  1. This is a big get for the Sioux. I figured that it was fitting to start a thread as this might be a hot topic for a little while. I would say that our 2010 recruiting class is starting off with a bang. Welcome to UND Nick.

  2. I don't understand!! I mean he is a senior and he is a pretty good hockey player. Shouldn't he be able to play? and who did he get beat out by?

If those aren't rhetorical questions, I will answer them. You have to earn playing time whether you are a freshman or a senior. It's always been that way in 99.9 percent of situations at UND. Apparently guys like Miller, Martens and Forney among others have earned their playing time more than he has. There have been many seniors in the past that didn't get to play (Brandt, Foyt, Fillion among others in recent years).

  3. The difference between this owner and the previous owner is that you have to be 21 to drink there because they actually card people now. The food is better than it used to be as well.

  4. The thing is they don't play an easy schedule. I will say that some of the games are cakewalks, however, they do play college teams, all star teams, international teams and many other tough opponents. They dominated Crookston for all of Saturday's game. It was a slaughter. They are just a really good team. Toews is definitely the best player on the team, even without looking at the stats.

  5. I was at the Shattuck game in Crookston last night. Toews was definitely the best player on the ice. Etem showed flashes although he was playing against men that were somewhere between 6 and 8 years older than he is, so he definitely was at a disadvantage as far as strength goes. Carle and Kostolansky stuck out on D. Nice skating ability. Overall Shattuck looked excellent.

  6. Ignore MacWilliam and instead focus on his younger D partner, Dylan Olsen. While your at it make sure Joe Colborne doesn't do anything to compromise his NCAA eligibility.

Please in the future stick to the two or three best players on a Tier II Junior team. MacWilliam doesn't have the foot speed to play in the WCHA.. He's probably the 5 or 6th defencemen on this team.

edit: Looks like Colborne is commited to Denver. Get Olsen before he goes to the WHL.

We are one of MacWilliam's final two so, even if I ignore him, Hak and crew haven't been. That is from a very reputable source.

  7. As I remember Soley was mentioned quite a while ago in a thread on this site. However I haven't heard that we have shown interest in either Soley or Condon. I would think that we are completely full at forward for next year and I think that we have some other targets for 09 so I don't know that it is likely that we would end up with either of them. As for Meland, he has been getting some interest from D1 programs already. Most of them out east. Don't know about LaDouceur.

  8. It would be fun to continue to branch out to the east as far as recruiting goes. If I remember right, Malone played out east for a prep school. Cichy played for the Jr. Bruins for most of last year. Maybe he made a few friends on that team and impacted their decisions. I know absolutely nothing about Henrion, but he is pretty far up on Heisenberg's list for 2009 in the east. Hopefully it is him. Has anyone heard anything else about the recruit that was here for the Manitoba exhibition?

  9. Sorry if this has been mentioned prior:

Shannon Larson of Grand Forks, ND is the daughter of Van & Dee Larson. Van is the guy with the huge camera photographing MANY MANY student athletes....he also has a suite at the ralph (the ones with the green lights) Him and his wife, Dee can usually be seen following the Sioux around painted like Kiss band members...except in green of course! He lost his daughter Shannon on Sept 8th in AZ due to heat exhaustion. Van and his entire family rarely miss a Sioux Hockey game...even if they have to put many miles on. Shannon was also a life long fan of the Sioux as well. She was a beautiful young person and will be missed! Please say a prayer for the family...

I knew Shannon rather well and became friends with her when my sister worked with her for a period of time. I had lost contact with her for the last year or so but still considered her a friend. She was always such a happy person and a fun person to be around as she could cheer me up just by being around her. She had a marvelous energy about her. I will miss her greatly and send my condolences to her parents and siblings. RIP Shannon, you will be greatly missed by so very many.
