Just paid a visit to GF, one of my few visits since leaving in '73.  Campus is great, Grand Forks city not so much.  So many potholes on University Ave and downtown; almost not navigable.  South Washington one continuous eyesore.  Alerus and The Ralph are tremendous.  The weather and the city are recruiting disadvantages compared to some other NCHC towns, especially Denver.

Fargo has the same weather as GF and there doing fine, Jobs that pay even GF can boom.

Heard this yesterday people reporters were asking to see the numberes of the sports budget cuts. Freedom of information we want to see the numbers. What I heard  was they were told the info was not available it was destroyed.

Is this correct anybody have anything on this?

Speaking from a Twin Cites point of view they’ve kicked our ass on marketing now for a good decade and a half.

They want to put NDSU on the map nationally. When they compare the 2 cities you know what they think. As long as the current group of power brokers in ND are in power the more NDSU will grow. UND will become as they say  have more of an internet presence.

If you include just full time students,

    NDSU: 11,768

    UND: 10,275

with part timers added in UND has about 50 more than NDSU.

NDSU had nearly 700 more beginning full time freshman than UND this year.

I think UND use to be the larger school by 1,500- 2,000 or so students "back in the day"?

700 more how long b4 its SU 20000 UND 9000? To the victor goes the spoils. They have all the power control the state and are going for it.

There isn't another college sports fan forum in the country like this one. This one is the Twilight Zone.

Holy melodrama, Batman!  Step away from the cliff.

TheFlop  says grab some more Kool-aid as the decimation of UND will now resume. What were President Kennedy's odds to get the UCF job? Pretty low I'd. guess.

With the Ralph holding a celebration for the Lamoureux  twins it was a great time for him to leave town. Why didn't Kennedy want to be there to honor GF's UND's and America's heroes? Dumb question.

You can understand why Kennedy was telling his superiors get me the heck out of here. I cut what you tell me. Help me out on this. So they came through and got him the intverview  at UCF. Let the decimation continue.

I am far from a Denialist and I don't like what has happened to UND's programs this season. But some of your scenarios are a bit too dystopian even for me. I don't think Grand Forks is on its way to depopulating to Fargo and turning "The Metro" into another Minneapolis. You make it sound that way sometimes and that is what rubs people the wrong way.

That being said, I appreciate the perspective you bring to this forum and you should have a place here.

When you question Conservitives motives on a Conservative web site in a Conservitive  state you get blow back. This has nothing to do with political ideology it has to with ethics.

if you gave truth serum to the group in Fargo and what there goals are. How close would I be to the truth. Maybe spot on.

Moser53 has his way of redirecting some of our attention from the two bouncy balls and the puck in these challenging times. I'd not pull or even tug on the leash yet, he definitely adds another dimension to this board. Keep in mind, these two balls & puck are soon to be put in the locker room and it's a long time before they bring out a ball for a kickoff!

Redirecting our attention is correct. Bingo. Think about Grand Sky, Fertilizer Plant, Drones then when it comes to UND they call themselves victims. Oil, Ag prices down create the Legacy Fund  and release the funds when the goals are met.

Be kind  of boring for me if I got banned. People on this board can continue and be an Ostrich and refuse to see the truth I won't.

UND is to NDSU as U Virginia is to Virginia Tech.

Wonder what became of Jesus, family, Rutgers.  2005 to 2018 what are the differences now. President Dean Bresciani heard him on the radio say for a school without a medical school there is a lot of medical research going on the campus of SU. Would bet more research on the campus of SU than UND. Joe Chapnan was given the OK by the Higher Ed Board to add any degree he wanted. Duplication not a problem for them. All b4 we got rich with oil $.

  10. U of M, U SD, ST. Cloud St, UM Duluth, Mankato St. All have a Communication  Program. NDSU  has Department of Communications 350 undergrads 50 grad students. Hammersmith couldn't wait to start this thread.  Kelley was there man and maybe more on campus    And they knew UND was going to take big hits to end 100 years  of frustration.  They were excited.

Ryan Cunningham on KNOX no liberal said this after moving her from Bsmarck. The power people not your average joe dislike UND and GF and it shows.

UND plans to dissolve School of Communication

No faculty or majors will be cut; they will be split up among different existing departments.

Thoughts? I'm not familiar enough with the SoC to know if this is a big deal or not. I know they've had issues in the past(very public ones), and it seems like the faculty and students feel the administrative stucture is too posioned to continue. There should be more info coming out tonight or in tomorrow's Herald.

edit: updated link to the expanded story

Hammersmith was right on top of this. The 2008 Higher Ed Board  guys in Fargo maybe let the cat out of the bag. Robert Kelley was hired July 1 2008. Communications School desolved September 2008. Many cuts to come In his time here.

The majors will be split up among different existing departments. Ten years later what's left of these majors? Anyone

It's a $60 million endowment to restore WIH. So, ... What are gold medals going for on eBay these days?

Talk is cheap; takes money to play hockey.

Goal post has moved. If 60 million was raised 80 would be the new 60.

Agree...Most athletic programs (mens and womens), outside of a select few, do not make money.

So how does Bemidji or St Clown afford women's programs and UND does not?  Playing/practicing in the REA is probably a big cost driver.  Just turning on the lights in there on a game day is big bucks.  Hiring people to run concessions and take tickets costs money.  Hell, the Gofer women don't play at Mariucci, they play at a much smaller Ridder Arena.  Bringing in Euro's to play versus local kids has to have more cost.  There had to be some more economical options for this program but they  were not deemed viable for one reason or another.  Losing roughly $2 million per year on this one program was just too much for UND to swallow.

So how does Bemidji and St  Cloud  Duluth pay the bills? How many sports do they have. Maybe a sportswriter in one of those towns can shed some light,

I think NDSU should start women’s hockey because UND dropped it.  It would be a great story for them and give them lots of publicity.  200 fans would absolutely love it.

Homer your in Fargo right?  You should have coffee with Dave  Piepkorn or Mike Williams.they can tell you the grand plan for FM. These 2 guys want to help take Fargo NDSU to the next level.i can respect there passion and love and drive to get there. But

I've been posting for a few years now that for them to get there part of the plan is to put NDSU on another level higher level than UND. Since 1999 everything I've seen points in that direction.and it hasn't been a fair fight.

To your post the question is when will SU  start D1 Mens and Women's hockey they could probably tell you. 201 fans with you. Ha

  15. How long B4 the NDSU  Club Women's Hockry program goes D1? And what really good well thought excuses are we going to read on here that it had nothing to do with UND cutting the Women's program.

If every college had to cut sports because of lack of buts in the seats. Athletic directors would be pulling there hair out looking for games.atleast on  the lower levels.

when NDSU went D1 SDSU followed for one reason being state pride. They said SD would be the only state not D1 so they said we'll find the $. Women's Hockey was state pride at UND.

ND GOP  is the party of choice of most on this site telling by the lack of questioning what has gone on with UND since 1999. Circle the wagons around our guys. Dems do it with Hillary and on this board with the GOP. What's the truth with all this stuff good question.i call it like I see it wrong or right.

Kennedy and Faison were just being nice to NDSU when they go FBS, as NDSU can now have WIH free and clear of any state competition.

D1 W. Hockey at SU what are the odds?  Legacy $ has to go somewhere.

Could the planning for a Monorail be a little over a bakers dozen years away, if oil is back to $100 a barrel along with $10 wheat and corn? The GF City's Alerius is paid for about the same time as UND inherits The Ralph. That could also be when the U's plans start for the improvements on Ray Richards?

UND inherits the Ralph? Trust the state with that building after watching how the state takes care of buildings on UNDs campus?   On this one I'm a conservative keep in the hands of the private sector. It's great when the tax payers pay all the bills for your pet project but when you don't control the  $ 500M  In deferred maintenance happens.

  18. If this isn't correct let us know. After a little checking this is the info I found. To much power in the hands, no checks and balances with the Higher Ed Board. Higher Ed Board is excempt  from the State Legislature and any laws they pass when it comes to ND College campus buildings. They close the door and pick  the winners and losers. And there tired of going to meetings and looking people in the eye. To solve that it has been proposed  maybe passed to meet thru teleconferenceis.  On the big votes.
