Pretty sad when playing in the finest hockey facility in the land in front of the most dedicated fan base in all of college hockey (at home and on the road) ain't cuttin' it.
Totally agree. But on the flip side, OMac and Perron were not the kind of players that used to define UND. Boisvert will be missed...those other two guys not so much.
Advice to UND. Take a lesson from Western Michigan and Sioux teams of the past. Stop recruiting spit weasels. We just lost a couple of those. We need size and muscle in the college game.
The problem I have with the non-conference schedule is that it's at the beginning of the season. This disadvantages teams with new players who improve drastically as the season goes on.
Light years? ASU beat Denver 3 of 4 during the season, including both games on Denver home ice. Let's see, UND beat Boston U, Minn State, Providence, Denver and Western Michigan during the season. There's that. And I don't believe the Big Ten played anyone from the NCHC during the season other than in the Great Lakes Invitational. Yeah, I'm not sold on the PW formulation. College Hockey can do better.
So the mighty vaunted Big Ten went 0 for 3 yesterday, and will likely go 0 for 4 after Penn State get taken down later today. Maybe the PW strength of schedule needs a reevaluation. Sending just two NCHC teams to the nationals looks rather flimsy right now.
Hmm...four and half years under Montgomery, yet he turned the DU ship around and proved to be possibly the best recruiter in the land. I'm throwing my hat in the ring for Dane. The players like playing for him and have confidence in him (meaning they won't bail) is all I need to know.
