He said on The Pipeline Show last month that his arrival is still up in the air, but as of now, it’s a 2019 arrival. I assume he is the contingency plan if Colton Poolman leaves early.

He doesn’t turn 18 until June, so he’d be one of the youngest players in college hockey if he comes in the fall. I will say he sounds very mature for his age though.

Huh I guess I stand corrected. I wonder if he'll only be on campus for two seasons or when he does come, since he'll already have played a year drafted

Docker will be asked to wait another year.

I don’t think they can ask a 2nd round pick to go back and play a third year in the AJHL and I don’t think they should either. The second a kid gets drafted the clock starts running on when he’ll be signed, so they may as well get him to campus as soon as possible

Poolman and Wolanin have got to be the best D-pair in the country.

I'd agree with that. Poolman doesn't seem to get the credit he deserves outside of ND, couldn't believe he was only an all NCHC honorable mention. Guys got a rock solid defensive game to go along with almost 30 points on the season.

...and Jacob Bernard-Docker is named top defenseman in AJHL.

Bernard-Docker and Tychonick coming in the same class is ridiculous. Tychonick's probably a first rounder and JBD is likely a 2nd. They're both going to be fantastic

My depth chart for the 6th defenseman tonight would be Peski, Johnson, and then Rieger.

I hear a lot of what your saying and while I would put Peski ahead of Rieger too, I wouldn't do the same with Johnson. I actually think Casey's future with this team is at forward

May be able to play somewhere, but I would guess he would have to prove it in Junior hockey for a year or two.

Yeah I’d agree with that. I’m just saying I think he’s the first kid in awhile from ND to have that kind of potential

Only a sophomore, but the Greenway goalie was stellar last night.

I was thinking more guys who can be on campus in a year or 2 but I’ll have to check him out. Kaleb Johnson has gotta be another younger goalie to watch. Junior at GFC has played some fantastic hockey the last few years

  8. We've gotta be looking to add a goalie soon, right? Scheel will be on campus in the fall and after him there's nobody left in the pipeline. I know its not an urgent need, but I have to imagine the coaching staff would like to get somebody for the 2019-2020 season sooner rather than later

I still think Kawaguchi can be a Duncan-type player (obviously won't have Toews and Oshie on his line, though).

I don't think the Kawaguchi-Duncan comparison is quite accurate. Duncan was a much higher end player who had pretty much every tool to make the NHL except size. I think a better comparison would be Guch and Caggiula. Pretty similar caliber players and I would think Guch's career trajectory will probably mirror Caggiula's a lot more closely than Duncan's. So I agree Kawaguchi can be a great player, I just think it will take more time for him than it did for Duncan

  10. I think the biggest issue with the incoming class is that it just doesn't have a bonafide blue chip recruit at forward. The last 4 years we've had N. Schmaltz, Boeser, Jost, and Mismash all come in with a lot of fanfare and reputations as big scorers. This years class just doesn't seem to have that player. I would guess the coaching staff was expecting Hain to be that guy, but given his numbers with the U-18 team he may not be able to fill that role. I think that's what makes this seem like a bad class. Since we don't have that one stud of the group, these guys who would normally play more secondary roles are being expected to fill a role they weren't recruited to

Have you watched all of these guys extensively, or did you stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night?

Haha, haven't seen a lot of any of them I'm just basing it all off of stats mostly. I could be, and probably am, pretty wrong about all of them but this is just what I think from what I've heard and read

  12. Keane probably should not be playing D-1 hockey plain and simple. At the very least he doesn't belong in the NCHC or anything like it. Senden is better, but I'm not sure how much at this point. He's struggled mightily to score in the USHL and well he does have excellent defense/leadership abilities, I don't think that'll be enough to make up for his lack of offense. Hain will be solid, but could probably use another year of juniors. Huber is a bit more of a question mark, but I don't see him being anything more than a bottom 6 player for next year. Weatherby seems like the only one of the bunch who will be able to contribute right away (except maybe Hain), but I still don't see him putting up more than 10-15 points next year. Love our defensive recruits, but right now it looks like we're gonna have that same scoring problem next season...
