  1. Look - a lot of people who are venting here are not saying fire Hak - that's just the unfortunate and somewhat tounge in cheek title of this thread. What we are saying is that part of the job description of Hockey Coach of the Fighting Sioux is to win some National Championships - of course not every year, but some. So far Hak has fallen short. It is not unreasonable to compare Hak to the two coaches who came immediately before him, both of whom won their SECOND National Championship by the end of their 6th year. The pattern of Hak's seasons - start out playing like crap, put together an amazing run late, and fizzle out in the playoffs causes much frustration to fans who are on a roller coaster of emotions. And let's face it - in some of our playoff losses, the Sioux have looked just clueless for a big part of the game. I think that's on the coaches. I agree with a previous poster - Hak has been good, but not great. We have the best tradition and facilities in college hockey - we need to expect great. Otherwise, we'll look like the Gopers during the Woog years.

Here's a list of college hockey coaches and the length of time it took them to win a national title,

Jerry York (winniest college hockey coach of all time): 7 years to win a championship at BC

Bob Johnson: 7 years at Wisconsin

George Gwozdecky: 10 years at DU

Red Berenson: 13 years at Michigan

Don Lucia: 9 years if you count his tenure at CC and Minnesota

These are considered some of the best college hockey coaches of all time.

  2. USA - have you been to New Hope to watch any games?

A couple weeks ago I went - they must have been experimenting with the goals/nets - the colors were reversed.

The goal was painted white and the netting inside the goal was red. Anyone else seen this before?

No I haven't, I'm way to busy to make it down there for any games. I post about the league on a weekly basis to keep fans updated and if it's coming to their local area, they know about it.

  3. I was down at the rink today looking at the new authentics and up close they look much better than in the images. I'm still not the biggest fan of the whites, but the greens look nice.

  4. Now you got me started....

DU Fans. They're about the quietest, most boring fans in all of college hockey. They spend their time sitting on their hands. Unknowledgable also. Just horrible fans. They bore me. You could take a nap in that arena. The only thing that would wake you up is a few hard checks you might hear from their defensemen.

CC fans...that's another story. They rock! I always have a great time in The Springs! But, I hate the Denver crowd. Boring, boring, boring bunch. No wonder that announcer got her panties in a wad. She's used to quiet, boring DU hockey. Well sweetheart, welcome to the real world. If you can't stand the hear, get outta our kitchen!

Gwoz's actions this past year make me wish beyond all wishes that we sweep them in Denver. What a boor. What a maroon.

The city of Denver doesn't give a !@#$ about DU Hockey unless they're good (and even that's questionable at times). When we've been there in the past half the arena is Sioux fans.

  5. Those make me want to cry, they are so ugly. I like old school, but these don't even look old school to me. They look like cheap $30 style jerseys you'd pick up at Wal-Mart or something. I was very excited to see what we'd get, but am truly disappointed. The green "cuffs" on the home jerseys need to go, it's just way to gaudy.

We went from the nicest jerseys in hockey to some of the worst.

I agree with you here. I like the striping, but everything else about the jerseys sucks. The Sioux logo and print is to small, the white on white ND is bad on the home jerseys, and the green cuffs on the home jerseys don't make it look old school at all. These look like little kids jerseys that you would buy at K-Mart.

  6. The 2009 Upper Midwest High School Elite League season starts tonight with Team Northwest playing Team Southwest at 7 p.m. at New Hope Ice Arena. I will post the rest of the rosters and schedule later this week, but here are tonights rosters, as you'll see there are already a number of D1 players in tonights game,

  7. This is the kind of crap that I think is funny. This was from Brad's blog in the comments. I don't there is any monkey business behind the scenes.

The individual that posted that has no idea of what he is talking about. Gregoire changed his commitment because he wanted to be closer to home and the St. Clair situation is a matter of a 14 year old making a decision to early. Just because a player switches his commitment to another school doesn't mean that the coaches were not honoring the "gentlemen's agreement".

  8. Those are goon numbers....no offense Goon.

He's a defensive minded defenseman, but the numbers also don't tell the whole story. From I understand there were some conflicts between the parties (player, dad, and coach) regarding playing time and as a result wasn't given a fair opportunity. I think he's playing in Waterloo this year but I'm not positive.

  9. For anyone in the Chicago area that is interested, the USA Hockey Olympic Men's Orientation Camp is on Monday and Tuesday this week. The camp is open to the public and takes place at the Seven Bridges Ice Arena in Woodridge, Illinois.
