  1. I think Coach Jake should follow the same model set my Mark Few @ Gonzaga. Take a mid-major and continue to make them a nationally known team. At this point in time it seems easier to recruit athletes to top level mid-majors than lower level high majors. Those coaches get to sell a much higher chance of getting to the Dance @ N. Iowa, Gonzaga, St. Mary's etc... than right now at Iowa, Iowa State, DePaul, St. John's etc...

  2. I was in attendance at the su - SIU football game.

Things I noticed: 1) NSDU fans still haven't let go of the rivalry no matter what they say. I heard many negative cheers that still included Sioux in them.

    2) Dale and his NCC all-star coaching crew had a much better game plan going into the game and it showed in the first half.

    3) 2nd half was a different story....size on the su side wore down the SIU bunch. Bohl and Staff especially W. Garza made some nice adjustments.

I assume Dale and Bubba will be looking for some bigger horses for the D-line in the next couple years.

    4) The SIU LBs are quite impressive. Very quick and they match that with strength.

    5) I will not be shy to say that I miss the Sioux - bison game. Being in the dome and remembering Jimmy running away from the Bison DBs amongst other memories came back to me. I want the game back and hope I don't have to wait too many more years.

Good Luck to the SIU coaching staff (except when they play the Sioux)

  3. Where is the crazy guy from Winona that thought his boys were going to beat the Sioux last season and could only get a couple of points?

Did he graduate? Drop out? I was looking forward to a couple of posts per day this week. I need more humor in my week!

  4. I love Weston but the RB from Chadron State that lit up Montana State the week after they beat Colorado is the front runner for the H.H. I hope Weston gets it....but I'm not sure.

  5. Great day for North Dakota Football. Big Win for UND, and two former West Fargo RB's have huge days.....Brian McNeil rushes for 144 and a TD vs NWMST and Tyler Roehl rushes for 238 and 3 TDs for NDSU vs SFA.

    CONGRAT SIOUX and others!

  6. I need big help! Will someone that is able to listen on the radio post updates on this board. I have moved from KFGO listen area and my work computer (the only computer I currently have) doesn't allow me to listen to any streams.

    THANKS

  7. Anybody heard about DJ Winfield from Iron Buhl? I had heard that he might be looking at UND to play Football. I believe he would play DB at UND. I saw a post on a high school website that noted he was looking at UND.

  8. Everyone will admit that UND lost out on Craig Nelson to an extent. He was a good solid player in HS, I'll give you that much. But Blake Strouth wasn't recruited by UND because he wasn't very good in high school. That's coming from the mouth of one of the assistants from MSUM. He worked his ass off though and improved his game to the point where he's a good scorer and a good ball handler. These guys were solid in HS, but not necessarily good enough for bigger schools. So they go in there with a chip on their shoulder bust their butt and get their game to the point where it looks like other teams missed the boat. The biggest factor with these guys though are level of competition. If they aren't putting up good numbers and playing solid in AAU ball with the high level of competition, they aren't going to get recruited by the likes of even UND or NDSU.

I'll give you the fact that Strouth has improved himself a ton to be the player he is but........Craig Neson was the best basketball player in ND his senior year. He proved it throughout the season and in the Lion's game. Some of the bigger players such as Koenig got the press and the DI looks but to any coach if they had to pick a player to start a team from ND he'd been the guy. The deal with Nelson was that UND wasn't his first choice. He was given the opportunity to play at Northern State for a legend of a coach. Don Meyer's name comes up in coaching circles with the likes of Dean Smith and Coach K. UND might have been in the mix but at the time they had only facilities to compete with NSU. As far as becoming a better ball player and learning how to play the game. NSU had them beat by a long shot. I'm not sure how Jones is going to change that. As a Sioux fan I hope he does because players from the state can't get away as Nelson did. I for one am not a fan of the JuCo/transfer players making up the roster. I understand that in order to compete this year these moves had to be made. Hopefully this is the starting method and the goal is to get four year players to grow and learn in the system and the JuCos are only a band-aid when needed.
