. I just hope the Deacons can start being consistently respectable.
