Just found out that Welding had 5 points last night in the lost (4g, 1a)...possible mr. hockey candidate this year...he has good credentials with elite league hockey and select teams over the years...he also had like 27 points his soph year..although last year was kinda a down year for him....it is a pretty good start to a year tho.
Let's not get too excited over one game. If you would have picked Welding out before this game and used this as an arguement then I could see it being ok. But just throwing this out there after one game may be a little risky.

I didn't mean the coaches taught the players to use the stick. They learned from playing against each other. I also am not saying that these were penalty hooking/slashing at least at the time, but now if it is going to be more aggressively called it could be. I think in the east it was taught to use their feet and skate, but along with it came a little clutch and grab. In the west I think a more physical game was taught (more checking) but with that came use of elbows/crosschecks. This is what I meant, sorry for the confusion. As for everybody saying that east teams are better. They have been, and probably will be for quite some time. For the most part they have many more players to choose from that tryout for the team, which means that have more kids pushing each other for the spots. Another thing I know for Grand Forks at least, they have more chances to get on the ice. I think there is 17 outdoor rinks or something like that in the area, and when there is ice there are kids out there. Another thing is that they play MN teams which is a little higher quality opponents which forces a team to get better or keep losing. West teams do not have that option. I do think the gap has narrowed a little in the last few years, but the west still has a long way to go. Just my $.02
The gap has remaind the same. Look at the first round of the State tournament. That's where it counts.

I don't know if #34 for Fargo South has been mentioned enough on here. That would be Sean Deichert for those of you don't remember him from last season. All of us hockey fans should know this, goalies can steal games. He will steal a few games this year.
-
Top four teams in the east next year.
1. South, deepest team in the state at the forward position, Danny Wurden will anchor a young but talented group of defensemen, and Deichert will be the best goalie the state has seen since Kasey Moreland.
2. Red River, the Hulk was pretty much everything to this team, but once they figure how to win w/o him, they will be tough again.
3. Grafton, three words - Hills, Anderson, Miller. They better put up some gauddy numbers.
4. Central, Josh Ness got great experience last year and will steal a couple wins up at the Purpur.
-
A huge hit to Red River next season will be losing Bry as the assistant coach. Hands down the best assistant coach in the state. Throughout the post-season it looked as if he was making all critical decisions on the bench as Malm just looked on.

Does anyone know Matt Moreland's plan for next season?

When you do say it every year its bound to come true. Like last year.
It was said the year before last year. It didn't come true. It also "brought a smile to my face remembering" that line that year.
It'll probably be said again this year. Probably won't come true.
I'm pretty sure people from Fargo don't say that every year. In '04 they knew they wouldn't win, in '05 they thought they would, and in '06 they thought they would. 1 for 2, that's not bad.

Their freshman goalie isn't playing. Ruden, a senior has played the most lately and Berenson said he's the starter this weekend.
Jeez, thanks for the heads up.
-
Michigan has a very young goalie. Hopefully the Ralph will be rock'in and never let him get comfortable.

If my memory serves me correctly, and it usually does, JackMickelson replied to your post by saying "It will be different." In my eyes that seems to be a prediction that Fargo South will win and not a GF school. And he was right. Great prediction.
Thanks guys, I did make that prediction and that prediction did come out to be true. BringDeanBack, this was nothing personal.

South choked, something they are pretty good at. Every year all we hear is South South South. Every year in the championhip, it is Grand Forks, Grand Forks, Grand Forks. This year will be no different.
Well, BringDeanBack, I guess they proved you very wrong this year. Nice prediction though.

What will the story lines be this year? Probably another all Grand Forks final, because simply put....Grand Forks dominates highschool hockey.
Nice call, buddy.

4-3 RR w/ about a minute left!!!
-
I really love our passion this year. Every player seems to want to win every game by as much as they possibly can. That's something I haven't seen in awhile from a Sioux Women's Team.
-
Make that double overtime.
-
5-3 RR about 6 minutes left in regulation.
-
3-1 RR in the second.
-
Now 1-1 w/ about 5 minutes left in the first.
-
Jamestown up 1-0 early in the first.

Just so there is no confusion on cross bracketing this year at the EDC and WDA tournaments, here is a link to show everyone how it is done.

I've noticed that Jake Marto hasn't dressed the last couple games with Omaha. Does anyone have any info on this?

Sean Deichert is off to a great start and he probably had a lot better junior year campaign, in relation to Everson. Just a thought...
