  1. I don't understand the bashing of VandeVelde. I was at both games, and in my opinion he was one of the best forwards for the Sioux on both nights. He really raised his game and tried to set the tone. Sure, he took that checking from behind penalty. But don't you think there was a reason he was still in the lineup on saturday? He played very well IMO. He deserves to be in the lineup because of that play. He looked much faster and confident this past weekend.

As for Martens dressing, he really hasn't shown a whole lot during games to show he should get to dress. He scored once, but thats about all he did. You all have to remember too that a lot of who dresses depends on the practices that none of us see. It's not just games.

  2. I'm guessing that they will rotate.

From reading in between the lines on PCM's recap, I think Friday will be Bishop-Genoway-Miller and Saturday will be Bishop-Genoway-Vandevelde (or some combination).

If Miller doesn't play on Friday, I'd expect to see him play on Saturday. Same thing for Vandevelde. Maybe Martens will make an appearance? Who knows.

How do you know for sure that none of them are on 3rd line? I'm guessing we see Genoway play 3rd line and an all freshman 4th line..thats the way it sounded when Hakstol was on his radio show anyways.

  3. There was a recruit at the game tonight... red hair, about the same height as Eades... any guesses?

It was Brad Malone. I actually talked to him for a bit. I posted this in another thread but apparently not everyone saw it. He said its definetely down to us and Wisconsin and he will make his choice in the near future as he already visited Wisconsin. He was very impressed by the arena and I let him know that the crowd at the game was nothing compared to what he would see during the regular season. He laughed and said I can't imagine. He seemed to be having a good time too.

  4. Injury update: Forney injured his shoulder last week the day his article was written. It is only minor and he will suit up this weekend I think. And I believe Zach Jones did something with his groin, and Matt Watkins I'm not sure, but he did get hit into the boards from behind pretty hard yesterday and got up slow.

  5. Just FYI, Brad Malone was at the Sioux game last night. I talked to him for a bit, he seemed to like it. He said he was here this whole weekend. He said its definetely down to us and wisconsin. Didn't really hint at what he was going to do though.

  6. Let me start off just by saying I really don't care about the recruiting rankings. #6 is pretty dang good in the country. I honestly think thats about where we should be.

I am actually embarassed that any Sioux fan would argue that our class is better then the Gophers. They have a phenomenal class this year. It's kind of ridiculous to think that ours could match theirs talent wise. I'm a very very loyal and die hard sioux fan, but come on guys, don't try to argue when your point is so wrong.

  7. Joe has shown me little more than size. In fact at the end last season, i believed he was the worst defenseman on the team. Joe will have to fight for a spot on this years' squad with little Genoway coming and Bina back. Joe oviously has not shown the coaches for USA hockey much either, as he was not invited to try out for the WJC squad where Chorney, Lee and Jones were all invited. Joe is probably a nice guy; at 6-7 255 on the ice, that is the problem.

Actually, at the end of last year, I thought he improved tremendously. He looked very sound positionally at the end of last year. I expect him to have a huge year this year, not "fight for a spot". And sorry that he wasn't good enough to be invited to the USA hockey tryout camp. Not every good defenseman in the country was invited. There are only so many sports.

  8. I take back the "I LOVE YOU, MAN" thing as I just checked midco channel 33 and that is FSN (i.e. Fox Sports - North) not the Fighting Sioux Sports Network. Did I make a mistake or are people just messing with my emotions. Now I have to tape back together my divorce papers (just kidding).

Sorry I just thought you meant FSN. My bad. 39 is the channel that all the home games are on in Bismarck.

  9. Moving from Minneapolis back to North Dakota (Bismarck) and wondering if the FSSN is on regular TV in Bismarck like it seems to be in Grand Forks, Fargo and Minot? Please say it is!!!!

Yes, it is. Channel 33 in Bismarck.

  10. Oshie or Toews?

    Kozek or Duncan?

    Forney or Zajac?

    Radke or Kaip?

    Lee or Porter?

    Bina or Miller?

    ------------------

    I'm going with:

Oshie, because he's too old for the WJC by days.

Kozek, on a gut feeling that he'll clean up on a scoring line.

Forney, although he'll be trailing at the halfway point.

Radke, on the strength of second unit PP assists, although it won't be easy as Kaip has become a scoring machine.

Lee, with a big offensive year on the PP. If Porter ends up on a PP unit, he could also have a big year.

Miller, surprises by contributing regularly from a lower line, while Bina pulls an Andy Schneider and focuses on defense as an upperclassman.

    Toews.

    Duncan

    Forney

Radke-assists(comparing him to a forward is weird)

Porter-he is ready to break out

Miller-should play enough to put up some points

  11. i cant believe Ryan Stoa was wearing his gopher breezers. wow

    great pix !

I'm sure all of them were wearing their own teams' breezers. You need breezers that are broken in and comfortable. They all probably had those USA hockey breezer covers on their regular breezers.

  12. Will he then be too old to play with the U-18 team his senior year of high school?

The article just said he just turned 16. So he will be 16 while playing on the U-17's, and then I assume 17 while playing on the U-18's. Can you be 18 and play on U-18? I'm not sure how that works.

  13. I call B.S.

Everyone knows that Oshie stole a Kessel jersey before the game and scored those 2 goals. At that same time Kessel was at Blarney's (not back checking) while the USA coaches tried to figure out how to make T.J. eligible for the upcoming tourney and find an excuse for leaving Phil off the team.

You know what, I'll just say it to make you happy. Phil Kessel sucks. He is an overrated prima donna. All he can do is skate. He has no defensive awareness. He is a very ugly person. He is an alcoholic. He shouldn't have even been drafted. Oh yeah did I mention he's ugly?

  14. I remember that now & Johnson was not far behind

You young guys there has not been many even close to Joyce & Hrkac & Johnson (as far as scoring) I still think Oshie is in that league - sorry but Panzer - Bo & Parise even Blake - were close --- Toews could do it, but I'd bet on Oshie 1st

Ok I'm sorry but I'm not willing to say that Oshie is close to Joyce, Johnson, or Hrkac. Those guys were legends at UND. Put up the most points in NCAA history. I love Oshie, but come on now, he had 43 points last year. Those guys put up close to, or over 100 points. Let's wait to declare Oshie in that same class(by the way, for my money I would say Toews will be the closest, point wise, to those, but he's still nowhere near them for me yet).

  15. Widely assumed by whom? For it to be "widely" assumed, you must think a lot of people around here follow that league, which I don't think is the case.

He got a very good offer to go play over there, and he looked at his options and decided it was best for him. How much do you know about that league anyways? Been to a lot of their games? Read that nice website all the time?

I'm not sure we saw enough of his "healthy" games here to decide if he is an NHL player or not.

I actually agree that it is a defensive league. Most european leagues are very defensive minded and tough to score in. Michael Frolik(top 10 pick in draft) scored 3 goals this year in 40 some games in the Czech Elite League. 3 goals(yes he is a forward)!. Most of the european leagues are defensive, and I expect the same for the Swiss league.

For what it's worth, I'm not so sure Brady Murray will ever make the NHL. He has the wheels, but he is very small. I know that it is the new NHL and all, but I just don't think Murray will make it. Hopefully I'm wrong.

  16. Just to let some of you know, I have received word that Brad Berry will be coaching the Manitoba Moose this season. Sorry no link, but I think it will be announced possibly tomorrow. If this is true(I trust my source), then it is a very tough loss for UND.

  17. Rumor has it that on sportscenter, Toews said he would go back to school for one more year and take it from there. I have no link or confirmation, but a poster on another site said they saw it on sportscenter(i'm assuming the canadian one, the US one would never put hockey on theirs)

  18. On another note, I'm listening to the team Canada junior evaluation game. Team White(Toews' team) is up 2-1 over team red. Toews just had an assist. They just said "I wouldn't be surprised to see this young man from North Dakota wearing the C when this team travels to Sweden". What a compliment.

Edit: Toews just scored to make it 3-1. Stopped on the first shot, but buried the rebound. "That is the makings of a pure goalscorer, he didn't just skate by after the first shot, he stopped and buried the rebound".
