  1. Is horse collar legal in NCAA?

If it is that's surprising since college lives to protect the players. If TO wouldn't have been hurt we never would have heard about this.

Seriously if you aren't watching the FLA game while listening to this game... put it on. I don't care about either team but they are both playing hard hitting football.

    YES it's OK

  2. This really has nothing to do with the game yesterday, but since there was talk early in this thread about the quarterback situation next year, I thought I'd throw this out there for consideration. IF neither Freund nor Landry seize control of the job early in spring ball, how about moving Rory Manke to quarterback? He was a heck of a high school quarterback, and if he has even half the intangibles that Reed has, he could actually be our best option, notwithstanding the fact that he hasn't played the position for a few years.

Rory Manke is not a d2 or d1aa QB. Keep him where he's at. He'll be a consistent All-Conf performer at Safety.

  3. Taylor's demands are really poorly based in my opinion. The only way that they hold a ton of merit in a two for one situation is if the Bison leave the Great West. Homerstrom reported that this was a possibility but I'm not sure an NDSU-SDSU pairing is attractive to many conferences (thanks to SDSU).

This being said, when UND moves up to Iaa the Great West would be stupid to turn them down in their bid to get an atomatic bid to the playoffs. The Great West needs numbers and UND and anyone else that moves up helps them get to the magic number. If UND gets into the Great West they will have to play a rotating schedule.

  4. Our seats are in 207. Which row did this happen, I missed it. I did go to the ladies room at half time. Did security take him/her out? I sure hope so.

I saw more than one person drinking beer in bottles in their seats. I thought no one could take beer to their seats?

It hit in row X. It was midway though the third quarter, the blown WSU drive before the safety I believe. I spent some time in a daze wondering through the "Fatherly" what ifs.

  5. Great win for the Sioux today. To take a decent team out behind the woodshed the week after a huge win means a ton for the team. I really think it was big to show no signs of a let down.

The only thing that I was disappointed in was some of the bad penalties they took. Stroups was rediculous, beyond playing hard.

All in all a Good Win............Next week Conference time again.

****In addition..........to the chump in section 207 today that thought it would be cool to throw a half full bottle of beer down ten rows in order to have it splatter a few fans including an elementary student, an elderly gentleman and my seven month old son: I hope that the security took you where you belong, treated you like dirt and then banned you from all Sioux events. Your not the type of fan I want to be associated with. Drunk and Stupid is now way to go through life.

  6. You seem to be suffering from the same inferiority complex as the D-1AA schools who whined to get this terminology changed. The D-1AA schools that are D1 in all other sports, 99% of the time, can't compete in any other sport with the D-1A schools. If you suggest otherwise you aren't being honest with yourself. I have no problem separating the D-1A's from the D-1AA's... and I'm a fan of a school that will be D-1AA in two years. Villanova and Georgetown, like Maine and New Hampshire, are D-1AA schools. Just because they happen to be competitive in one D1 sport doesn't make them any less D-1AA.

    Dave K,

Why is football the be all end all of DI classification? It's a money thing. GTown, Nova and Gonzaga are private institutions that don't have the means to spend "big" on football. That makes them no less DI than other schools. For all UND fans that have made the statements that UND is the first DI school in ND than your feelings would go against that because UND wouldn't be real DI if DIA Football is the key. Classify sport individually, don't classify institutions.

The subdivisions are a joke, just like making the Sioux change their nickname. It will take decades for people (other than the media) to refer to levels this way. The Sioux will always be the Sioux, DI and DIAA are going to be that way, Comisky Park will always be that, the SkyDome etc.......

  7. Here are a couple of thoughts that came up in conversation last night after UND's announcement.

    Don't be surprised if:

    1) St. Cloud St, UMD, Mankato, UNO look hard at DI simply to team up with Hockey.

----My personal feelings are that UNO should look at DI as well. They are well rounded in most sports and are in a good area to have natural rivals for scheduling. (Creighton, Nebraska, The Missouri Valley schools etc.)

I think that St. Cloud State and Mankato are more apt to join the NSIC that to move up. St. Cloud proved that money is tight by not "going all the way" with their new stadium. Mankato has never really been much of a factor in football and I can't imagine that they think DI is possible. I think that UMD is much closer in terms of compitition and support to move than the others except St. Cloud. If St. Cloud has the support I'd like to see them try.

    2) USD will move up simply not to be left behind. If they stay behind their travel to compete is going to be a little taxing. With UND, NDSU and SDSU going up.....USD almost has to follow.

    3) Augie looks hard at dropping scholorships for athletics all together and attempting to go DIII. Being a private institution they would fit really well at that level. However they would need to find a conference. That being said it is a decent chance that they would get a good look from the MIAC. The MIAC said no to UM-Morris, but Augie is private and would be a good fit.

Just a few thoughts. I guess we'll see what happens. I think we also need to remember that NAIA isn't going to make it another decade and therefore some more teams will be looking at moving. I would like to see NAIA disband sooner rather than later and then the NCAA could do some reorgainization to level things off.

  8. I think we always knew Lennon supported the move. He's made comments in the past and he flirted with Sacramento State a few years ago. That flirtation was simply for a climbing of the ladder. I think we can all feel confident that Dale would rather be at his alma mater, but he knew that DII was becoming watered down and not the level it used to be.

Good move for the Sioux. Time for the AD and his staff to make sure that the coaches are energetic and highly invloved in recruiting all kinds of athletes, local and otherwise. Let's build, let's win and lets have some more SIOUX-bison weekends !!!
