  1. It was also decided by Craig Parry and Todd Olson (Past and present ADs in GF) that the tournament was getting to be expensive when it was being held at the Ralph, and it was not getting filled up. Becuase the Ralph staff have been able to schedule around games like last year during the state tournament when the Sioux played Wisconsin. Also, it gives the East teams an advantage when they are allowed more time on that ice. And the last reason that they decided to move it is because it lacks the common exciting atmosphere when there are small amounts of people in such a large area.
  2. Please refrain from bringing up JV games on this thread.... Also i'm curious as to how/why you would know such details of a Junior Varsity game. I was under the impression that only JV players/ parents and maybe a few varsity players are in attendence for JV games. Either way ripping on your opposition is a bad idea.
  3. Ha good catch! Doubt that he will be making any posts for a while...
  4. During the JV game there was a confrontation between a cocky 19 for RR and a I tihnk it was 5 for Minot. 19 ran his mouth the entire game. he was pulled out of the shaking of the hangs along with 5 and both were given 10 minute misconducts. COurse this wont affect their play, but it should be noted that an instance occured, and the officials did the right thing in this situation. As far as the taunting goes. Classic West teams running their mouth's again. Liek Schmidt running his mouth and tell the refs they are messing up because his dad and uncle are/were the "big time." Good luck to all teams however in State and regionals.
  5. Ya wilson does need some work on his professionalism with other teams, players, and officials. IT is unfortunate that it took a few eyars before many of the past south skaters understood his immaturity. SOme examples are when he never enters his bench until nearly the drop of the puck, and then acts like a dink during the game. Current south players think he is God during their time there until they mature more. He is a good guy, but needs to show respect for the other people in the sport. As far as winning strategy goes, he did try other opportunities besides scoring. It does not say much for Wahp when they did not even know that there was not a Jamboree this fall...New coach that did not play past high school. You cannot just not score, it is how you play the game. Cycling two lines? he has played many players this year. Give South a break they have worked hard for where they are now. They deserve to be good.
  6. You are correct on the "3 step" rule. It is more of a guideline type rule that officials go by. There are many tihngs that officials do during the game that are not by the book, but are called and the players, fans, and parents do not even know it. These are minimal, but do influence the game none the less.
  7. I witnessed the game. Both teams were inexperianced with no real game plan. They both did the typical Wahp breakout plan of attempting to ice it with a cherry picker up high. Kelvin Shane did not have a lot of Defensive help otu there, but then again he didn't last year either. I tihnk South has th ebest set of D in the state. Which is goign to determine a lot fo the games this season. It was a game with numerous penalties and it was hard fought. Central at first had puck play most of the game until the third period. They were up 3-0 at one point. Penalties killed opportunites for both teams last night. I see Central getting better this season and being competitive as always at the end of the eyar. Shanley with such a young tema and coaching staff will not fair as well. However, thsoe 4-point games can kill a team's record.
  8. For those of you hockey fans, players, fathers, and people that should find sometihng better to do. Yes South has been one of the better teams for years and years.they have the numbers to construct a good team. Wilson has had so much to work with with the Hunters, Askew, Hansen days, the mid 90s with Tupa and many others including the Felmans and many other player. In more recent years with the 2004 hockey team with Galt, Weisgarber, Brehmer, McLean, Kankelfritz, Campbell, Mauch and the rest yet still short of a state title and yes I know that other teams have had amazing players as well. My point is that the last three years South has had three great teams. A great facility to practice and workout in/on, and excellent area programs and training equipment. Yet they come short when it count. The coaching is where it needs to be. I tihnk it comes down to what the players really want. four players wanting a state title will not win it. It is easy to say they are goign to do it or want it a lot. It is another for a team to win it. Wow you sound like someone that actually played the game of hockey and also know the rules of the game. What will get bad again is when players start writing on here complaining of certain officials this season. This is a prime example of bad parenting when parents over the past few years have been the blunt of problems that officials have to deal with. When a player argues with a professional that knows more about the game than they do, makes for an interesting conversation, but i suppose that's what sells.
  9. There are players that prosper from year to year. Yes once Justin Mauch found the joy in hockey rather than other things he played great his senior year. Grant Larson grew 10 inches since he was a starter on the JV hockey team his sophomore year, and was a great asset to South his junior year, and i expect him to be his senior year. Howver, there are times when players have a totaly turn around. Paul Weisgarber is an excellent hockey player and fortunatly his knew has been holding up well. Especially in the Elite League, but things can change. Tyler Dalby for South as a junior was an excellent player, his senior year was a total turn around. That is what is so great about this game. I wonder if we will have more quality scoring chances at the 2006 six championship hockey game compared to the 4 that were recorded at the 2005 game. Classic North Dakota hockey. The season has not even started and it is time to blame the officials.
