  1. Wait wait wait a second....Abrahamson isn't even a top 3 finalist for Sr. Athlete of the year? That has to be a joke right?
  2. Not intending to ruffle feathers here but honestly wondering how these large school co-ops have gotten so out of control in girls hockey. Are girls hockey numbers so poor in WF that 2 of the largest schools in the state have to co-op to field a team? Same goes for GF, FN+FS and BHS+Legacy. Is it more so about being competitive or strictly about being able to even field a team if they don't co-op? WFS+WF combined is nearly 11x the enrollment of DL(smallest team), GFRR+GFC combined is 6x, North and South combined is about 8x and BHS+Legacy is about 10x. Their rosters don't seem to be busting at the seams, so I'm leaning toward the co-ops being needed just to field teams but that just seems crazy to me figuring how large these schools are and being in a pretty strong hockey state.
  3. I think for Dickinson it was 2001
  4. Exciting for their team and exciting for their community. I hope this gives their hockey program a nice boost for the future!
  5. Off topic a little bit, but seeing all the EDC logos made me think about which hockey team has the best mascot name, logo, and jersey combo in the state. My bids would be 1. Rough Riders 2. Spoilers 3. Demons 4. Coyotes 5. Spartans If not for being retired, I would have chosen Satans (RIP) as my #1 or #2.
  6. WF and DL seem to match up tight but slight edge to WF = WF 3-1 WFS seems to play up and down to their competition but ultimately are the better team = WFS 4-2 RR has shown some signs of weakness, but their forwards are their strong spot, and goaltending and defending is South's weak spot so I dont see an upset here = RR 5-2 North has shown they can do it so I think they'll want it more and will do it again today = North 4-3 Bott plays hard and has a few play makers but Mandan has a strong 1st line to match them and a top tier tendy = Mandan 5-2 Willy won't be able to beat Jamestown 3 times = Jamestown 4-3 Century seems to match up really well against the Midgets = CHS 6-2 Minot's top line can make things happen but depth trumps that in big games = Legacy 5-3
  7. daaaaayyyyyyyumm. I thought Mandan would win this one handily.
  8. Can't argue any of these predictions.
  9. Although it may not qualify as a "let down" I'd argue their embarrassing 2-8 loss to EGF exposed their rare weaknesses pretty clearly. That has to be one of the worst losses RR has been handed in many many years.
  10. Because they dominate year after year and having new/different teams in the mix from time to time is good for the growth of hockey in the state IMO.
  11. What did Skarperud have to say? I was surprised DL hung in there as well as they did especially since they were down one of their few solid forwards. SR Dayton Lunak broke his ankle in practice this week... If I would have guessed DL was going to keep that game close, I would have guessed a low scoring game where the DL goalie Forsberg stood on his head, but this time it was from their depleted offense potting goals. So was it an overlooked game mixed with desperation effort from DL, or another sign of rare weakness from RR that we have seen flashes of this year?
  12. As much as I don't want to see a 1-2 GF showing from the EDC, I think I'd prefer that this year to ensure better chances for the 1-2 seeds from the West at State. If say Legacy and Century are the 1-2, it might suck to have a 1st round game against a GF team... With that said, I'll be rooting for North and Legacy from here on out.
  13. How about north and south like youth hockey.
  14. North 4-3 South 5-3 Central 6-2 RR 4-1
  15. Abrahamson over/under goals for tonight is set at 3.5 Abrahamson over/under points for tonight is set at 5.5 I'm taking the over on both
  16. I sure hope that doesn't happen. Plenty of teams around the state have had brutal season after brutal season but stuck around. Schedule some games with Watford, Sidney, Wahp etc. to get more winnable games on the schedule. They will be fine especially with the pretty solid bismarck youth numbers.
  17. I'm probably 1 of very few who's played a varsity hockey game in every city in the state. My 9th and 10th grade years were in the West and my 11th and 12th grade years were in the East. Those long-haul games to opposite corners of the state always sucked and did take a toll on us whether we wanted to admit it or not. The hosts of WDA and EDC always seemed to fair the best, and in most cases they were probably already the best teams but as we all know, in the crazy game of hockey any little edge can make a difference in big games. It would be nice to see state in Minot or Bismarck someday but maybe that won't be a feasible option until someone like Minot State or UMary builds a nice big new rink with 3,000+ capacity.
  18. Dang okay, well that might answer my question right there. I'm surprised the Maysa doesn't hold more than that...
  19. Not to mention the west also already having the disadvantage of traveling further for the state games whether it's in Fargo or Forks. So having 6 games in 10 days instead of 5 is just burying their chances that much more. Tradition and overall skill level aside, it never seems to help when you have some teams from the west traveling to Minot or Bis to play 3 games in 3 days to turn around and travel across the state to play 3 more in 3 days in Fargo or GF. Especially when you're playing against some East teams who haven't had to leave their backyard for any EDC or state games whatsoever. Maybe it wouldn't make much of a difference but I certainly don't think it would hurt to mix it up one of these years. As awesome as it is for the kids to play at the Ralph or even at Scheels, I wonder how things went with State being in Minot last year for girls? That's a pretty awesome rink as well. I wonder if that will ever be in the cards for the boys.
  20. The 10th leading scorer in the state is averaging 1 point per game. 19 points in 19 games. Crazy
  21. Thanks for sharing this. It did seem like the scoring leaders total points were all relatively low outside of those 2 DL girls, so your leg work confirms it. I wrote it off as girls hockey just scoring less than boys but apparently this is just a goalie dominated season. Neat
  22. Well.....that's quite odd
  23. I hadn't even heard of this. I might be interested but I'll have to check it out first.
  24. Sure looks that way! Does anyone know of any teams dealing with an injury bug right now or missing any star players due to injury? It seems like things could be pretty tight in the WDA and certainly are tight in the EDC where a few missing guys could make a big difference. Just was curious
  25. This year is exciting to me because the EDC could honestly be taken by any of probably 6 teams. The GF teams have shown some weakness that they typically haven't shown in recent years which opens the door for anything to happen. Also, it appears the West has a good shot to take 1 maybe even 2 games in the opening round at state, so it's exciting knowing there's a much higher probability of seeing a new mix in the running! It feels like we're at least getting close to back on track from that span of 2014-2018 when the west won back to back titles (minot and BHS) then continued with having a west team in the championship game 3 years in a row after that. Say what you want about the Legacy launch, but it appears on paper that disrupted the momentum and has taken a long time to catch back up. Ultimately in the long run it appears it was great for Bismarck and the entire state but just took longer than expected to regain. 3 steps back and 3 going forward soon to be 4.
