  1. You heard it hear first......We will get Derek Sheppard and Marco Hunt as the Referees for the Playoffs as Old Man Sheppard thinks his son is the best REF in the WCHA and gives him all the big games and this has to be the biggest series of the five in the WCHA? Duluth and CC will be good but the rivalry between the Sioux and Gophers will make it even more heated and a trip to Final 5 on the line in St. Paul.......Again expect Sheppard and Hunt to wear the Orange and you know what that means??

  6. Team ND Girls shutout by Team Minnesota 4-0 in exhibition game on the way to the 2006 Chicago Showcase. Team ND Boy's lose 3-1 to Team Minnesota in exhibition game on way to the 2006 Chicago Showcase. The boy's opened up taking a 1-0 lead on a Ross Monson goal. Minnesota scored on a PPG towards the end of the period to tie it at 1-1 after one period. Minnesota scored two goals in the second period. One on the PP and one 5x5. Tony Kringstad gave up one goal and David Bown gave up both goals in the 2nd period. Team ND had penalty troubles in the 3rd period and they had 8-minors to Minnesota's 2-minors. All in all TND had 13 minor penalties to Minnesota's 8-minor penalties. Minnesota is very skilled and moves the puck well on the power play. Team ND killed off two 5 on 3 PP and missed scoring on their only 5x3 PP. Final shots for the game were 29-20 in favor of Team Minnesota. So like ND PRIDE stated, take away the extra PP opportunities, it was a pretty even game. I do not feel Minnesota is as good as last years team, but last year we lost 9-0 in this game and ended up taking 3rd in the showcase so even though a loss is a loss, a close game after getting up at 6:00 am and then getting off a bus for a game it was not a bad showing. Up next for the boy's is pool play action as they open up with Team Michigan on Wednesday at 5:00 pm

The tryouts are March 17-19 in Hazen, ND The team will be posted on the High School Hockey Web Site after March 20th.
  8. The NDHSAA a couple years ago started region senior athletes of the year awards and the Coaches Association sponsors these awards and then they name a state senior athlete of the year. Mr. and Miss Hockey have been MEDIA Sponsored and run awards. NDHSAA has no ties to the Mr. and Miss Hockey Awards. Now the Sr. Athlete Award and Mr. and Miss Hockey awards are both voted on by the STATES COACHES. The Mr. and Miss Hockey Awards are voted on during the week of EDC AND WDA. The Region Sr. Athlete Awards are voted on at the coaches meeting at the region tournaments. When Kevin Fee at the Grand Forks Herald [Mr. Hockey Coordinator] stopped running the award, Bob Gillen took the bull and ran with the coordination of the award since he does the stats and web site and is in constat communication with the states coaches. After last state hockey tournament, the NDHSAA told Gillen that the NDHSAA will not regogniz the Mr. and Miss Hockey award at state tournaments anymore as they are media driven awards and not NDHSAA Sponsored awards. This also goes for basketball, volleyball etc. The media can release these awards but they can not be part of the awards ceremony at state events. Now...since the hockey award is not voted on by Media anymore, we have two awards basically naming the same person being voted on by the same group....the coaches of the state. NDHSAA said to keep this part of the awards ceremony at the state tournament and since it is voted on by the coaches, they suggested we drop the Mr. and Miss Hockey titles and begin calling it the Outstanding Senior Award. They said it would look bad if a regional Sr. Athlete was not one of the finalists for the old Mr. and Miss Hockey Awards. So we have to change this year to get in line with NDHSAA. This means we have to have the two regional finalists and the top two vote getters from the voting done previous to the Region Tournaments. Are we going to miss one or two great senior hockey players from this process? YES! The 18- coaches will vote at the Saturday Coaches Meeting and the Outstanding Senior Athlete will be announced Saturday Night. This whole process has been discussed at both region coaches meetings and is also an item on the agenda for the Saturday State Coaches Meeting as to what the process and future of the award should and will be. The coaches have recommendations and the NDHSAA Reps will have thier idea's and what will happen will only be speculative for now. Hope this clears up this topic for now?
