  1. Is a New Mexico State game a possibility for Oct. 4 yet? They are still talking about in on NMSU's message board as one of the most likely to happen http://mbd.scoutnmsu message board.com/mb.aspx?s=242&f=2377&t=2908854

It may be in desparation for them to fill out their schedule for season ticket holders, but I think it would be really great to fill out our schedule this year and see how we stack up. Especially, with TT on the schedule next year.

  2. I think St. Cloud will be quite improved from last year. Tough start to the season losing in OT then facing UND for a team that would like to contend for a conference title in the new NSIC. They shouldn't be taken for granted and the game will have a good old fashioned NCC feel to it.

  3. I have heard from coaches that they would not hesitate to pull a redshirt on a guy this year if they thought he could help the team. Apparently they feel that this is an important year to start things in this transition off well. I tend to agree even though you do lose that player's best year of productivity, maturity, and leadership. Think if we had Dressler back this year, but then again he was a boost for the team his true freshman season.

  4. Let's all not forget that the Sioux also had a 12 game winning streak from 1953 to 1964 and hold 62-45-3 all time record (35-30 when the Nickel was on the line). Simply looking at some of those numbers would appear as UND would be historically be a better program sans the NDSU run in the 1980s and the opportunity to win d2 championships which weren't available previously (instead there was Camelia Bowl appearances etc.) The numbers are so interesting with this series (12 year runs, tight games) that it needs to be restarted soon. I'll stay out of this now.

  5. Fact is that UND essentially got all the best talent in the region, which probably couldn't have been said for a number of years. I think its the way to go to get this program rolling in the right direction again. You have to start in your backyard and work from there a la other successful UND programs (football, women's bball, hockey). I look forward to watching these players set the foundation for a successful transition.

  6. What kind of bs is that. What real benefit is there to being in this "conference" if you don't even play everyone. Clearly, this isn't really a long term deal as we (and really every team in this conference) will be looking for better options in the near future. So we probably should just have looked at trying to schedule these teams as independents for a couple of years rather than be tied down for 5 years in a quasi conference. Does anyone know what the stipulations of leaving early would be (ie. penalties). I do look forward to competitive games with these teams but am trying to look for benefits of being affliated with them if we don't even play.

  7. That is pretty ridiculous that a round robin could not be worked out in the small GWFC. I understand that it may Possibly hurt a team's playoff chances for next year which helps give credibility to the conference. However, what benefits are there of being in this conference that USD and we may be looking to leave anyway in a couple of short years. Might as well just schedule as independents. Poly and Davis can't being having an overabundance of game opportunities outside the conference. It's a good thing we are reportedly playing everyone.

  8. Anybody hear anything about the younger brother of David Wisthoff? They are from a small western ND town that probably doesn't get a lot of exposure. Dave was one heck of a player at fullback. I thought that I had heard his brother was a senior and maybe better.

  9. Most of this is a bit more long term than what is being discussed here (aka 5, 10, 15 + years down the road). Immediate facilities upgrades I have heard repeatedly about would be an indoor practice facilities (Grand Valley's will be nice) which I could see going up within about 2 years.

  10. I don't phrase it "small-time". I call it that Grand Forks is too "sure of what it can't do." If you'd have asked in 1996 about surviving a major flood I'm sure GF folks would have said "no can do". GF needs to start to show some confidence in itself. Maybe that starts with getting local media that isn't tied at the hip to Fargo-based organizations. Maybe that's getting some media and PR folks out there putting good stories onto fax machines every day (ala the other guys).

Dear Grand Forks: Quit whining about what you "can't" do. See how much you can. You have a heck of a track-record (flood recovery, Alerus, Ralph): Build On It.

    well stated
