  1. Not true. When I arrived in Grand Forks in 1992, many people were already complaining about Wanless. Firing Gasparini probably didn't improve his standing any, but some of his decisions and policies were under fire before that happened.

And it's interesting that the example you say led to widespread disenchantment with Wanless turned out to be the correct decision at the time.

Wasn't their some tension between Engelstad and Wanless as well. I seem to remember Mr. Engelstad voicing his displeasure with Wanless.

  2. Well I remember when Finley used his size on a foolish Maine player and started dragging him around on the ice like he was a toy

The disclaimer to this play is that Big Joe did this after the whistle, rather than laying the smack down during live action. It was TJ that delivered the big hit that sent the Maine player over the boards and into our bench......a hit that we need to see Big Joe attempting to make.

  3. Hey nimrod What I am saying, people like you can't understand. So let me DUMB it down for you!! Lennon is staying !!!! That being said, can you understand we have a problem in the athl. office? People in the know don't need to be told this they know it. So you know, Montana's athletic dept is in as bad of shape as ours. That is out of a Montana Alum's mouth!!! We need to keep our good coaches and get rid of the PROBLEM!!!!!! Call The President 701-777-2121

Where can the rest of us get some of the crack you're smoking?;)

  4. I hope I am wrong.....But after watching the Open Forums, reading the news reports, scanning the message boards, and looking at their resumes. My feeling is Dale Lennon will be offered the Head Coaching position at Montana State Unversity.

Because of his mid-western attitute, presence, poise and polish, his age, and most of all his creditinals I find it very difficult for him not to be the leading canidate...

His record of achievments (UND FB academic GPA , Team Grad Rates and Team Win and Lost Records) accompany that with his track record for turning around a trouble program (Mary)... Is just what MSU needs right now.

And I believe if it is offered he will take it.

If this does happen at least Siouxsports.com will have something to talk about this Summer.....Who will be Next?

This would be a nice hire for Montana St. Lennon runs a very good program. I'd favor Bubba for the job is Lennon does indeed leave. Tibesar is up and coming, but I think Bubba is proven.

  5. We only put enough gas in our car to get to the better prices.

I have noticed that the M and H in Detroit Lakes often has the lowest gas prices in the area....often 5 to 10 cents a gallon cheaper than Fargo. Of course, I haven't been there in a few months, so I have no idea what it's been with this latest surge.

If you go through F-M to hit the lakes, always stop at Casey's in Dilworth or Mhd...they are the cheapest.....and take one of their pizzas to go.

  6. Anyone on the boards fish?

This 11lb. 4oz. walleye was caught this morning.....

Holy smokes....that's a big one. My biggest is 7 1/2 lbs out of LOW....where did you get this one?

    Great catch!!

  7. Hey.... do some research on Bochenski and let me know what you find out. IIRC, didn't he say he was staying until late in the summer when he changed his mind?

But then again, even if I'm wrong, far be it from me to take away from your vastly superior insight as to what is and what is not a dumb thread. :D

Wasn't Bochenski going to ineligible because of academics? Which would make his decision that much easier.....

  8. Care to clarify? You think it's "dumb" that he left for selfish reasons and you wanted him to stay, or you think it's "dumb" that he left because he won't fit in with the Blackhawks and the NHL and you think he needed 1 more year to develop and UND?

There was nothing selfish about Johnny's decision to leave. He's ready!! As for Duncs...he's a sniper. The kid doesn't miss his spots. Did he benefit from Johnny and TJ, sure he did. However, he didn't miss when given the opportunity. I think Vande steps in and holds his own on that line. He obviously won't do the things Johnny did, but I think Vandy is going to be a great player for the Sioux.

  9. No one is defensive, however, I do think your missing the point. There is this flawed logic out there that the EVIL government is reading emails and some how the are going to come knock down your door, and basically this perception that somehow the Bush Administration was the first one to do this. I am just saying its been happening for years. Clinton had a stack of FBI files on his poltical adversaries. First thing that comes to mind is:

First of all, you forgot to post a work cited page because all of your information was copied and pasted from Wikpedia (Do you have a thought of your own). Second of all, if you're going to find someone to compare, you need to come up with someone better than J Edgar Hoover....We all know how bad the Warren Commission messed up.

  10. Lets see, if your not building bombs, selling drugs, cooking meth, and your not a child sex predator, what difference does it make?

Let them look at my email, half of them are unwanted spam that I can't figure out how to get rid of.

This is a silly argument was brought on by the same people that are appalled that we would hold terrorist in Gitmo and not give them Habeous Corpus rights, hello, the USA has never given illegal combantants these rights, it would be unpredicented. If some think this only started during the Bush administration you have your head stuck in the sand. The ALCU is ruining this country. I can just see this happening; we intercept osama Bin Ladien's email or phone call and shot him or blow up his cave and there will be some crack pot out there what will be concerned if we listened to his phone call's or looked @/read his email with out getting a fisa warrant and will want to impeach someone in the government. Yikes...

Did anyone mention 'W' in this email? A little defensive aren't you?

  11. i dont thinkanyone is giving marto a chance. when he gets in to und's weight training program he will gain the weight that is needed to play in the wcha. watching him play high school hockey he was a phenomenal player and his stats in the ushl were quite good he had 23 points this seaon which was second on his team. he is a natural hockey player and with added size and strength he could be a good 4 year player here. i am not saying he is going to be a superstar but i think he should be at least given a chance to play before we consider him just a 4 year bench warmer.

I'm pretty sure Hak has Marto on a specific weight plan and the kid works out at REA during the summer. While he will improve physically when he arrives at UND, he's not going to going to turn into a freak of nature.

As for Marto being better than Lee?? Holding a 20 year old in the USHL must be a secret disguise

  12. Ryan McDonagh of Cretin-Derham Hall High School is 2007 Minnesota Mr. Hockey.

Eric Herbel of Bottineau ND Mr. Hockey for 2007.

Does anyone know how many winners of the Mr. Hockey award in North Dakota have gone on to skate in the NHL?

  13. How can we say someone is over hyped before he actually even plays for the Sioux? Seems that we would at least want to give him a couple of seasons.

I don't know that "hyped" would be the word, but he may mean "expectations." Based on previous performance, certain players entering UND's program are expected to produce right now and two years is not an option.

  14. Maybe the Vikes should throw in a couple guns and passes for the Love Boat to sweeten the deal.

Throw in Herchel Walker and I'd bet they'd take it! Just Win, Baby!

  15. The Vikings should try trading their entire WR core to the Raiders so they can take Johnson. Johnson by himself would be better than all the schlubs they currently have combined.

The Raiders would maybe give their 7th round pick for the Vikes receivers...

  16. They'll either take Landry, the safety from LSU or they'll trade down.

Vikes covet Gaines Adams, who appears to be slipping on the board. Landry would be a good pick for them. I don't think Quinn will amount to much in the NFL, and I also think Lynch is a better back than Peterson. If running back is the direction they choose, trade down and take Lynch.

The Pack have offered the Chiefs their 1st and 4th round picks for Larry Johnson, and it sounds like they are very close to sealing the deal on the Moss trade. If the Pack were to get those two, look out....

  17. Heard Andy Murray (Team Canada head coach at World Championships where Toews currently is working out with the team. Also, father of Brady Murray.) from Finland on Home Ice over noon hour say that Toews would be playing for the BlackHawks next season. Don't know if he knows something or is just assuming, but he did say it.

It was in the context of St.Louis signing EJ and how improved the Blues would be after their strong finish. Murray was talking about other non-playoff teams that would be better next season, too, and why.

My guess is that as his coach, Murray, is more in the know than we are. At any rate, I wish him nothing but the best...It's too bad he wasn't property of the Wild (aka team Europe).

  18. I am very pleased to see these young men plead guilty. I'm not happy that the incident occured, but that they've decided to accept the responsibility. That's a sign of maturity that is unfortunately becoming rather rare in the world today. I won't pretend to believe these guys won't crack a beer again before they're 21; but they've shown me another glimpse into the core of their character by fessing up.

I am still curious, however, to see (as Hak alluded) how the team dealt (or is dealing) with the infraction.

Let's not kid ourselves here...they didn't wake up one day and decide to do the right thing...It's all about bargaining with the attorney so they had something reduced in the form of punishment.

However, if this is the worst thing these guys do in life, I think they'll be ok....They're 18-20 year old kids having fun. If you look at the big picture, a Moorhead State basketball player was just in court for murder and U of M football players are facing charges of rape.....having a party with the noise too loud is pretty minor.

  19. If they did it would have been to spend the season in Binghampton and this coming year will likely be no different. Lee has talent but he needs to develop his physical play before attempting even the AHL.

I agree that he'll be AHL his first year out. In fact, anybody that would leave other than TJ and Johnny would be AHL bound.

  20. Yeah, he is third in point for defensemen behind Bina and Chorney, and second in plus minus for defensemen behind Bina. I really thought he played the best defense of all the Sioux defensemen in the NCAA tourny, but he did struggle at times during the season.

We had a number of guys who struggled at times this season.....Lee was very close to signing with Ottawa after last season.

  21. The hard hat that gets awarded to players should be named "The Chris Porter Award." In addition to his grit and strong work ethic, Porter encompassed everything the Fighting Sioux Hockey team would want in a captain. As a season ticket holder, those in my section discuss what we think will happen before each game and it almost became a contest to see who could beat the others to say "Porter will work his a$$ off tonight."

Scott Foyt reflected the pride that comes along with being a Fighting Sioux Hockey player. Despite not getting much playing time, he showed up at the rink every day doing what was asked of him. Even though game time was not there, he never hung it up and walked away from our program, which is a true reflection of his character.

Fabian's work ethic and team first attitude will be missed on the ice and in the locker room. We have some talented and skilled players that score beautiful goals, but if the puck was in the corners, Fabian was the one always in the middle of things doing the dirty work.

    Thank you, Seniors.
