  1. Well, I heard on KFAN that the Panthers aren't pleased with his development because at times they didn't like that he wasn't used in his natural position, the center position and they put him on the wing for a while. But... I think he was back at center towards the end? Maybe a Gopher fan can verify this. THere was a prospect article apparently where they commented on this. I think that's why they aren't happy with his development at the U. But I think he'll stick around because he has the opportunity to play an increased role next year for the Gophers at center and I'm sure the Panthers would like to see how he does with more responsibilities. Again, I don't watch the Gophers enough to know how much playing time and responsiblities he had.

If you listen to the second hour of Beyond the Pond (KFAN), they talk about the Panthers not being happy that he was playing out of position/development.

  2. Not getting anything, I'm sure something is goofed up in my settings. Looks like FCS tonight.

It looks like it's on FCS Atlantic. I'm @ my parent's house and they have Dish Network. They don't show a FCS Atlantic channel. Does anyone have Dish Network and are you able to watch Sioux hockey on their sports package? Thanks!

  3. Not to mention the people with the bar seats at $1500 a seat would HATE being surrounded by students and that would clearly be the "student" Bar.

It does work best to have them where they are at. I think it is better if they can get at the goalie but the arena isn't designed for that.

Also St Cloud has their student on the end line sides that Huskies shoot at twice. The "suites" are behind the net in the wall.

Other places give the students the best seats.

I hate Duke but you can't deny the home court advantage. That's the way it used to be at the Old Ralph

  4. Sadly, I have to agree. I loved the Old Ralph and the opposing teams HATED it. I never missed a game after I got to college in 98 until the new arena. Heck, I was pissed when the Student Government ok'ed that students had to pick up tickets; none of those guys believed me that it'd lead to paying for tickets and eventually to assigned seats. When they moved to the new arena I actually stopped going about half way thru the season. It was so boring. New students I'm sure don't know the difference and think they're nuts. Just became way to corporatized and family-oriented. Half the fun of the Gophers series was waiting outside, doing a bonfire, ordering pizza or grilling by the arena and drinking. Now? forget that, you'll pry get arrested.

I graduated soon after the 1987 Championship......I also miss the old atmosphere. I know it will never happen but the student section should be right behind the goal that we shoot @ twice.

  5. There was a Ryan Jones that played for Miami who was pretty darn good, any relation there?

And speaking of Jones', Matt and Zach have a little bro who is probably still a ways off from the college level age-wise, but just something to think about in the future.

I believe Seth Jones is the son of Popeye Jones. Popeye is an ex-NBA player. ....no relation. Popeye was a rebounding machine and a scrappy player.

  6. His off-ice past could effect his consideration there is no doubt about that.

But there is the chance they might look at it from the perspective of a young man that saved himself from "the wrong path" by some serious dedication to his passion hockey.

I of course can't say what he was exactly doing before he left the team last year nor can I say for sure exactly what he did when he went home but we all know a few things for sure:

    1. That his problems before he left were alcohol related, suggesting he may have had a problem with alcohol which is a disease that takes tremendous determination to overcome.

    2. He was invited back on the team 1/2 season earlier than his suspension. According to the coaching staff this was because of what he had demonstrated as an impressive ethic to get himself right.

    3. When he came back he played on a different level, suggesting that number two above was very legit.

    4. He did not stay this summer while the rest of the team did. I can't say why, but I wonder as anyone with issues with alcohol would tell you, a key to staying out of trouble is avoiding the environments that can trigger it. (his issues last year were in the summer).

    5. Again, after the summer, he seems to be playing even on a different level than at the end of last season-It's a bit early to say that for sure but it is really looking that way so far..

So maybe if there is truth in what I ponder the Hobbey voters might just consider all of that in a positive way. Who knows??

The drinking age in Alberta is 18. It has to be tough being told you can't legally drink @ college.... I'm glad Matt is doing well. He'll be playing for Toronto soon if he keeps it up.

  7. Yes, the games will be shown on FSSN. The games are not produced by FSSN, but they are produced by Alaska Anchorage Student TV station and FSSN picks up the feed. The quality isn't great, but you get to watch the Sioux live from Alaska!! Go Sioux!

    Will they be on FCS?

  8. Just listened to the Pipeline Show......Rocco sounds like a stud. He said he is coming to NODAK and not going to Portland (WHL). He said his word is important and he won't back out. He did mention that he has been talking to Portland. His sister plays soccer @ Oklahoma St.
