  1. Is Kringstad's name being mentioned for Team ND at all? No way should Grothman or Ritchie make Team ND, Grothman does not have the skill of an Eli Rosendahl, Tony Kringstad, or even a Justin Welk for that matter. Ritchie is just an absolute goon and nobody will want to play with him or even coach him. I'm not sure who the coach of this team is but I haven't met a single Ritchie supporter from outside of the Jamestown-Valley City bubble.

Side Note- I heard through the grapevine that Ross Monson of Bismarck High and Tyler Jundt of Williston are considering finishing the year with the Bismarck Bobcats. Any truth to this or is it just a rumor?

  2. It might be too early but I'm gonna make my predictions for 06-07 season basically just because I'm bored:

    East:

Red River (next year's juniors look good to me)

Fargo South (good young players and probably the best jv team in the state this year)

Grafton (don't know a whole lot about them but it is Grafton...)

    GFC (same as Grafton)

    Devils Lake

    West Fargo

    Shanley

    Fargo North

    Wahpeton

    West:

    Minot

    Williston

    Jamestown

    Bismarck

    Bis. Century

    Hazen

    Dickinson

    Mandan

    Bottineau

I'll throw my two cents in.

    East:

    1) Red River- return great sophomores

    2) Fargo South- Lose a lot but still have Deichert, Powers, McDougall, Wurden, etc.

    3) Grafton- Miller, Hills, Anderson, Mohagen, plus the best Bantam A players in the state are moving up, suspect goaltending

    4) Devils Lake- Only lose something like 4 or 5 seniors off this team

    5) Fargo North- going to be a lot like this years WF team, were young this year ready to rebound in 06-07

    6) Central- Simonson staying?

    7) West Fargo- Don't return much but still have 3 of their top 6 scorers back, probably suspect in the pipes in losing two senior tenders

    8) Shanley- Lucky Wahpeton is still in the EDC

    9) Wahpeton- Loses 93 out of 125 points off of a 2-20 team

    West:

    1) Bismarck High- Hillman potential Mr. Hockey season? Return several other forwards

    2) Jamestown- Welding, Leben going to have very solid years in the WDA

    3) Minot- taking a step back, looking at potentially number 14 in a row? sry Wilbur

    4) Bismarck Century- took a rebuilding year this season looking to go back to GF

    5) Williston- Colby Rehak by himself, may be able to sneak up with decent goaltending of Haugenoe

    6) Hazen- Tyrel McBain isn't even enough to get this team to the state tournament

    7) Mandan- Big former Select goalie Ethan Kline will keep the Braves out of the Play-in game

    8) Dickinson- Just happy Wahpeton is still on their schedule

    9) Bottineau- do bring up good bantams, potential for that elusive WDA regular season win

  3. What a year, thanks to all the players who made this season so fun from November 22 all the way to the horn last night at the state championship. Good luck to all the seniors who have played their last games and all the underclassmen give us a year half as competitive as this one and we'll be treated to another great season.

  4. Thanks for the note. You raise an important point however, when you touched on the sportsmanship thing. I really don't want to touch that one with a ten foot pole but there is, at times, a fairly wide range in sportsmanship with some of the EDC teams. I think it was under more control at EDC because everyone was somewhat afraid, or they should have been, of what the refs might do. Hopefully, state will have a crew that has not decided that the game is all about them. I don't think I have ever seen so many games where the opposing fans were in agreement on one thing.

cough jamestown, bw blades, west fargo cough :D

  5. After the last North/South game one of the South players (#11) put a vicious slash on an opposing player sometime after the game had ended. The injured player fell to the ice in pain and later went to the emergency room. Those who saw the slash - it was a hard two handed stick against the wrists - were shocked by it. In the end there were no broken bones and the player was able to play in EDC although the injury hampered him I am told. There were some other EDC coaches at the game and if they saw the situation would think it might shape their opinion of the player. A rather cowardly move but hopefully he will learn some self-control from it. He was assessed 5 and a game although a post game penalty like that certainly could have had further review and maybe additional suspension time.

What do you say Stars call it a draw?

  6. Wurden didn't make All-Conference because there are 8 other teams in the EDC and its hard enough for these coaches to humble themselves to give one school 2 All-EDC players yet alone 5 like Fargo South received. In the end there will always be some snubs, thats just the way it worked out. The only ?'s on All-EDC this year are Swanson from WF (although the 4 seed does deserve at least one) and mainly Simonson from GFC who plays forward. Eric Meland definitely had a better year than Simonson yet no Red River apologists are on here bagging for more. It's the All-EDC team not the Fargo South All Stars. I'm sure two-handing a player while shaking hands didn't help his chances either.

  7. This is one of the better Mr. Hockey races we've seen in a long time. Paul Campbell seems to always know where his teammates are at on the ice and can snipe like no other. Erick Galt has it all from the defensive stand point, a rocket, moves the puck well, tenacious in the corners. Paul Weisgarber great shot, great playmaker, really can dangle around some of the top players in the state, does seem a little weak in the defensive zone however but not nearly enough to effect his chances of winning a Mr. Hockey crown. Marc Mihulka IMO will be the strongest all around player to come out of North Dakota in quite some time. Size, strength, playmaking ability, deadly accurate wrist, snap, and slap shots. He does it all wins draws, works on the powerplay, and is good for one shorty a game. Marc Mihulka would be my Mr. Hockey vote with Weisgarber in a close 2nd place finish.

****Side note whoever said WDA Senior Athlete of the Year is automatically up for Mr. Hockey should lay off the crack pipe.

  8. Without trying to start a east vs. west flamefest on here , can anyone logically

explain why the number one seed in the west has had to play the 12:00 game 4

of the last 5 years. I hope we can call this a coincidence, otherwise the organizers

of this state tourney need to jacked up. Please don't tell me there is no differance

in what time you play, because there is! I don't need to rehash the whole sleeping

in your own bed, it;s been beat to death. But if there is a logical explanation I would

    love to here it.

I believe the #1 Western school plays the noon game because that game commonly has the lowest attendance number, and they would rather lose money off a Minot-(Insert eastern 4 seed here) game than risk losing some gate for the best eastern team which usually comes from the city of Grand Forks (the host city). I'm not saying thats the exact reason why and if it is it's completely wrong but it may be why.

  9. I agree with you here, Wilbur, but will happen when Red River puts up 40+ shots against him? My guess is a Red River win about 6-0. It's too bad Hillman isn't on a better team to show everyone how good he actually is. I am excited to see him play, though, my guess is the goals he gives up will be ones he has absolutely no chance at.

I think its better for Hillman to be on the Bismarck team. You'll notice the kid a lot more stopping 50 shots a game and holding Fargo South to 3 goals then him stopping 4 shots for a Fargo South or a Red River. Despite his efforts on Thursday Red River is too overpowering for Bismarck. Hillman will keep it close but Bismarck will need to score a goal to win and that could be too much to ask against Red River.

  10. northdakotapreps.com is a new message board that has a hockey thread where you can talk about North Dakota High School hockey.

That site is a joke you don't nearly reach the amount of people that you do on Siouxsports. I often find the same people posting to themselves.

  11. WILL NOT CANNOT BE STOPPED?? What the heck does that mean? It will be a South V Red River final again. And the best team will win (I hope RR) but unless, Congragts to the Bruins. By the way where is North for the 4th year in a row?, and W Fargo, as always. Grafton & GFC are here again, so don't knock Central for struggling to get to to state again, while other teams missed AGAIN! And moving the game to Fargo or Minot or Bismarck wouldn't change a thing!!!!

  12. At the end of the game yesterday Jamestown's coach gathered his team at the bench and gave what looked to be a very inspirational message to his team after a great effort against RR. They've played pretty inspired hockey both days, and to see the 8th seed play so well in the regional is nice.

They aren't quite the BW Blades are they :D

  13. Central with a goal waved off

Still 1-0 Knights. Lots of penalties this period.

    Grothman playing well

*Josh Ness in goal for the Knights.

Does anyone know why Bina is having a Josh Ness love fest right now? Shane was not bad in yesterdays game vs. WF. Ness was playing JV at the beginning of the year. Jamestown's Leben just scored 5 on 3 to tie the game with 5:01 left in the 2nd period. I think these teams have played 4 on 4 more than even strength this period.
