  1. That sounds like a cop-out. Politics aside, MOST leaders try to do what they think is best for the "community" as a whole, but we, as a society, have become so indoctorinated in believing that it is always someone elses fault and that someone else will fix my problems. Again, how about getting back to personal accountibility and responsibility and going from there whether your white, black, red or green.

I was TRYING to leave, dammit.

When you read, is there a little voice that hurls words opposite of what is written? I'm sure it has a lot of good ideas, but when it comes to reading it should not be trusted.

    I wrote:

    We ALL can do more.

And then you go and write:

Again, how about getting back to personal accountibility and responsibility and going from there whether your white, black, red or green.

And don't get all pissy about my tone or attitude; remember, you're the anti-PC person.

    Now, back to unity! Yay!

  2. I agree with most of what you said but still. I dont like the finger pointing at the "white people". it seems that is the only thing tribal leaders bring up now. And protesters coming to a university football game to protest a silly little logo. Rather than protesting things that matter. I agree there isnt much leadership anywhere nowadays but the tribal leaders and such are going to get nowhere blaming everyone else for their problems.

My friend, I just want to reiterate that i don't think the leadership on the reservation, the capitol building, city council, etc. has done anything for any of us. We need unity, not division. We all can do more. I know I can do more. Let's focus on the quality of life for all of us.

I better stop my opining here, before I lock another thread.

I love everybody, man! Are you getting this air? [inhales deeply]

  3. Nice bit of racism "hoarked" in your post, friend. I suppose if we teach the children to be PC enabling, guilt laden bed-wetters, that might make things better. Give me a break. I worked on one of the reservations helping to re-codify the tribal code and, yes, I'm white. My dad teaches on one and, yes, he's white too. There is barely a hint of tribal leadership when it comes to issues that matter such as those posted above. Much of the problems stem from economic lethargy on the reservations. These problems stem from businesses not wanting to open on the reservations because of the lack of laws pertaining to contracts and secured transactions. The lack of laws pertaining to such things stems from a tribe's desire to not give up any tribal sovereignty. There is no version of the Uniform Commercial Code on many reservations. There is nothing really that pertains to granting parties rights through contract laws on many reservations. The tribes are so afraid of losing any tribal sovereignty that they do not do anything to draw new businesses to the reservations. Add to this the provincial and racist overtones on most reservations, and you have a real witch's brew that serves to prevent any economic growth at all. The PC nut jobs are so creatively lethargic and so intellectually stunted because they pre-occupy themselves with nonsensical issues like nicknames and logos that they could not even begin to think outside of their own collective racist box to address such issues.

They, they, they, They, THEY, they...I guess we should just give up, then? If you can tell, I'm not PC. I have one of the highest thread-lock/post ratio on the board. Somehow, the anti-PCers can write racist nonsense (not you, specifically) but have difficulty digesting the opinion of others with mirror image views. If you don't like PC, then don't expect a PC retort. It goes both ways.

  4. Since you are obviously leaning to left in your ideology, don't face east today or the strong south wind will blow you completely on our head! There is no pointing of the finger, just wanting the same enthusiasm and zeal from those, and obviously you, who feel the logo and nickname is an issue to tackle those other Native American issues that seem to be irrelevant by those same people. Facts are facts. Leadership is leadership, but as the old "Cowboy" saying goes, "You can only bring a horse to water..." I'm not going to get into a tit for tat. Your opinion is that...just an opinion as is mine, but instead of taking insulting shots at an opinion you don't like, how about providing some facts or insight as to what solutions are being provided for the "continued cultural problems of our fellow people". Your insight would be welcomed...

funny, I asked you the same thing.

  5. Not trying to start a race war or anything but at least the "white people" you refer to are trying to change the things that matter with troubled families. Not trying to push the blame at a university logo and saying that is the reason our youth is mislead.

Great. A race war just broke out in my living room thanks to your post. So, only whites care about families? Forget about the logo - forget that its a neat logo, forget that it looks cool on a coffee mug, forget that it is central to many arguments - the fact is, NO leaders, NO whites, NO Native Americans, NO blacks, no anybody have stepped-in to unite the people. You see a reservation full of a group of people with their own problems, with an invisible fence along the border that will electrocute any whites who offer help or friendship. Do you have a problem with the people of Detroit or Flint, MI? I mean, they lost their jobs, so it's their responsibility to go out and create a new car company, right? Oh wait, we should only feel for those people because they have a bigger impact on our economy and your low-interest financing.

If you took the ACTs you would know about reading comprehension, because I spelled it out clearly that there are no leaders worth anything right now. Period.

    Still, happy day!

  6. That is the bottom line: Lack of accountabililty and leadership by the state's Native American "leaders" as a whole. Where is their protest or platform against generations of unemployment, alcoholism, high high school drop-out rates and high rates of teen pregnancies just to name a few of their social/cultural ills? The blame for their problems has and always will come from some other entity other than looking in the mirror and facing the facts that generation apon generation of lack of own personal responsibility is why their "culture" continues to struggle!! The nickname/logo excuse is just that--an excuse--to hide from the real issues at hand the plague our state's Native American population. They, the PC crowd, can protest all they want, but it is hard to hear their voice and reasoning on the UND nickname/logo issue when you never hear them take a stance on what the REAL issues are in the Indian culture. If changing the logo/nickname brings more respect to the Native American people themselves and in turn makes them want to take more responsibility/accountability for themselves, I am all for it. But if anyone thinks that changing the UND name is going to get a 16 year old male on the reservation to say "Now I have more respect for myself and now I will further my education and be a better contributing member to society" you are fooling yourself. I also believe change is in the future: the logo/nicknames--yes, but not the continued cultural problems of the Native American people in ND because frankly, as it has been in the past, it is always easier to point the finger at something or someone else for your problems!

So now that your done pointing your finger, and you know the "REAL issues" of Indian culture, how are YOU going to help ease the "continued cultural problems" of our fellow people? Don't forget about the lack of leadership from white people, your 4 alcoholic uncles, the three cousins you have who dropped out of school because of drugs and teenage pregnancy blah blah blah. What humanity needs is a leader, any leader, who can lead us all in the pursuit of happiness...Start by being a leader at home, and don't teach your children the nonsense you hoarked in your post.

    Happy Day!

  7. Dead Rabbit, a UND hockey fan should have the good sense to travel 70 miles north to attend a decent school, even if it means changing your major from taxidermy to mortuary science. Your "At least I'm one step better than a guy whose second favorite hockey team is the gophers" reasoning is inept and pitiful. At least Dave K. likes UND football AND UND hockey first and foremost.

Besides Dave K, I know I'm not the only one who was rooting for the Gophers last year against Air Force, hoping for a Sioux/Gophs regional final--I LOVE LOVE LOVE watching the two teams square off when it counts the most because I know UND will out play, out hustle and straight pound the hell out of them. My gopher fan "friends" cringe whenever there's a sioux matchup looming. BTW, if you don't have a gopher fan to watch a UND/Gopher game with, I highly suggest you go find yourself one (can easily be found at a local Menard's near the beer bong building section, or at Bed Bath & Beyond, near the beer bong building section) because the look on their feeble faces trying to find an excuse is terrific. Cheering against Holy Cross was impossible, tho.

All teams from Michigan and Massachusetts can also eat it.

  8. Will Hakstol be looking to fill Toews' skates with someone who is as defensively capable as he was, or does he get a headache like me after he fills out "Depth Chart, Line 1: Duncan, Oshie, and...:D" and quits? it's a lot of talent to sort through, and finding the identity of this team will be a chore. A good chore

  9. i definitely think uaa and uaf need to be in the same league... the ccha  . and bsu and uno should be in the wcha. my only complaints are that bsu NEEDS a new arena to be in the wcha and uno is full of a bunch of clowns imo. and they suck too. and mtu would be the switch with uno. it would be nice if we could just pick up bsu(with a new arena) and give mtu to the ccha.

I don't think uaa and uaf will ever play in the same league--imagine having back-to-back road trips to alaska...

scheduling non-conference games with each other, holiday tournaments would probably work better for them.

  10. Whats the CHL??? When you tell me I'll probably remember haha...

the Canadian Hockey League, which is made-up of the Western Hockey, Quebec Major Junior Hockey and the Ontario Hockey Leagues, I believe. I'm sure there are plenty of obstacles and objections with the ages of the players, though.

  11. Then: It's all your fault! You didn't connect the dots!!!

Now: Stop trying to connect the dots!!!

    or

    Then:

    thb10.jpg

"Dots? Well, I suppose a couple dots can't hurt nothing"

    Now:

    britney-spears.jpg

"GIMME MORE DOTS! I mean, I'm sorry, baby. Just gimme some more dots and I won't bother you anymore..."

  12. People are so cute when they think they have a right to privacy.

If you think your personal data is secure, you may want to see what private brokers like ChoicePoint gather about you.

    Link

the NSA then pays choicepoint a hefty sum to use that information.

Frontline just did a report, "Spying on the Homefront," and had a segment on choicepoint. It was very interesting and frightening.

HockeyMom, you haven't done anything wrong, you shouldn't have to worry, and yet THEY don't care - they still treat you as though you were a criminal.

    ...

"Adherence to our values is what distinguishes us from our enemy."

    -Gen. Petraeus

  13. You have no right to privacy in emails. Whatever you send, much like a phone conversation within hearing distance of another is fair game....like a post on an internet board, such as this one.

Just so you know, they filter EVERY phone call in the US, and probably in many other countries.

If Hockey Mom doesn't want her right to protection against warrantless wiretapping, I'll take her share. You say you've done nothing wrong and they can look in your bank accounts, email, phone records, financial reports, mortgage statements, etc., but you don't realize that you are forking over your constitutional rights. Nobody has the right to search your private info without a warrant.

  14. Well, now Ruff can't play Stafford, barring injury, because he should do as little line-up manipulation as possible and allow his players a chance to figure out their roles. I say Ruff should take credit for 2 of the losses in this series (u pick 'em) just from over-coaching.

  15. With the most PIMs in regular season and playoffs, the Ducks organization once again embarrasses themselves in a 5-0 rout at the hands of the Red Wings. That Nieder+Pronger hit was aweful, followed by another one on Chelios. In fact, that entire second period was loathsome.

I'm sorry, but it's painful just to watch these monkeybutts. Certainly, they can dominate against Euro nancy-boys, such as the Wild and Vancouver. But their crap-ass play is of the sort that makes it difficult to explain the splendor and majesty of the NHL Cup Playoffs to a non-hockey fan. "Bunch of goons!" they say. Yeah, perhaps.

Please, Red Wings, finish taking out the trash and move on to the finals with the Sens.

    taz

I agree. The Ducks are the dirtiest team in hockey, and they know how to get under the opposition's skin. Detroit didn't take the bait, and unfortunately didn't score 11 goals. The Wings have so much leadership, even Bertuzzi decided not to go after any Ducks - I was amazed at the focus they had, even with a four goal lead, as I was praying that someone would take Pronger out. The Wings know this is Anaheim's MO, and refuse to go in any direction not pointed towards the Stanley Cup. Also, the Redwings are very capable vs the 1-2-2, and will be well equipped to play Ottawa, if they win the series.

I thought the Sabres were a bit too cutesy also, but mainly I felt they were trying to match-up too much and not playing their style that got them there. Stafford HAS to play this next game - they need as much offense as they can get. Usually, they wouldn't need to score first because of their high-octane offense, but they definitely have to get out the gate in a hurry. Loosen-up their collective sphincters on the PP, make smart passes, get some guys in front of the net and shoot the puck! Then try limiting the time on PK because Ottawa is the man on PP.

If Toews leaves this year, at least we'll get the satisfaction of seeing him deke Pronger out of his jock once or twice. God, I hate that guy and I hate his flowy, shiny head of hair that he waves around whenever putting on his helmet. I hate that guy.

  16. Redwing, did you or anybody else get a chance to see the Isles/Sabres last game where, in the final period an Isles goal was disallowed? From the replay it looked like the puck was in the net by the time the ref waved off the play. What happened there - the replays didn't have sound so I couldn't tell when the whistle blew. I'm assuming he blew the whistle and THEN waved off the play. It was a critical point in the game, though.

And would it be too much to ask for a NJ/TB game? Just one? All I've seen so far are the highlites.

The Stanley Cup playoffs are so intense and so much fun to watch; the best part is that it only gets rougher and generally less chippy deep in the playoffs.

  17. Here's a few comments from my perspective:

    1. Just because May and Moen are idiotic thugs doesn't make the entire Ducks team cheap. I don't recall hearing much of either of their names the first 3 games and May didn't play in Game 5.

    2. If it weren't for the Buffalo series, I think this one would have to be the worst officiated. The refs ignored so many CFB and boarding penalties on both sides, ignored certain acts that brought more chippiness into play (Cross check to the chin in Game 4; stick to the groin in game 5)... so much so that I thought I was watching a WCHA series.

    3. How could Selanne bleed like he did but not have it be a penalty? Did he cut himself? Good noncall there, especially after the two 4 minute penalties (one per side) that he called where I think both weren't really double minors. They could have bit their tongues, for heaven's sake!

    4. I was rather impressed by Boogaard's restraint. Not his play, but his restraint.

    5. Anaheim played physically, but not as physically as the Wild. The Wild talked A LOT. Anaheim simply played the game. Well, now the Wild have a LOT more time to talk. Anaheim has games to prepare for. Something about talking: Its one thing if you are talking and backing it up. It's another to be losing the game and yapping. I'm the best at dunking the basketball, you know. All 5'6" of me. PLEASE. :(

    6. I still don't like LeMaire. His idea for trying to get great offensive chances is to try for the long pass for a breakaway and it works against teams with poor defense or defefnses that are prone to make mistakes. Anaheim's D is pretty good. Looks like good D's don't give those opportunities up and LeMaire had nothing to counter it.

    7. It was a beautiful textbook 2 on 1 goal by the Wild though. Too bad it came at the cost of Anaheim forgetting that they had 5 players on the ice to Minnesota's 4. Regardless though, it actually looked like the Wild had some life to them for those 45 seconds or so.

    8. Wild powerplay = CRAPTASTIC. I'm sure Giguere won't mind having to replace the ugly logo on his jersey from all the rubber burning it.

    9. I can't decide who is more homeristic: Gophers or Wild TV announcers. I admit Woog knows a lot of hockey so I'm inclined to say that the Wild announcers are more homeristic. Woog sometimes talks Masucko down from his idiot perch whereas the Wild guys run amok with their homerisms. Heh, I loved the call for Selanne to be called for a diving penalty. I can see it now: Selanne dives to the ice, cuts himself, and calls for a penalty. PLEASE. If the situation with Selanne had been oh...Gaborik with the blood running down his face, I'm sure the FSN rubes would be ALL OVER the refs.

    10. Backstrom played amazing hockey. He made ONE mistake all game long (Perry's goal) and that mistake is even debateable. He is my Minnesota Wild Player of the Series.

I wonder if Selanne's head wound was from the shot he took in the head during warm-ups??? Perhaps it split open after a hit.

The Wild announcers are big-time homers. When you listen to woog doing UND games, he gets pretty excited - he always mentions the "Trees" UND had in defensemen Jones, Smaby, Greene, Schneider, Commodore and the like, and he gives the UND program a lot of credit. But he did coach at the U, so of course his main focus is on the gophers.

Backstrom was great. the wild will have a good problem this offseason figuring which of backstrom, harding, and fernandez to deal.

  18. Sweet.

    If that's how it works,

    "Go Cavalry"

because that glorifies the bloody ignorance and arrogance of Custer at Little Big Horn.

Nice try. Riverbend is closed for the season.

Stu doesn't like to bend the rules, so I guess we're gonna have to wait 'til spring (which won't be until late june, I think). Until then, stay warm!

    What about, "Go Up-For-Interpretation!"?
