  1. The moderators have been having lengthy discussions and are privately addressing some of the angst expressed in this thread.

I'm not going to close it yet, because it could still be an interesting topic of discussion in coming days, but only if people quit responding to the off-topic personal discussions.

I wish the name of the thread would be changed. Every time I open Siouxsports.com I about piss myself when I see "Hextall Signs" on the front of the page.

  2. Time to call our representatives.

I couldn't get the pdf to load to see who the dufies are that would A) draft the bill and B) sponsor it. If they're in my district, names on petitions need to be gathered to have a recall election (maybe state representative and senators aren't accountable to recall elections.

    Who elected the fun police?

  3. the refs conferred and reviewed then came out on the ice and signalled a goal

They only showed the replay of the goal from the overhead cam once at the Ralph, it definitely looked as though it did not clear the line. If it hits nothing but pipe... Just because the refs reviewed it, doesn't mean that the puck actually cleared the line. Two words; Randy Schmidt

  4. I thought I was in Mariucci for about 60 seconds Saturday night. During the break between the end of the 3rd period and overtime, the little kid reciting the Herb Brooks speach was played on the video screen. Seriously?!?! Any team other than Minnesota, that would have been fine. However, a little tidbit of info for the genius (I may have been listening to Sid's show for too long) who run's the videos; Herb Brooks used to coach the goofers!!!! How could you not know that?

  5. And here is where our current two-part system is a pathetic failure.

More money is spent on this bulls**t psuedo-war between Democrats and Republicans than it is actually helping the people of this country.

Political parties should be banned. Politicians should have to fall back on their own ideologies and not just pick up the party line.

I don't know about banning political parties, but there absolutely needs to be TERM LIMITS!!!

  6. Either explain why you feel carbon emissions need to be capped/curbed or refrain from further comment on this thread.

Amen brother. A#%$^men. I've asked twice, but have yet to get any type of response. When you believe in junk science (I know another red herring) it's difficult to back up your beliefs.

  7. There is no such thing as simply "passing on costs to the consumer" like you want to pretend there is.

That's because companies don't just increase their prices when their competitors aren't.

The companies that invest in processes and methods that emit less carbon into the environment will be rewarded. Those that don't will suffer.

Consumers are the ultimate winners in all situations.

Just because you say so, doesn't make it so. It's not like people have a choice from who they buy their power from. Person A might live in a part of a state that is powered by a coal burning plant that captures it's carbon. Person B might live in a different part of the state that purchases his/her energy from a coal plant that releases it's carbon right into the atmosphere. Obviously Person B will be paying much more for energy the Person A. Other then moving or reducing energy costs, there's not much person B can do.

Once again, what is the reason fore capping carbon emissions?

  8. Correct, this is about reducing carbon emissions, which is a problem on it's face. No need to add nonense about global warming to it.

Only companies that are emitting excess carbon will see their prices increase. Consumers will naturally flock to green companies whose prices won't increase.

What is the point of limiting CO2 output then???

According to the Bloomberg article that you linked, C02 permits will generate $100 billion/year by 2020. Who do you think pays for these permits? It's not the Exxons and the coal power plants, it's you and me. If Coca Cola is charged more for their sugar by their supplier, they don't eat the higher prices, they're passed on to their consumers.

  9. Global warming is a red herring on this thread.

The thread is about carbon emissions, please stay on topic.

Isn't the ultimate goal of curbing carbon emissions to stop "global warming." If so, speaking of "global warming" is in fact then staying on this thread.

If cap and trade is passed, this will have a CATASTROPHIC effect on our economy (corporations, and the jobs that they provide will be packing up and leaving this once fine great nation). If you think things are bad now...

If Minnesota doesn't want our ND coal, fine by me. But I don't think Minnesotan's will enjoy reading by candle light, or heating their houses with fairy dust (obviously they won't be able to use wood, or other materials that are too dirty to burn, and I'm assuming fairy dust, although to be clean burning, it's also quite expensive). Wind energy isn't at a point to be able to supply that much power to the state, and obviously nuclear power, even though okay for Iran (Obama's words), won't generate any more power than it already does. So where do you get your power from?

  10. If it comes to this; the NDBHE decides to punt. I don't know if I'll be more upset with them (actually UND) or Ron His Horse is a Complainer, and all of the other

complainers. So, I'll probably retire my sweater, and anything else with the Sioux logo, and wear whatever apparel I have left. I've already quit giving money to my alma mata because they wouldn't schedule UND, and I'll quit giving money to the Sioux Club with my hockey tickets. !@#$ PC!

  11. GREENE: (v)

    Three entries found.

    1) To cause someone to squeal, especially someone who might not normally squeal.

For example: The opposing forward got Greened and squealed all the way to the bench.

("I can't imagine having to go up against our (defensemen),'' Parise said. "They're mean. They're real mean. I've actually heard guys squealing in pain in front of the net. I used to think it was funny. Now I sort of feel sorry for them.'')

    2) A collision in which the other guy is fine and you get totalled.

For example: My jeep got Greened after hitting the dude.

    See also: Oshied.

    3) To keep your word, and dish out revenge years later.

For example: Paukovich got Greened in the first practice at training camp.

Good stuff. I think we can include in #3. for example... bruess got Finley'D in an exhibition game.

  12. Exactly people need to quit thinking Chay is good and Finely played awful, thank god he is a senior. Terrible coaching by Hak to keep playing these two all night when they were a minus 5 at least, unreal, way to !@#$ the bed guys!

I think the other four blue liners might get a little tired with Finley and Genoway riding the pine.

  13. NO matter how much I dislike DU, I would have liked them to win. I would like UMD to come back and win. Everyone on this site should or should have too. No matter what Du or Gwoz has done, it has been mentioned that the WCHA is the "premier" college hockey conference and so far it hasn't shown up. It is a great conference but no matter how well we think it is, we kid of have to beat the other conferences when it matters to prove that. It looks like the Sioux may be the last hope. GO SIOUX!!

I would have disagreed if PU hadn't shown the Stalock was a mere mortal again. Nothing worse than facing a hot goal tender this time of the season.

Good for UMD for getting the goal to get it tied up.

  14. I am going down tomorrow morning from the Forks to help a friend in N. Fargo. Now I see they are closing major roads in Fargo. Does anyone know if I will be able to get there with these new closures announced tonight?

The Fargo Police Department has announced the closure of several roads that will be used for flood truck traffic only beginning at 6 a.m. Friday.

    The closures are as follows:

    - University Dr. from 35th Ave. N. to 40th Ave. S.

    - 10th St. from 13th Ave. S. to 19th Ave. N.

    - NP Ave. from University Dr. to the river

    - 7th Ave. N. from University Dr. to the river

    - 19th Ave. N. from University Dr. to Elm St.

  15. The worst part about that is that it doesn't just count as a zero for the team without enough wins, but it throws the whole category out in the indivdual PWR comparison.

Say a team ends up 4-4 against TUCs and is compared to a team that is 11-7 against TUCsf , it doesn't even factor in.

    So a possible double whammy;(

  16. Good grief. The WCHA would add NDSU and Bemidji in a heart beat.

I think the WCHA would add NDSU IF they had a program in place. I don't even like talking about this because it pi$$e$ me off that they don't have DI hockey, and how many chances/times have they talked about doing it? Now that the WCHA has lifted it's moritorium on expansion, they'll let Bemidiji in, and one other school that has a program into the league ASAP. They won't wait for SU to get a program going. SU missed it's chance. It'll be 25 years now if ever for SU to get DI hockey. They have no reason in the immediate future to get DI hockey now that the WCHA is expanding. SU missed the boat by at least 5 years on this one.

  17. wish i knew but i dont but i also know when we sweep this weekend we will jump up a few spots. i still believe the tech and mich state losses in detroit are a big factor to where we sit but that will change soon with the way the sioux are winiing. those were AWFUL losses but the sioux are moving on up like the mutha$%#!@ jeffersons :D

I don't think beating tech of msu in that holiday tournament would have helped much unless the Sioux had went on to beat Michigan. Tech and MSU won't be TUC at the end of the year. Not too sure how much a sweep against st.cloud will help either. Maybe I didn't understand the PW predictor last week, but I thought it said that if UND took just one game from DU, there was a good probability to move up several spots. Not only did they take three points on the weekend, but they moved up zero spots. Other than sweeping Denver early on, st. clown's wins on their schedule look as pathetic as UMD's. We'll be lucky not to move down in the PWR if we sweep this weekend;)

  18. Nobody in the WCHA is a lock for the tourney this year. The best way to make the tourney (without the autobid) is to finish top three in league and win at least one game at the X. The third place game at the X could easily be a tourney entrance deciding game.

As long as the Sioux don't go belly up some weekend, I think they will play well enough to make it.

Can anyone explain why UM Duluth is where they're at in the PWR.

There are a lot of games to be played... Just did a quick "once over" of Moy's bracketology that came out today, and noticed that it is Duluth who is tied with the Sioux for 14th in the PWR. I have some comprehension of the workings of the PWR, but how can Duluth even be in the top 20? The only possible explanation that I can come up with is their one win against Mass-Lowell. As of now, the only non conference win to a TUC is Mass-Lowell. With M-L's remaining schedule they'll probably not be a TUC either. I don't even know that M-L will even have a handful of wins at the end of the year to TUC.

Having UM Duluth within 10 miles of being even being able to see the PWR top 14, just goes to show how flawed the PWR really is.

  19. Yeah Anderson had a rough series. He seemed to call everything. Seriously, Campion hardly got to make a call this series but overall I can't complain with the reffing. Sure it wasn't as good as if D Shep would have been out there but still a pretty even series. I will take 3 out of 4 anyday. I am more concerned with Minnesota anyways as they have an extremely cake schedule the rest of the way. Should be an interesting end to the season.

Also I have to give props to the Denver players who came out to the bars tonight. Have to give respect to people who would wear their Denver gear out after only getting 1 point in the series. Pretty ballsy but I respect that.

Did I wake up in Bizzarro world today? Since when has Derek Shepherd been the benchmark for good officiating?:glare:?????
