  1. The ladies lost 5-1 this afternoon to bring their record to 3-11-4.

The game was a lot closer than the score indicated. If the team continues to play with that kind of intensity they will enjoy some more success this season.

  2. This is definately a series that the Sioux ladies should be very competitive in. MSU is in 6th place just ahead of the Sioux. If we want to move this program at least into the middle of the WCHA they need to be taking as many points as possible in series like this.

Won't be easy as this team swept Ohio and beat St. Cloud once. Hopefully home ice will give us the edge and the girls play tough for 60 minutes. Go Sioux!!

  3. The Sioux played UMD much tougher on Sunday and it was reflected on the scoresheet. They need to take that effort to St. Cloud and get back on the winning side of the scoresheet. Points this coming weekend are critical in the standings and victory would be sweet for Brian and the team.

  4. This team is more physical than a Sioux team has ever been. The intensity was pretty good in the OT last night. They had a few chances at the end to score, it just didn't happen. Hopefully they can get the win later this afternoon.

It will be interesting to see how the ladies stack up against the likes of Wisconsin, Duluth and Minnesota.

Remember, this team is mostly made up of Sophomores and Freshmen.......

Way to start the WCHA season ladies! The team is playing much more fundamentally sound hockey than I have seen in the past. Good luck this afternoon, let's take a couple of points from the Buckeyes!

  5. BU wins in a shootout. Good luck tomorrow against NU. It may not be the ***-whipping I'm hoping the men's team will give the Huskies in a couple weeks, but if you can get BU into OT you can definitely beat NU.

Too bad to lose a game in shootout. I did not think that they were going to shootout this year in NCAA div 1 hockey. Maybe because it is a tournament??

  6. On an unrelated note: Watched the USA and Sweden game last night. Now I see why Gigi Marvin was so heavily recruited.

She would have looked real nice in a Green Uniform. The kid can flat out play.

    Quote from the GFH

"Training in Grand Forks and playing Sunday in Warroad is special to Marvin. Her grandfather, Cal, was one of the founders who started UND's program in the late 1940s. A couple of her uncles and cousins played hockey for the Sioux as well. "

  7. Emily Sell from Williston is one recruit that I know of. She has been the leading scorer in ND for the last 3 years and all time leading scorer in ND Girl's history.

Good, we need offense. Real bad.

  8. Game comments from WHKY Blogger on USCHO Wisconsin thread

"And a 4-0 win for UW

    final shots were 40-11

the story of the 3rd was Kirkham for UND. Boy if she could play like that more often UND would have way more wins.

While UW didn't get complacent with a 4 goal lead and played strong from start to finish, it almost seemed like they were running a practice out there for most of the 3rd. It was great to see Duggan back! I thought she would at the very least miss this weekend and possibly the next series as well..

Overall I thought UW played ok. They were pretty dominant for periods of the game, but more than not I felt like they could have played a little better even if it wasn't necessary. The Checking from behind and game misconduct on Jenny Porter of UND was an overblown call if you ask me. It sure didn't look as vicious as it sounds, at least from where I was sitting.

    oh well..

Game 2 tomorrow! I hope a series like this doesn't cause UW to go into Minneapolis unprepared for the challenges they will face there."

  9. Game report from Minnesota for game 1 (USCHO gopher thread)

"The band marched around the concourse before the game. I realize that this is a staple at Mariucci but it is rare at Ridder. It is, however, always a lot of fun, at least I think so. Yay band.

It was a strangely unsatisfying victory considering that Hanlon gets the shutout and the Gophers four best players each get a goal. At the arena they announced the last goal as a second goal of the game for Marvin but I see the boxscore has changed that to Miller with assists to Marvin and Ross. It was a Miller shot from the point that appeared to change direction at the goal mouth. I guess the referee thought Marvin at that moment. My guess is someone may have actually asked Gigi after the game and she said "Miller". Or maybe they had video.

The Gophers jumped early and got the first 8 shots on goal. Two of the first three NoDak shots were only shots in the sense that Hanlon had to put a stick on them but they were really only dump ins that ended up on goal. I thought that for the entire game NoDak had only one really good scoring chance when a bouncing puck handcuffed Hanlon and NoDak was able to get to the crease before the puck could be cleared away. Other than that, even though the shots were fairly even NoDak did not really threaten. Most of the time, however, Minnesota didn't really threaten much either.

And that's sorta the way the game seemed to go. Minnesota was better but NoDak hung around.

NoDak had two 5 on 3's. On the first Halldorson sent out Miller, Graft, and Marvin. Yup, 2 forwards. And on the second Gigi was out again as they milled about before the face off but then Gagnon came over the boards late and they went with Miller, Graft and Gagnon. Coach seems reluctant to rely on the young defense in these situations.

For the second weekend in a row no Becky Wacker and no Brittony Chartier. Come on back Brittony, we need you."
