  1. You are obviously not hearing me. My initial premise was, and still is, that South is loaded with talent. They had great talent last year, and they should be even better this year and next year. In my opinion, South is much deeper and more talented than Red River, probably the next most talented team. Central has Marto, but not much else. Grafton has the Campbell cousins, but not much else. My point is that if Wilson does not win with this group, there is something wrong. I know Dean well, I like him and respect him, and I think that he is a good coach. However, his teams have underachieved. He has to take some of the blame because of the style of play that he has used in the past. He even played dump-and-chase when he had Askew and Hunter, one of the most talented groups ever to come out of Fargo. Last year, he did get away from that some, which is probably a reflection of the talent.

South and Shanley are not even comparable. Shanley only had a few kids that would have even skated varsity for South last year. It will be worse this year because the vast majority of the Flyer and Raider kids are going to South and North. Yet, despite that lack of talent, Shanley almost beat South last year in Regionals despite several very questionable calls. Frank Burggraf has coached teams (Puckhogs) that did very well in Minnesota tournaments. Ask some of his former players like Tyler McGurra (former South player) and Tanner Anderson (former Flyer and West Fargo player) what they think of Frank's coaching. Tyler is at the Burggraf camp now getting ready for Harvard next year. Additionally, Tim Graveline was a former Flyer coach of Askew, Hunter etc. that lost one game as Flyer squirts. I'm sure you were not aware of that.

Tim Graveline and Frank Burggraf are great coaches and know a lot more about hockey than most around here. Dean played football at UND, not hockey. Frank and his brother played for UND and won 2 national championships. His mom, Nancy, developed the skating program that is still used at UND. Ask Dean Blais if they know what they are doing. Tim played college hockey for NDSU and his brother played for Wisconsin. With all due respect, if you give them the talent that is at South, they would win easily.

If you want to praise Dean Wilson, fine. I have no problem with that. However, do not criticize Frank and Tim when you know nothing about them and your opinions and judgment are clouded by the fact that you bleed Fargo South colors and you have no objectivity. :p

Now hold on a second here. You say Frank ''played" for UND and won two national championships? Did he "play" or ride the pine. Now let's be honest with ourselves. The stats will further strengthen my point. Also Tim's brother played at Wisconsin. Is he coaching at Shanley?

Note: I went to many Shanley games and I love the glass smash that Frank does with his foot. It's really classy.

Good argument. But your statement had one weak point. When you say there were questionable calls last year against south at EDC you are wrong. The call against Fylling was the right call. If you read the 2004 rules book you would understand that the goalie cannot be touched inside of his protected area. Earlier when you named off all the players that the Burgraffs have coached, remember that Wilson did coach the Chicago Showcase who only lost to Minnesota by one. Now that is good coaching.

  3. That is really mature to take shots at a 18 or 19 year old kid. It must make you feel real good about yourself. The only thing that I can gather is that you are a disgruntled South or Flyers fan or player. Kyle Graalum is a great kid, and was a Flyer all the way up through Bantams. He was an A player every year, and was more talented than any of the Flyers that he played with, which is evident by the fact that he is playing on and none of the recent South grads are. Do you want to compare Burggraf's to Wilson? From last year's Shanley team, 2 and probably 3 will play junior hockey: Kyle Graalum for Fargo-Moorhead, Pete Fylling for Bismarck and Elliot Hitt, probably for Fargo. Please also consider that Frank Burggraf had in his "dirty dozen" skating group since very young---Dan Irmen, Jason Blake, Brent Vesta, the Klava brothers, etc. He also attracts pros from around the country. Last year, the NY Islanders sent several young players, including one of the top contenders for last year's rookie of the year; the Chicago Blackhawks sent 2 former No. 1 draft choices from Russia; and every year, you will find Jason Blake, Ryan Kraft, Ryan Bayda and a host of other pro players at his fall camp. Can Wilson make the same claim?? :)

You have a very stong point here when you say Shanley is going to have three players move on and South none. But you are wrong. Luke Brehmer, the best defencemen in the state last year, will play for a very talented St. Thomas team next year.

This is probably Shanley's only year for a long, long time that they will produce some players to move on, and south is just about to send a lot of talent out to the next level. So your argument will not be credible in the next 1-5 years.

  4. Jack Mickleson, well eventhough we had a good grouup of kids on that bantam team, I don't think they will be able to win the state tournament in 2006. They were great in bantams but with the crappy HS program we have here in Minot with Samson as coach, it doesn't look good. From the people i've talked to, i've herd that Minot has a very very poor team. Kids sware at the coaches, and don't work. So with this and playing in the West for 3 years I dont think they will get any better then they were in bamtams. Eventhough they were great in bamtams I don't think they kids will take it seriously enough to win. And I have a feeling that since the west isn't any good that Jordan Willert will probably leave early, and he is the only chance they have of starting something. So with him gone and the way we run things I'd say we have about as good of a chance as Dickinson.

I agree that willert will probably leave. But where to?

  5. Red River will be the top team in the state hands down. They have 6 returning defenseman, 8 forwards and a very promising goalie in Eli Rosendahl. I saw that kid play at the pepsi cup and he was very solid.

Bismarck High's goalie, Hillman, looked a ton better than Rosendahl in that tournament.

  6. By the way I was just making a joke about marc harrie, and imo the next two years GFRR will be the top team in the state and probably years after that since GF switched its bantam system to a draft. When the juniors and seniors of 2006 were in bantams they were two differnt teams but now when they get to high school the majority will all go to Red River and only a few to central. And one of those teams embarassed the favored Fargp South in the state semifinals in 2003, before losing to us in the final. So I think that even tho Central was the top team the last 2 years that Red River will be a force in those next years, you just can't see it since they divide them into two teams. And speaking of next years Mr hockey, i'd say Jake Marto has it allready won.  I don't know what you guys are talking about with this South guy.

Minotmagic, you say you watched the 2003 Bantam A State Championship Team but you say RR will win it the next 2 years? You have to like your chances in 2006, dont you?

  7. Being good enough to play somewhere and actually getting a chance to play at that same place are two entirely different things.

Often times politics play a part in whether a player makes high school team and, therefore, it would stand to reason that someone may be good enough, but not be afforded the opportunity, to play for that program.

I agree with the politics playing a part whether a player makes the team but if they are good enought to make Chicago Showcase but not make Minot. Wow, that would be some politics that the administration may have to look at. That just isn't your every year politics.

  8. When you get out of diapers in a few years, please feel free to post. Until then, please spare us your immature and uninformed comments. :silly:

This is from the same person who said Pete Fylling "blows", a really mature thing to say about a really good kid who was also good enough to score a goal at the Chicago Showcase.

I have a question for you. In one response you say Pete Fyllling wouldn't have had a chance to play at Minot. :glare: But later in a later post you say he is good enough to make the Chicago Showcase. Now that would, possibly, make sense to me if Minot had an all-star team last year, but they really didn't. So please explain to me how you can say that. Thanks

  9. Sean Deichert was in the Catholic school network. He actually transferred over to South because his father Tony wanted to coach him (he's the goalie coach at South) and because Shanley holds later practices. Some would say that Dean Wilson actually recruited Sean, who was in the Catholic school network his whole life.

Marc Harrie was not recruited, he has been a Burggraf kid since he was a squirt, and is not going back to South.

Trevor Anderson came to Shanley on his own because he has been in Burggraf since he was very young. He did return to West Fargo for a variety of reasons that have little to do with Shanley and more to do with missing his friends and girlfriend and academic issues.

Elliot Hitt came because they did not have high school hockey in Sioux Falls.

Would you care to go on? :0

You have to be thinking marc harrie will transfer back to south after this season shanley is going to have.

  10. You don't know what you are talking about. Paul may only be 5'7", but he is probably between 160 and 170. He is very solid. He is also exceptional and probably the most talented player from South since Brandon Askew. There is always room for a "small" guy at any school when you have skills like Paul. However, Wilson loves big wingers and big defenseman, even if the smaller players are more skilled. It fits his style of dump and chase hockey.

Dalbey a Mr. Hockey candidate? Please! He's not bad, but Adam Campbell, Paul and Logan Doeden are better even from South. You are right that Marc Harrie would not have played varsity last year for South, but I disagree that he would not have made varsity this year, barring politics or size issues. He was one of the best players on the Flyers teams at every level, playing 2nd line center behind Paul Weisgarber. The problem is that the junior class is very talented, so some very good forwards will be fighting for varsity time with Paul Weisgarber, Adam Campbell, Logan Doeden (who is actually a sophomore, but is the same age and played all the way up with these guys), Josh Ramberg, Brandon Mauch, Adam Kotchian, Grant Larson, Pat Gores, etc.

As I have said before, if South does not win with this talent, there is something wrong.

Skateshattrick, you are a master mind about Fargo South. Do you play for them?

  11. Moreland should have stayed in Sioux Falls for a year to develop and make some room for him. Sando if he makes the cut will more than likely be red shirted or both will red shirt if both make it.

Both Moreland and Sando have big time shots. These are NHL type shots. Sando is easily strong enough to handle NCAA hockey. The Sioux need someone with Bochenski to put the puck through the net.

  12. I hadn't heard Erickson was hired, who did he replace? I agree, Erickson is a very good coach, I wonder if he was hired to eventually replace Smith.

If South doesn't win State in the next couple of years the Southside parents yearly calls for Wilson's head may actually be heard by the South administration.

I remember the good old days when the North side ruled South in hockey :0

Schmidtdoggydog needs to move to the Northside, his kid has a heck of a shot .... of course he's just out of diapers.

I agree with south winning the championship at least once in the next few years but I disagree with getting rid of Wilson if they dont. He is the BEST coach in the state, hands down.

  13. Look out for Shanley this season.

    -SHS Alumnus

Are you serious? They must have some big time players coming in from out of town that nobody knows about because the senior class last year was the only reason they came even close to making state. They have very little coming back.

Jloos I agree with the drugs at North and the only player I have respect for on North is Nick Klenow.

The last thing is that I think the leading point getter in the state this year could have 70-75 points. They have to be from the west and they have to be from Minot or Bismark because they should be getting five points agame against all the other teams in the west.

  14. Your history needs to go back more than 2 years. Moorhead had some pretty good teams in the mid 90's when Cullen was around.

Moorhead's Bantam A's won state last year which is a pretty good indication that the high school team will be strong the next couple of years.

If everyone stays like they claim next season should be the team to beat in the state. The group of next years seniors may be the best class of hockey players in the state. Too bad half of them are going to be cut, Moorhead should have a pretty healthy Junior Gold team next year.

That 1-1 tie was two years ago. Last year Moorhead beat South easily. Again your history needs to go back a few more years. Before Cullen took over, the Fargo schools dominated Moorhead. This is going back before my time, but you have to give credit to Cullen for starting a hockey powerhouse, Moorhead was not always good at hockey.

South vs. Moorhead in two years. That will be a game.
