  1. It was basically the same cliches as usual. He said that for a first game we didn't do too bad. Offense needs some work but that was expected. He basically said what you would expect a coach to say after an average game.

  2. I thought that we played a good first half. But our pass coverage is horrible, especially deep. That has been our achilles heel of our team ever since we won in '01. I realize there isn't really a shutdown corner in d2 but we have to be able to cover better than this. Thank you for letting me rant. Now back to the regularly scheduled posts.

  3. On the USHL website the Futures draft results are posted. Among those taken were Chris Vandevelde went fourth to, who else, Lincoln, Jon Ammerman went 14th to Tri-City, and Red River d-man Jake Vigen went 22nd to Indiana. Some other intriguing names included.

  4. I don't know if I was watching the same game or the same Hoffschneider, but he couldn't cover anything IMO. He always looked lost, was turning in circles, and couldn't keep up with people. He was just plain bad. If he is our best corner or one of our starters, we are in trouble this year.

  5. I watched both games today. The players that I noticed most were: Suter, Jack Johnson (he looks like the real deal IMO), Dan Fritsche, A.J. Thelen, Matt Nickerson, Ryan Callahan, Paul Stastny, Pineault and Robbie Earl. I also sat a few seats down from Ray Bourque for a period. Then he went up to Ralph's suite for the rest of the game. Pretty good action, more so in the first game.

  6. We have many good players coming in '05.

Players that have at least given a verbal for that year are:

Taylor Chorney-Playing at Shattuck this coming year

Ryan Duncan-Graduated from Shattuck. Playing for Salmon Arm this year.

Brad Miller-Graduated from Shattuck. Playing for Green Bay this year.

Brian Lee-Senior to be at Moorhead High

Chris Vandevelde-Senior to be at Moorhead

T.J. Oshie-Senior to be at Warroad

Zach Jones-National Team Developmental Program Standout defenseman.

I probably forgot one or two.

We also sound like we could get Jonathan Toews, who is the best '88 born player in North America. We might have a rough year in '05 but nothing to be concerned about really.

  7. I saw that Julian Marcuzzi signed with Denver. Marcuzzi is an 87 birthdate that plays for Salmon Arm that apparently the Sioux recruited to some degree as we were one of his final three choices. I think I remember someone saying that Minnesota was recruiting him pretty hard. Just an FYI.

  8. Speaking of the water bottle incident, does anyone know where I can get a copy of that on video along with the Jim Archibald one where he is running on the cement in his skates in the beer garden (is that the same game??). Another couple that I would like a copy of is the last game at the old ralph when Andy Schneider beat the s**t out of the poor Manitoba guy, and then the Commodore fight with Alex Brooks of Wisconsin when Commie shattered Brooks' nose. I will pay $$.

  9. i agree. genoway is a great talent. he didn't get the accolades that bochenski and parise did, but their numbers were in another league (amongst the hobey high numbers). i think genoway will center the first line on starting night at the ralph. i think spirko's size and college inexperience will take a little adjustment (the first weekend anyways).

    1-Murray - Genoway - Bochenski

    2-Zajac - Stafford - Porter

    3-Prpich - McMahon - Fylling

    4-Kaip - Spirko - Massen

with 2 and 3 interchangable depending on when the opposing team's first line will play.

let's hope that all line adjustments will be made early and all lines will fire every night unlike a couple of years ago when lines were still being shuffled going into the ncaa's before that humiliating loss to ferris state. i hope massen can turn up his game to the levelof his sophomore year. this should be an incredible team this year with many highlights from many players.

Zajac is a center so he would be center on the second line and Stafford on the left side if that line happened because Stafford is a left wing. Spirko wouldn't be a center on the fourth line but Kaip is a natural center so that would change around.

Here is how I think the lines will be

    1-Murray-Zajac-Bochenski

    2-Stafford-Genoway-Fylling

    3-Prpich-McMahon-Porter

    4-Spirko-Kaip-Massen/Fabian

However Murray could centerBochenski and Stafford on the first line as Murray has played center at the Kings prospect camp and they project him as a center (he has also played center before I believe). That would move Zajac down to centering the second line with Genoway moving to the left side.

    D-Men

    1-Jones-Greene

    2-Schneider-Radke

    3-Smaby-Fuher

    4-Bina-Marvin/Foyt

  10. The d man corps in 05 is going to scary good with the additions of Chorney, Lee and now Zach Jones :) . Great job by Hakstol landing another great recruit and to Jones for earning a scholarship to an elite hockey institution.

  11. :D What makes so many of you think that Red River will even make it to State? They better have a hell of a good young class coming in, because they have nothing returning. I am a RR grad and hope they do well but they lost their goalie and their best players and they weren't even deep last year. Let me know if I am missing something.
  12. Ziegelman is leaving in order to get more playing time. He came here because his dream was to wear the green but he realizes that for the forseeable future he is the 3rd or 4th option on the goaltenders chart.

  13. Hopfully Gifford, Jones, Ammerman, Hardwick......

Hopefully these guys are on UND's radar.

    Tysen Dowzak

    Kyle Okposo

    Mike Carmen

    Erik Johnson

    Trent Palm

Who do Carmen, Johnson, and Palm play for? A little info would be great. Also, what about Jonathan Toews? He scored 134 points as a soph at Shattuck (second on team to Duncan), plus he is six feet and may have another growth spurt. He should be awesome.

  14. Unlikely. I stopped hating the Sioux when Blake left. Would any of you consider saying that about the Gophers now that Hauser is gone?

No. I hate the Gophers no matter who plays for them. Dagwood Don is enough reason to hate the Goofs in and of itself. Not even going to mention how much everyone (even teammates, most likely) hate Vanek.
