  1. I don’t keep up much anymore on the message boards but when I heard that Brad Schlossman had called him out I had to go and take a look. It’s great that Brad did that because Hammy slithers around like a slimy snake and his half dozen followers actually believe some of the things he says. He's had these voices in his head for years and then he likes to report that he's "heard from other people".

I have hate emails that he sent me going back as far as May 12, 2000 when his address was Hammy5150@aol.com

I don’t know if he still does this, but one of the things he used to do back in the early 2000’s was to go to the Model Camps at Mariucci and wait until he saw coaches sit down and then he’d slowly slither over the chairs until he could get close enough to hear parts of their conversations. Then he would come on the message boards and say that he “talked with a WCHA coach” and proceed to give an evaluation of a player. I'm quite sure the longest conversation he ever had with a WCHA coach was when he’d wait for them to come up the steps as they were exiting the arena and he’d say hi. Of course they would say hi back so in his mind he had a conversation with them.

I suspect it’s the same thing he does now when he “talks with a scout” or he’s had a “conversation with a parent” or he’s been “talking with league officials”. It would be pretty easy to go to a high school hockey game and get yourself situated right behind the parent of one of the players so you can pick up some information.

Anyway, great job Mr. Schlossman for revealing the phony for what he is.

Shortly after Ben Blood made his commitment to UND, Hammy went on GPL and called him a "Casey Bohrer type player". I tried to call him out on it, but apparently I didn't know anything.

  2. I went to watch Gersich play today at the Victoria Rec Center. He's everything they say he is. Good skater (great breakaway speed), slick play making ability, good hands, wins battles in the corners, and plays the center position well. He's also a good two player, plays the body and he was in on the penalty kill. Not sure if it has to do with the commitment, but there was a bounty on him from the East Ridge team today. There were two roughing penalties (dirty hits) that left him on the ice for a little awhile and there could have been another tripping call.

  3. This was from SiouxForever's post:

...I think UND has better everything all around, obviously The Ralph. I think coaching staff now with Berry helping the D out, is better than Portland's too. What won this kids selection is the brainwashing and the NHL grind schedule comparison with the WHL's schedule. We'll see how he develops throughout the WHL. I feel, no question he'll have a huge impact at the World Juniors this year. We shall see...

I thought he was quoting Jones in the post. So my logic was that if UND had everything better all around, then why go to Portland? I didn't realize that it was SiouxForever's comment and not Seth's.

  4. Seth Jones article - I know he's not coming to UND, but still worth the read:

    http://www.nhl.com/i...s.htm?id=639452

"I went to North Dakota, visited there. That was my No. 1 college choice," Jones said. "I loved that place, great facility, great everything there. It was tough to turn down. Then I went to Portland the next weekend. Their facilities are great, the coaching staff is unbelievable."

...I think UND has better everything all around, obviously The Ralph. I think coaching staff now with Berry helping the D out, is better than Portland's too. Based on those comments it makes you wonder if money was been shoved under the table.

  5. For anyone in the Twin Cities area, the Lincoln Stars are having their invite camp this weekend at Ridder Arena. If they run it similar to Sioux Falls and Fargo, Luke Johnson and Paul LaDue should be there since it would include current players. I couldn't find a schedule anywhere online, but they usually run scrimmages and games all day. I'll probably be down there on either Saturday/Sunday or possibly both.

  6. Granted, Berry does fit the best, but I don't see anything in the required or preferred qualifications that says this person needs to be a UND alumni

What if they find an excellent D1 assistant from out East?

It is a nice sense of pride, though, having an entire coaching staff of alumni.

Being a UND alumni is not and should not be a requirement for the job. They take the best candidate that they deem fit for the position.

  7. People always want too think the worst when it comes to these situations. It could be something as simple as wanting a d-man to coach the blue line. I don't believe small town gossip, but even if the affair were true, this is Cary's personal life and shouldn't play into his job situation. This staff has been together awhile and maybe Hakstol just wants to shake things up a bit.

  8. The Target Center isn't the best hockey arena by any means, but I think it makes sense to have it there over anywhere else (at least during the years the B10 is at the X). Omaha wouldn't be a bad place, but you can't tell me that you will draw more fans in Omaha than in Minneapolis.

  9. He left due to the experience and his brother wanted nothing to do with UND because of it as well. Witness all the dumb penalties that John would take every time DU played UND.

John Lee was the backup plan if we didn't get Ben Blood. Looks like we got the better end of the deal there.

  10. maybe I am being to judgmental, but being 17 and heard the stories from many of my highschool friends on the hockey team, they say he's got problems. Don't get kicked off a US hockey team.. that really says something about your attitude.

I trust the coaches decision on recruiting a player when it comes to character. If they thought he was going to be a problem, I don't think they would have recruited him.

  11. Anyone seen Jay Dickman of St. Paul Johnson play, I've seen him play once good size, decent skater, good skill, and physical. Looks to have some potential, just looking for others thoughts on him.

I heard about this kid earlier in the year from a source. He was always a big kid and never a very good skater. During the summer, he took off some weight and worked on improving his skating. His game has progressed a lot during the last year. He has a ways to go, but I think scouts like the potential. I think he's going to play in the USHL this spring, so it will be interesting to see how he does there.

  12. I'm kind of late to the discussion here, but after UM landed Fasching, there was some talk about UND losing the recruiting battles to the Gophs/not having as stellar of a commitment list as UM. I completely disagree.

2012 Commits: Stef Matteau, Jordan Schmaltz, Miles Koules, Zane Gothberg, Colten St. Clair, Clarke Saunders - The members of this class and their abilities are well-known as it contains several high-end players who will contribute immediately. Gothberg's been up and down this season, but he's shown flashes of outstanding play, and I suppose the same can be said about Saunders. Besides, who knows what the goaltending situation will look like next season with Aaron Dell having a career decision to make this offseason.

2013 Commits: Luke Johnson, Paul LaDue, Drake Caggiula, Luke Voltin, Geoff Crisfield, Jack Rowe, Charlie Pelnik - Again, a very talented class both offensively and defensively. Crisfield looks every bit like the second coming of Andrew MacWilliam, while LaDue could become a star based on the progression of his development over the past two seasons. Pelnik appears to be raw but has the natural tools (size, skating ability, mean streak) to become a force. Voltin and Johnson are known commodities and any program in the country would take them in a heartbeat. Rowe and Caggiula are kind of wild-cards at this point and thus hard to project for an amateur such as myself, Rowe because of his limited action in the USHL this season due to injury and Caggiula simply because there's not much known about him.

2014 Commits: Nick Schmaltz, Keaton Thompson - This is the beginning of an outstanding class. The younger Schmaltz is considered to be among the elite 1996 BY prospects in North America, if not the world. Keaton Thompson is performing very well for the USNTDP Under-17 team and he may very well be on track to become the best hockey player the state of North Dakota has ever produced.

There's obviously a lot of fluidity to the commitment classes (accelerating education to come in early, changing commitments, sticking in juniors an extra year, etc.), but based on what we currently know, UND's recruit pipeline takes a backseat to nobody. And there are several recruits out there on the radar that could bolster the list even more - Clint Lewis, Ian McCoshen, Seth Jones, Alex Schoenborn, etc., etc., etc.

Again, nothing here really that's not already known, but I figured I'd put pen to paper finger to keyboard on my thoughts.

Nice post, we have very good recruiting classes for 2012, 2013, and 2014.

  13. Lost another big recuriting battle

    Fasching to gophers

our arsenal is pretty empty the next few years compared to the gophers

This I tend to disagree with. The Gophers are getting the best Minnesota kids, but that's what they've always done. If you look at our recruiting list, we actually have some very good players coming in for 2012, 2013, and 2014, they're just not Minnesota kids.

  14. First off, this whole thing sucks IMO just wanted to get that out there.

OK. I'm curious with OSU and PSU. They have the money to make things happen. With the Big 10 exposure (name, tv, etc) I wonder if they will be able to be more successful in recruiting. For example, in the early going of the conference let's say they are competing with WCHA schools like Mankato, AA, Tech or Bemidji etc for a prospect from Canada. Will the name recognition, TV, big time college sports atmosphere, etc turn that recruit towards those schools? I personally believe that those schools are gonna reap the benefits of this and will become competitive in a hurry. I think the local kids (midwest, etc) will stick to the local schools but it is with those type of kids of really have no local allegience where I think psu and osu will make some hay early on in the recruiting process.

    Good points

  15. Here is my two cents on the Big Ten Hockey Conference. I actually do not think it is going to be the powerhouse that some may think. When you look at the current six members, three of them (Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan) have been consistent programs over the course of history. I understand that Michigan State has had some success, but they have also been very inconsistent. Ohio State is a football and basketball powerhouse and doesn't care too much about hockey (I don't think they have ever made the NCAA's). Penn State is a startup program, and I don't care how big the school is, it takes a long time establish a good hockey program (look at Notre Dame). Now there is talk of schools like Iowa, Illinois, and Indiana starting programs. If this is the case, I don't see how it benefits schools like Minnesota and Wisconsin to be playing startup bottom feeder teams every weekend. The nice thing about the WCHA, even without Minnesota and Wisconsin, is that it has established programs, and as a North Dakota fan I would rather play established programs than startup programs.

  16. Actually it is most of the posters here have no idea what they are talking about. Don't have any national t-shirts and never will. Grant's dad told me that they never recruited Grant. In fact he told me that Hak was suppose to watch Grant and did not and lied to Blais and told him not to bother. So then you are saying Grant's dad is a liar?

Did I ever say that we recruited Grant. I am well aware of the fact that we didn't recruit the Potulny's very hard, but that wasn't the point of the post. There were other players at the time that our coaches were more interested in, and I will stand by my sources on that. You have heard it from Grant's dad, but not the other side.

  17. Read the last line where it states that Steve had more head coacjing experience than Hak when Hak became head coach. Do you not realize that Steve was also the GM at Lincoln and Fargo? If Hak is such a great recruiter why did he not get Potulny to play here? Oh wait because he never even tried.

You have absolutely no idea as to what you are talking about when it comes to the recruiting process or the coaching situation. Go sit down for now and then at the end of the year you can be first in line to buy your national championship shirt.
