  1. If you read my post I did not say we needed more seniors, I said the team we had last year needed another year of seasoning to have a great shot to hoist a banner. We lost that game due to our defenseman making rookie mistakes and lackluster play by JPAR. It is very rare that a very young team wins a national title. How can you become a veteran team if all your best players consistently leave early? It is the nature of the business and I fully understand that but experience leads to titles and it is difficult to gain that experience if you are consistently filling holes and fielding a young team.

We could recruit guys we know will stay four years, but I would rather we make the frozen four. I don't want us to be like a team like Anchorage or Michigan Tech, all their guys stay, but they just suck. Recruiting is a very competitivev thing these days. It's a fact of life that good players leave early from every team these days. The NHL is changing. They don't want their players staying in college, they want their players getting into their farm system to develop. It's not like it was even 5 years ago.

  2. I heard from a friend (sorry, no link, but a reliable source) that you didnt want to sit anywhere near them when they were at church, because there was no way you'd get anything out of the service. Too much commotion happening with all those kids.

    Without a link, I won't believe it.

  3. That was kind of the feeling that I was having right now. I don't know if I was a GM I think I would be looking at Stal instead of Toews. Not impressive to say the least. Funny thing is he will probably still be drafted ahead of Kessel.

On what grounds? It's the NHL combine. Honestly the only part that means a lot is the interviews. It's not like the NFL combine where players are expected to play the same year they are drafted so they have to be very physically fit. Most of these guys will get at least a year or two to develop and mature more.

I don't know why you would take Staal ahead of Toews just because Toews lost his lunch on the stationary bike. It happens. Some people puke a lot easier then others. People puke in hard conditioning drills all the time, so maybe Jonathan is one of those people. It boggles my mind why you would take Jordan Staal over Toews if it's just because of his combine so far?

  4. I picked Matt. The Oilers are just too good at home IMO. They are well rested(I know that doesn't always make a difference, but I think it will this series) and it will be very fast paced. Roloson and Ward are both on top of their game right now.

  5. I think it makes the most sense to split up Toews and Oshie. Both can excel as natural centermen. There won't be a "1st" or "2nd" line, just two great scoring lines. This year, there was no first or second line, we all know that. And remember how fun it was to watch an unbelieveable scoring line go out and have a great shift, followed by the other unbelievable scoring line going out and putting one in the net. IMO Toews and Oshie on the same line = us relying on one line. That is not good.

  6. I'm an old timer with a failing memory, but it seems to me that back in the late 1960's or early 1970's one of the "Flying Frenchmen" from Montreal, Yvan Cournoyer was timed at 50+ mph. Don't take this as Gospel, but as a memory from a long-time hockey fan of one of his favorite players.

No way can that be right. He would have to skate 2 laps around the ice in about 15 seconds(rough estimate....i took a lap to be 550 feet x2 is about a quarter mile). The fastest skaters do 1 lap in about 13 seconds these days. I think the fastest skaters go about 35 mph.

  7. To me the Kessel thing is a pure ?. I think he is hands down the most raw talented player, BUT what a gamble. The EJ commentary surprises me a little. Like some scouts have said, "Toews is a safe pick."

This is not me trying to be a homer BUT...

    1) Toews - Why, because I am a homer. Actually, because St. Louis undoubtedly has alot of respect for how UND develops players for good reason. AND, because they need offense more than defense. AND, because Toews made more progress in the last 6 months than anyone else.

    2) EJ - The Pens have a ton of offesnive talent. EJ fits in where they need help. Plays at UMTC next year.

    3) Stahl - Kessel would be the better pick, but Stahl has the successful brother factor. If there is any way to screw up this pick Chicago will find it. They can't make a good pick 2 years in a row, can they?

    4) Kessel - A steal at this spot. If he reaches his potential, he is the best player in the draft hands down.

    5) Frolic (sp) - I'm loving that European vibe.

Sorry but I completely disagree with most of this. First of all, no way will Toews be picked first. Teams with the first overall pick will pick someone who has the most potential, which is Erik Johnson or Phil Kessel. If Toews would be first I would be very surprised. And IMO absolutely no way will Frolik be a top 5. He only had like 2 goals this season in his league and was outperformed by Tlusty who plays on the same team and is draft eligible also. I think Frolik will slip out of the top 10 actually. I think Backstrom will round out the top 5.

  8. Honestly after the first pick(basically 95% sure it will be E. Johnson.), the next 4 picks could go in any order of Toews, Kessel, Jordan Staal(Peterborough of the OHL), and Nicklas Backstrom(Swedish Elite League). Any of those players can go anywhere from 2-5 IMO. I do think however that Pittsburgh will draft either Kessel or Toews with the 2nd overall pick. They already have 2 centers who are very elite at their positions in Crosby and Malkin. And most people agree that either Kessel or Toews will have the easiest transition to winger.

Here's how I think it will go come draft day:

    1. St. Louis Blues-Erik Johnson(USNTDP)

    2. Pittsburgh Penguins-Phil Kessel(Minnesota)

    3. Chicago Blackhawks-Jonathan Toews(North Dakota)

    4. Washington-Jordan Staal(Peterborough-OHL)

    5. Boston Bruins-Nicklas Backstrom(Brynas-SEL)

That is just my opinion, and it could definetely change, in fact I'm guessing it won't turn out that way. But It was just a guess.

  9. Settle down people. It's always nice to have people from different teams with different opinions on things. Just because they're a Gopher fan with a different opinion doesn't mean they shouldn't be able to post here or are trying to troll. I hate how now everyone is labeled a troll. I'll probably be labeled a troll by someone for this post. I know some of them are trying to troll, but I think Slapshot, WPoS, Buckysieve, and a few others aren't trying to troll. It would be very boring if everyone on here agreed with everything that was said....

  10. I don't even know if he was the best freshman on this years team?

I think he was. IMO we had the two best freshmen forwards and the best freshmen defensemen in the WCHA on the Sioux(for those posters who are clueless, I am talking about Toews, Oshie, Chorney)

  11. It hasn't been confired yet, except by the Minnesota Hockey Journal.

Just curious goon, but how come you always have to have a perfect source to believe stuff? I'm not saying it's wrong but I'm curious. I will trust Minnesota Hockey Journal that Frazee is gone, judging by the way his season went.

  12. Parise is gone. Everybody outside of Grand Forks has already come to this realization. It's no surprise. Frazee leaving Minnesota, however, is a huge surprise.

Most people IN Grand Forks have come to realize he will be gone. Yes Frazee leaving is a surprise. It sounded like he has a lot of growing up to do.
