  1. Looking at his UND statistics, he was one of those 4 years guys who, by the time he was a senior, put up some excellent numbers. That kind of guy was a little more common then than it is today.

  2. I e-mailed Pat Sweeney last week at WDAZ (which does the FSSN broadcasts) about this year's schedule and he said that the away hockey games to be televised had not been set yet. (He did say the Oct. 28 and Nov. 11 FB games were to be on, however.)

  3. I have been watching UND hockey for over 30 years and that line, in my opinion, is still the best line that UND has ever had play together, and probably the best line of all time in NCAA history. Their numbers certainly back that up. Tony H. was simply magic with the puck and Joyce was a great finisher. Johnson, if I remember right, had better statistics in 87-88 than her did in 86-87. When you saw some of the plays they made, as my dad would say, "Uff da!" ???

  4. I really think you're right. As I remember, he always seemed to play a fearless, I'm going to know you on your ass no matter what the size difference is style. If he can pick up where he left off, he'll be a hell of a defensive asset, and also a great inspiration to the rest of the guys.

  5. I know the thread is about Toews, but since the subject of Hirsh being back was brought up, what about Bina? As I remember, he had made great strides in his play right up until the time he was hurt (blindsided, sucker punched, cheap-shotted, etc.). What impact might he have this year?

  6. I talked with a friend today that golfed over the weekend with a head coach of one of the other sports, and this coach said he was told that Toews would be back next year. I think he even said that he was told that by Toews himself, but in my eagerness to believe what I was hearing, I'm not all sure that was the case. I know it's thin, but I think this guy would know what he's talking about.

  7. Just as I switched over from NBC to the Canadian broadcast between periods, Don Cherry was interviewing Kessel, Johnson, Toews, Staal and another kid I can't recall the name of. Asked them questions like favorite player, favorite car, most influencial hockey influence in their career so far, etc. Coincidentally, both Toews and Kessel named Joe Sakic as their favorite player. Toews looked like he was enjoying himself.

  8. #1Hakfan, if you can't/won't give us a name, woulld you please tell us, in your opinion, if this mystery recruit would be considered an "impact" player? defenseman or forward? American, Canadian, or other? Communist or Capitalist?

  9. You're right. I'm worried about enjoying the winter when I should be enjoying the spring/summer. What a beautiful day this was. (I just should have ended it by reading the paper, not starting it that way)
