  1. They're good, but not as good as they think they are. If the two teams were to play it would be anybody's ballgame. If they played 10 times I would expect them to each win 5. But the fact of the matter is they aren't on our schedule and we shouldn't even waste our breath talking about them. They're insignificant to the status of our football team. Until they conjure up the courage to play us again we shouldn't give them the attention they so desperately crave.

    DaveK,

You write the worst posts on this entire board. You hate NDSU, we all get it. If they played this year, the Bison would DESTROY UND. I'm a Sioux fan, and would be pulling for the Sioux all the way, but I'm also a realist.

NDSU had the balls to make the move up a few years ago when DII was going to hell, and UND didn't have the guts. Everyone in GF mocked and ridiculed them, and now the Sioux are making the move too. I only hope UND has half of the success NDSU football and basketball has had since the move.

Also, UND stopped the series, not NDSU. What do you mean NDSU needs to "conjure up the courage to play us again"?

And before everyone starts in on me, I am a UND alum and Sioux fan. I'm not however blind to reality as so many Sioux fans on this board.

  2. I'm posting this in the hopes of someone helping me find a Sioux souvenir I've been looking for since I started at UND in the mid-90's.

The item in question is a framed black plaque with the intertwined ND, school seal and the logo in copper. Through the years I have seen them in various businesses and homes of UND alums in Fargo and Grand Forks. Yesterday I saw one in the office of an insurance agent in Fargo, who told me he doesn't think they're made anymore. If you aren't sure of what I'm talking about, I know there is one hanging in the US Bank branch on Columbia Road in Grand Forks.

If anyone knows where I could find one of these, I'd love to know. If you could post here or send me a private message letting me know how to get a hold of you, I would appreciate it.

  3. The true reason why ndsu doesn't want this game lies in the fact that there is a strong possibility that the Sioux would win. NDSU's perceived rise in athletics over the last few years has come from claiming superiority over UND and without a game between the schools UND had no chance to refute those claims. If anything bison fans, coaches, and administrators should be thanking RT for choosing not to play as it no doubt saved a few of their careers by not having to endure a butt-kicking at the hands of the Sioux while they were transitioning (ex Amy Ruley). Not playing the bison aided their transition and robbed some excellent Sioux teams of the opportunity to beat the bison like so many teams before them. Taylor knows this and isn't too keen to put ndsu's faux success over the past few years to the test by playing the Sioux, even if it means looking like a whiny, chickensh*t little b**** in public.

Faux success? Just because we're Sioux fans doesn't mean we have to belittle NDSU. They had balls enough to move up when UND didn't, and now we're following their lead. Beating Wisconsin and Marquette in basketball and going 10-1 in football with a win over I-A Ball State and a one-point loss to Minnesota is not "faux" success.

Anyone with any common sense knows NDSU moved up when they should have, and has/will have a competitive advantage over UND for a few years.

And while I'll be pulling for UND when they do play NDSU again, right now the Bison would kill them.

  4. While I understand the whole "getting penalized for playing a transition school" argument that NDSU is using, I really would appreciate both sides to just quit bitching about the "he said this" and "you said that" crap of the past! WE ARE TALKING ABOUT ONE OF THE LONGEST AND GREATEST RIVALRIES IN ALL OF COLLEGE SPORTS HERE!!! LET'S DO WHAT WE NEED TO DO TO GET THIS RIVALRY GOING AGAIN!!!

Oh, and YES, UND SHOULD play in Fargo to re-start this all. After all, the Sioux football team is undefeated in the "SIOUX" Dome.

"Sioux Dome" or not, NDSU would kill UND right now. I saw both teams play multiple times this past year, and I don't think it would even be close.

  5. Actually the Bruins have him skating with PJ Axelson and Marc Savard, so I am not sure I would call that the thirdline.

Actually the Bruins broadcasters said Dave Lewis has said he'll be on the third line and will have to earn a spot.

The reason he was with Axelsson and Savard was because Glen Murray was out with an injury.

  6. As a Sioux and Bruins fan, it was great to see Brandon Bochenski donning the spoked B and getting a goal in Boston's 3-2 win tonight.

The team said he'll be a third line player that has to earn a spot, but he was on the first line tonight with Glen Murray out with an injury.

    Nice work Bo.

  7. NDSU didn't prove anything, Minnesota proved that they no longer belong in the Big 10. They really should be ashamed of themselves. The Gophers would have been beaten by a lot of top D2 teams they way they played yesterday. I figured they would be slightly down this year, but never in my worst nightmares did I think they would fall so far so fast. Pathetic!!! ???

  8. You are completely wrong, DaveK.

The intent is as exactly as has been stated repeatedly. It is to end confusion, primarily among ignorant journalists, that institutions that are currently labeled DI-AA are DI institutions as are our DI-AAA and DI-A brethren.

No one is going to confuse schools like NDSU and New Hampshire and conferences like the Big Sky and Gateway with Oklahoma, USC, the Big Ten, and the SEC.

It is quite annoying when schools are incorrectly labeled as DIAA schools when in the context the football subclassification should not be used.

    There is no ulterior motive.

DaveK is ALMOST ALWAYS completely wrong IowaBison.

  9. I don't know why any North Dakotan wouldn't want NDSU to win this game. I'm a UND alumnus and fan, but I would love to see NDSU put up a good showing against the Gophers.

I have the utmost respect for what NDSU has done since making the move up, and only hope we can come close to what they've done.

  10. I don't get it. If someone asks a legitimate question about UND HOCKEY that may have been asked in a different thread, 10 people jump all over him. Yet when certain people talk about Rutgers football, basketball, cross country, swimming, intramural broomball, etc. we're all supposed to love it. Now it's Arizona State basketball and ATL gets blasted for bringing that up. You can't have it both ways fellas.

  11. I'm as big a Sioux fan as they come and I can't stand the Bison, but the article by Foss was a piece of crap and made UND fans sound like jealous whiners. Personally I'd much rather watch a D-I basketball or a Sioux basketball game for that matter than a Sioux hockey game. Nothing against hockey but that's just what I find more enjoyable. The other fact is that the Bison win over Wisconsin got more media attention on that day then any of our hockey titles. I'm not saying that it should have, but almost 2/3's of the country could care less about hockey.

Amen. I'm a huge Sioux fan, but all of this talk from UND fans trying to trivialize what the NDSU basketball team did is just sad. Old Virg sounds like a jerk in this article, and by extension makes UND fans look like jealous whiners as dlsiouxfan said.

When UND moves up (hopefully soon), I imagine all of the nay-sayers that like making fun of NDSU will suddenly think the move is the greatest thing ever. If the Sioux men had beaten Wisconsin in basketball, would Virg have pointed out that hockey has been DI for 60 years and the basketball win was no big deal? I think not.

UND has plenty to be proud of, but if I was a Bison fan, I'd get a huge kick out of Sioux fans constantly referencing the Bison. Let's face it, they didn't "run away from UND" as some fans on here would have you believe. They made the right decision for them, and one UND should and probably will make soon. For a school we don't care about, we seem to be interested in every move they make.

  12. Come on people, Furman is a DI team. At least NDSU isn't losing to Mayville and Minot State.

The Bison had the balls to move up and to date, UND hasn't. Apparently we're content in the VERY watered down ranks of DII.

  13. You never hear much about the bouncey-ball teams at Maine and New Hampshire, do you? I realize NDSU fans like it, but that's because they don't have a real cold weather winter sport to follow. They don't know any better. Considering that the FM area has five varsity high school hockey teams, it's a travesty that the local college doesn't have a team. So... the die-hards have to settle for the southerners' winter sport of choice. It's quite sad and pathetic, really.

Personally, if NDSU were to ever play hockey against Wisconsin (regardless of the outcome)... that would impress me a lot more than beating them in bouncey-ball. If and when that happens, I will respect NDSU. Till then, they aren't worthy of my respect.

    Dave,

You're a moron. Go ahead and make an ass of yourself, but please don't speak for this or other Sioux fans.

  14. Man, you should have heard TH and crew rip into the UM fans, who were throwing things at the Sioux at the end of the game. And, of course, Campion called no delay penalty.

"Bush league fans" is their exact consensius, not mine.

Good character comeback tonight for UND. This is what we expected the whole weekend. The whole year, year after year, for that matter.

The Sioux broadcasters hit it on the head, Minnesota has THE worst fans in the WCHA. Go to any other rink in the conference, and you'll hear the same thing. Duluth has really classy fans that treat you great, even if you are a fan of the road team, and I think they may hate the "U" more Sioux fans do.

Way to go for the officials too, not calling a delay of game penalty on those no-class clowns.

Anyway, huge win for UND, and Duluth is losing too. While the Sioux need to keep moving up in the standings, a little cushion in fifth place is definitely nice. Let's hope they can build on this win and come out strong down the stretch.

  15. I read at the start of the year that the Fighting Sioux Sports Network was airing the games at Duluth and Anchorage this year, but it's not on in Fargo. Anybody know whether this series is on?
