This is a perfect weekend for a SWEEP. We got our mid-season break hangover out of the way and now it is time to unleash on the Mavericks!!

Does the NFL have anything similar to the NCAA's targeting rule? If they want to cut down on major injuries at all levels then there should be some continuity on all levels.

A 4-3 that can get consistent pressure with 4 DL is the most dominant way to play defense. Average teams can win with that formula. Look at the NYG team that beat the undefeated Patriots team. If you can drop 7 and still pressure the qb you have a huge advantage.
Yes, it CAN get consistent pressure with 4 DL, but if you don't have the guys to do it, then your defense is going to suck. Like I said, recruiting is huge. You can win with any defense as long as you have the right players.

It doesn't matter if we employ a 3-4 or 4-3 defense, both have its strengths and its weaknesses. This is ALL about recruiting. If we want a successful 3-4, we NEED size up front with quick backers that can cover AND hit (think of the great Steelers, Ravens defenses). I'm not sure how well Bubba uses wrinkles in his defense to disguise coverage, overcome mismatches, etc. though.

Coming from someone who is neither a Eagle/Seahawk/Bison fan, this should have absolutely been a penalty. It was an unnecessary and dirty play by Clowney. This has nothing to do with Wentz's "injury prone-ness", as most QBs, let alone RBs and WRs would have been out of the game after this ridiculously cheap hit. If this were Rodgers or Brady, the guy would have been ejected!! I feel for the guy. Get well soon Carson.

In search of 4 tickets, preferably lower bowl for the 1/11 game vs Nebraska-Omaha. Thanks!

I love that the team has adopted a mantra of "who cares what the poll says, we have work to do". This is expected of a quality ND hockey team! Excited for the 2nd half of the season!
-
MT State vs NDSU will be a great game. I expect it to be higher scoring than the last bison game. I will predict a lot of rushing yards for both teams. The difference maker will be a couple bison passes off play action that will go for big gains or scores. NDSU 27 MT State 16

I will be missing watching and following UND hockey these next few weeks. A little surprised of how much I look forward to the games. Gives this old guy something to do.
I hope and expect we pick up where we left off in a few weeks!
Yes it is nice to see them playing so well again! We all have something to look forward to and expectations are high! Happy Holidays to everyone

Does Midget have some alternative meaning? Or why was it ever viewed as a good name for a sports team?
It wasn't really ever chosen from a list of names, but was adopted naturally over time. From what I recall, a radio announcer back in the day was working a DHS vs Minot HS football game. Minot's team was substantially bigger than DHS, who didn't have a nickname at the time. The announcer said something along the lines of "Minot's team makes Dickinson look like a team of midgets" and Dickinson upset them. They were known for a while as the Mighty Midgets, then became the Midgets. These were before the politically correct days, of course.

Bubba just doesn’t seem like a real high energy guy
I have listened to him give multiple talks at coaching clinics. Nice guy, but doesn't really get you fired up.

As a DHS grad, I took pride in being a Midget and we never knew or meant it to be a derogatory term, instead believing it was a feeling of power, strength, adversity, and tradition.

Hard to know, but outside of the Dartmouth game, they are winning the games on their schedule. We have played Denver and Minnesota State and are 1-1-2 against them, so who is to say until they actually play somebody. We have heard the same thing about eastern teams before, and then they beat us at tournament time, like Yale did a couple times.
That's very true. I just don't trust the powderpuff scheduling by some of these other teams. I'm sure it's not exactly their fault that other teams in their conferences aren't very good, but we will find out soon enough!
-
You guys are being ridiculous. NDSU could definitely support an FBS program. Over Thanksgiving, my family members actually discussed this and argued the logistics of the situation. I proposed that if NDSU joins a conference like the MWC or MAC, replaces the FargoDome and builds a bigger football stadium that holds maybe 25-30K, people would flock to go to games. They could schedule TV rights similar to what Notre Dame does and surrounding states would watch it. App St and Georgia So doesn't have nearly the fanbase that NDSU does, and this is coming from a UND graduate student.
The only issue I see would be IS FOOTBALL THE ONLY SPORT THAT IS WORTH GOING FBS AT NDSU?

Does anyone else feel that Cornell is massively overrated? Their most impressive win is a 3-1 final over Harvard, with a loss to Dartmouth the next night.

I think tonight will be a total obliteration similar to last week
6-1 UND
Saturday may be a little closer, I'll call it 4-2 UND

I am looking forward to seeing what changes Armacost brings to the university. He seems like a very smart guy (MIT graduate) and has a lot of experience with research and budget issues. Hopefully he can expand our aerospace department and bring new unity to the GFAFB. Congrats, Uncle Andy!

I don't believe Bubba is quite the problem, but he is an easy scapegoat for their issues. I personally like the guy and believe he is a good coach. It all comes down to recruiting, and that requires money and facilities. If a recruit were to choose between NDSU and UND, not even taking past success into account, NDSU wins by a mile. UND has to figure out a way to secure more donor money/fundraise and improve facilities, or else we will be stuck in the middle for many years to come.
