  1. He never actually mentioned the year, he just said that Southeastern Louisiana was returning the game.

If your AD is saying it's a done deal I believe it...just haven't heard anything on this end, and usually I would...I hope we do return the trip at some point because I feel it would be a great experience for our program.

  2. I just watched Sioux Sports Extra online and AD Faison stated that UND and SELA is a home and home.

Unless there's been an agreement recently for a return game beyond '09, I don't think that's correct.

  3. Now why would you say something as moronic as that? I love the hockey team as much as the next guy, but for crying out loud, what would be so wrong with the football team surpassing the hockey team. I don't think it would make one bit of difference, but to say that the football team has a "proper place in the pecking order" is wrong. If the football team someday is the premier program on campus it won't be a problem with me.

No offense meant, but I get a chuckle when I read comments about football taking a backseat to hockey...not because there's anything wrong with that in your part of the country, but I bet you could randomly ask 1000 people around here what icing is and 100% would tell you it's what goes on top of a cake...in my 30 years of living in Louisiana, I can't recall once ever seeing a hockey score or highlight on the local news, other than when the ECHL had a couple of teams in the area...and even then it was novelty and most people went for the fights.

  4. I have a feeling this game is going to be similar to when we used to play UMD or Mankato when they had the pass-on-every-down offenses. SE Louisiana threw for 377 yards against FBS Louisiana Tech today. They haven't been able to put up much in the way of rushing yards so far, UND is tough against the run, and the Sioux obviously struggled in the second half to stop the pass against Idaho St. Plus, the health of our starting corners is questionable. So all things point to passing, passing and more passing by SE Louisiana. The good news is that if USD could come within a few feet of winning there, and the Coyotes have struggled to come away with road wins against anybody the past several years, we should at least have a decent shot of coming away with a win. I definitely expect this to be the toughest test of the year so far.

Just got back from our game with La Tech...outplayed them most of the night...we had 300 yards of offense in the first half alone...didn't have the ball much in the 2nd half but still moved it when we had it...essentially got beat on special teams and back to back fumbles to start second half...they had a punt return and blocked FG return for TDs...they scored 10 points off turnovers to start the third quarter...we moved it almost at will through the air...ran it well too but just didn't run it much...defense played well but gave up some big plays...very physical game...slobberknockers all over the place...no serious injuries but we're banged up...so is La Tech.

Look forward to hosting the Sioux next week...should be a good one.

  5. Thankfully altitude is not a problem in Louisiana. ;)

Yeah but we have humidity...hasn't been bad the last couple of days though...never know what it'll be like next weekend...

Watched most of the game...nice win by the Sioux...first, we have La Tech Saturday, but look forward to hosting you guys next weekend...have a safe trip down.

  6. No offense intended, but there's a perception out there, fueled in part by some of the media covering NDSU, that once you get outside the top 25, there's not a lot of good FCS teams. Whether that's real or just perception remains to be seen. The early FCS success of an NCC (our old dII conference) also-ran like SDSU also seems to support that notion. Again, no offense intended--it's just my opinion that the strongest dII programs, of which UND was one, can compete quite favorably with most of FCS. My opinion, until proven otherwise, is that UND can play with, and beat, any unranked FCS teams, and probably some ranked ones (see 2006 vs. Northern Iowa, or 2003 NDSU vs. Montana as examples, and NDSU didn't even make the dII playoffs that year).

No offense taken, but I can tell you flat out, that perception is B.S...not saying there are bunches of unranked teams who could make a Chattanooga run were they to make the playoffs, but there are quite a few programs out there who are plenty talented enough to compete with, and/or beat, teams in the Top 25...just because they don't win enough games overall, and finish out of the mix, doesn't mean they aren't capable or dangerous.

I don't think there's any question that upper level D-IIs can compete favorably in FCS, but by the same token, I also think there are middle of the road FCS teams who can compete with upper tier D-IIs...it kinda goes both ways in that regard.

In our particular case, we're a young program that is building, and have had three very good recruiting classes in a row...we're still young and have some class balance issues, but we're very talented...in my opinion, we're a year away, but we're vastly improved over last couple of years.

Looking forward to our game in a couple of weeks...should be a good one in Strawberry Stadium!!!

  7. It seems as though perhaps USD doesn't have the same caliber of running back that they've had the past five years between Logan and Allen. I really thought they'd beat SE Louisiana. Barely losing would be much more acceptable had SE Louisiana actually been a ranked team, a la Northern Iowa last week. But losing to a team apparently nowhere near the top 25 seems like a big step backward from their performance against Northern Iowa. Obviously we'll get to see for ourselves what SE Louisiana is all about soon enough.

We're a lot better than you apparently think...should have won by at least a couple of TDs last night but had two TDs called back, including one that would have put us up by 21 with seven minutes to play...had 10 penalties overall which wiped out a lot of offense for us...the South Dakota QB made some big plays which kept them in it and was every bit as good as advertised...credit to them for hanging around and making it interesting late...they're a good offensive football team with a difference maker under center.

  8. I'll call it what I want to call it. I-AA is not D1 as far as I'm concerned, and I'm not in the minority nationwide.

You also have the right to believe or claim that 2+2=5, or that the sun rises in the west, but you would be factually incorrect...the same as you would be by saying FCS or I-AA is not D-I.

  9. I prefer to call it I-AA. FCS is just so cheesy and contrived, it reeks of inferiority complex.

Has nothing to do with inferiority complex. The impetus behind the change had more to do clearing up confusion between I-AA and D-II and some of the biggest proponents of the change were coaches of other sports, such as basketball and baseball. I can't count how many times we had basketball or baseball recruits say they were under the impression we were D-II because our football program was classified with two As. I'd much prefer something like I-B (Division I Bowl) and I-P (Division I Playoff) as opposed to FCS and FBS which is more confusing.

  10. Here's a link to some pics of Strawberry Stadium. It's small by FCS standards (7,500 permanent, just under 10,000 with temp bleachers in endzones) but an excellent place to watch a football game. The stands are steep and close to the field so you feel like you're right on top of the action. Pics are updated throughout the thread.

Press box/Club suite addition is coming along nicely...should be ready by the time USD comes to town on September 13, and will definitely be operational for when you guys visit two weeks later. Here's a link that shows the progress...

  11. For some of us, it's just a 100 or so miles west (unless I'm transferred this summer)!

With the Lion paws/tracks painted into the roadways leading to the campus, it was easy to find from I-12. Looked like your stadium is undergoing some refurbishment - adding suites and a new pressbox? The stadium was surrounded by campus buildings. I liked the potential atmosphere.

  12. Hello Sioux fans...there's a long hot summer to go, and then some, before you guys make your way south to play us on September 27th, but thought I'd start a thread to stir up some conversation as we pass the time away. I know this will be your first year as a member of

Division I but we have a great deal of respect for your program and realize we'll have to be at the top of our game to have a chance to win.

Not sure how much any of you know about our school, our program or where we're located but if anyone's bored, here are some links for those interested in learning more. Hopefully you guys will bring a good following and have a good time in south Lousiana. It'll still be Hurricane season in late September, but hopefully we don't have a repeat of 2005 or anything remotely close to it.

  13. In Florida, just over 200 miles.

Sounds like you're in the Pensacola area...a hop, skip and a jump from Hammond. I have several good friends who live there...we go to the beach there all the time.

  14. I know NDSU's games with Nicholls and Northwestern St in 2004 were the first game of a home/home.

Is there any reason to think that the games at SELA and McNeese aren't home/home?

In the case of Southeastern Louisiana, the answer is yes. It's a one game deal. Have no idea what McNeese is doing next year.

  15. I'm still hoping to see the Southeast Louisiana one pop up.

You guys are coming to Hammond, La. on September 27th. It's done deal as far as I know. And not to sound too nitpicky, but it's Southeastern Louisiana.

  16. slulionsfan,

Is it solid that the UND-SELU game is only a one game deal? SLC teams seem to like home-and-home deals. I can't imagine UND going all the way down there for nothing in return, and SELU doesn't seem like the type of school that would pay much of guarantee to a school like UND.

The info I got sounded pretty solid, but I'm not 100% certain.

  17. I came across this post on the McNeese St. board. It lists all of the "tentative" schedules for the Southland Conference teams so far.

It shows Southeastern Louisiana AT North Dakota on October 11. A poster later in the thread stated that UND would indeed be at SELU next year.

The game is definitely in Hammond next year.

  18. Geaux Sioux---

If they end up playing at SELA you and I will have to head up the tailgating committee for that game....I live near Biloxi and the drive over there can't be more than an hour or so.

Barring a change over the last couple of weeks, the game is definitely in Hammond from everything I was told. We have both UND and USD coming to our place.
