  1. Wasn't sure where to put this but just decided to put it in here. Anyways have you guys heard anything about Chris Chelios originally being committed here and then asking out because James Patrick signed here?

The way i understood it, Chelios committed on his visit here. However, he still wanted to take a visit to Wisconsin and Gino told him that if he was going to take that visit then Gino would not take the commitment. Chelios went on the visit and that was that.

  2. I was in class today and someone mentioned a few South St. Paul players that had committed to play at UND starting next year. Has anyone heard about this? I am not sure if she knew exactly what I meant when I asked if they had committed.

  3. Central is going to be tough to beat this year. I don't see any other team winning state. I think that Central will lose quite a bit of talent after this year with the seniors that they have as well as Luke Johnson possibly going to Lincoln to play juniors (just my guess on Johnson). Should be an exciting hockey season.

  4. When he played for Red River as an 8th grader, I was thinking that he would play high school hockey through his sophomore year and then go juniors. Based on what I see of his development as a player over the past 2 years and his physical growth as well, I still believe that he probably should play juniors next year. No inside info in my guess though.

  5. Your point may be entirely valid and I'm not going to argue that kids are very likely to choose a school other than where their dad coaches, but I'd like to point out that both Ben and Patrick Eaves committed to BC before Mike was hired at Wisconsin. Also, Gabe Guentzel wasn't offered the opportunity to play for Minnesota, even as a walk-on. As for Serratore... Frank and Tom are his uncles, his dad Tim never made it out of the NAHL.

Yay! What I'd like to know is if he's going to transfer schools and move to central Minnesota or if he's going to remain in Grand Forks?

He will be staying in Grand Forks for the time being from what I have heard.

  6. I am pretty sure that the ship had sailed by now on getting Ebert to come here, but seeing that he went 17th in the OHL draft it would seem that he won't be playing college hockey. Has anyone heard anything regarding him and any chance of playing college hockey lately?

  7. On Brad Schlossman's twitter, it says that he believes that the commitment that the women's team got is Michelle Karvinen, one of the leading scorers on the Finnish Olympic team this year. She is 20 so I am guessing that she will be coming in 2010. I googled her and found that she is facebook friends with fighting sioux women's hockey so that would seem like a bit of confirmation of her commitment.

  8. Thanks for the update. Isn't there a goalie from Warroad coming in? Maybe that isn't official yet.

She won't be coming until 2011. I know that there is another goalie that will be coming in next year but I don't recall her name.

  9. You don't think he's number 6 on the chart right now? Interesting. Who is?

I don't know if he is number 6. To me he isn't but that is just me. He has really improved from last year. As far as I am concerned, you can never have too many good defensemen in case injuries happen such as this year.

  10. I would be surprised if Blood were around for his senior year. IMO he is far and away our number one d man with Genoway out of the lineup and keeps getting better. I think he will be around next year but definitely not the year after.

  11. That's a pretty big deal, and a big blow to CC. The Forum indicates he's accelerating, which is very unusual for UND.

The last Sioux recruit to have accelerated was Toews. Hopefully St. Clair can be half the player that Jonathan was while he played here. Either way, a very exciting pickup. I wonder what the details as to the reason for this are? I don't believe Guentzel would have played a part in recruiting him to CC as he was at The U of M when St. Clair committed. As I recall, St. Clair was either 14 or had just turned 15 when he committed so maybe he was another one where he made the decision and changed his mind as he matured.

  12. Farrell doesn't play for the prep team as far as I could tell. The shots after two periods were 38-4 in facor of Shattuck. The score was 10-0. So, in short, that would be a no to the goalie getting tested. I would say two or three of the shots were point shots without screens that went into the S on his jersey. I just looked through all of the Shattuck rosters and didn't see Farrell on any of them. Does anyone know what team he plays for? I figured that it was the U16 team but that isn't the case as far as the roster says.
