Have to remember I warrior was an unproven assett. Very athletic, but that didn't translate well for him at RB, it may or may not have translated well at WR. Next man up, hopefully some of these young guys are ready to go.

Next man up is right. I think many were just waiting to see Iwarri find the position that best suits his skill-set and have an impact this year in Bubba's system. Coming in, he was considered to be an immediate difference maker, thus the disappointment that he left before we could see his full potential. But, his departure provides an opportunity for someone else to show what they can do. I'm sure there are guys eager to make an impact in 2016.

I understand.  I was questioning his first sentence that says every program has deflections and than questioning at the end about recruiting the right kids every time one leaves.

In this case did Alex Reed producing lead to these two guys seeing the writing on the wall?

Some kids were considering other options before the holidays.  I guess we are now seeing action be put to words for various reasons.  I wish them be best at their next stop.  But, not so sure Reed's production facilitated these recent moves, but I hope he continues to produce and stay healthy. I recall reading Smith flashing a NDSU championship ring on his way to his official visit to GF while on the plane.  I personally had concerns about maturity after reading that. I am sure he is an overall good kid and his ability will be missed but your head has to be right also.

This is terrible news, way to young.  Proof that you never know when you go under for what looked to be a "simple" procedure.  RIP.

On the recruiting front,Und is simply not at the place to where they can lose any player, most notably a difference maker.   I've always thought losing a player before he arrives hurts less then losing a player that is here and has played.  We could assume players like chinn would of a been a hell of a player, but quite frankly, he hasn't played a down.  50/50 guess.   On the other hand,  losing a player that has played and is a vital ingredient hurts!  Grady was plugged in week 7 and he was a difference maker.  We witnessed his greatness.  Huge huge loss.  Rarely happens that a true freshman starts on the O line.  His accolades were well documented on the field.

As much as I want all the recruited athletes to come here , if they are really questioning on coming here,  or are already here and are debating about leaving, the best is probably for them to go.  No need for locker room cancer.  Und and bubba need players that are willing to give 100% dedication.

I agree wholeheartedly with you that losing players hurts in many ways. When I first commented on the topic of player departures ("defections"), I highlighted the need for the coaches to connect and re-connect with players that have already left it all on the field. That wasn't a slight against the coaches or players for that matter. But, just like in our personal lives it is good to cultivate and grow the relationship. Grady is a huge loss. Very huge.  But, to me, losing any kid that strapped on a helmet last year, is a huge loss because, by the end of the season chemistry was formed and the team developed an identity and trust among one another.

Some kids will leave and have left, but I wouldn't say that any of them have been a "cancer". "Cancerous" type players tend to stick around and cause chaos in the locker room/overstay their welcome and that doesn't appear to be the case with the kids that have departed so far.

I also agree that you can't miss what you never had so, to lose a recruit that hasn't played a down, is not too big a deal. Coaches leave schools for better offers so, I don't fault a kid for de-committing to be closer to home, go FBS, potential for more playing time, more scholly money, etc. I'm not going to pay his bills so, he doesn't owe me anything.

Still cant figure out who needs to apologize to gfhockey and why.

If anything, apologies should be made to Demon Taylor, Bryce Blair, John Santiago, Keaton Studsrud, et al or any other name that was speculated about in this thread that never had any intention of leaving.

I can get onboard with this too. If we as adults are going to discuss and post, let's agree to do it responsibly.

GFhockey didn't reveal anything. Ozzie82 did. GFhockey jumped on an assertion that someone else made and acted like he knew it the whole time -- just like he usually does. In the grand scheme of things it all really amounts to a hill of beans.  You might not be aware of GFHockey's past history on this site. Quite simply, the apology he's trolling for is not his to ask for.

I don't know GFhockey or his post long-term post history, but I also read where Ozzie82 was also unfairly taken to task for posting on this subject.  So, if you are saying Ozzie82 is due an apology, I agree 100% with that.

Then, why share 50% of the info in the first place?  What good does that do anybody other than to make you feel like you know stuff others don't.

Again, whether a poster shares 10% or 90%, that's up to them. If the rest of are unable to glean enough info from that, too bad. If we learn want we think we need to learn, then, good for us. But, if I or you take from it that someone is trying to grand stand and act as if they know something that others don't, who cares? Its not that big a deal. I don't. Its an entertainment and info share board. I don't feel dejected if the sun sets and I haven't gotten smarter about UND football and neither should anyone else. IMO

You gonna be OK?   Insinuating something is going to happen, based on credible info, but never saying what's going on is completely worthless.

We could all do that on here.  GF is a small town, not hard to hear info on the teams.

Yes, I am perfectly okay. Are you gonna be OK? Just because the guy didn't reveal his source or tell you all that you wanted to hear doesn't make him/her a bad person. I don't care how small GF is. No one that posts on here is obligated to share anything.

    Haven't got an apologies yet

If you are waiting for posters to apologize for insinuating that you were maliciously starting rumors without facts or for basically calling you a liar. It's probably not going to happen. That would take people admitting they were wrong for either attacking your character, questioning your integrity or that you simply had accurate information. This is a message board where people say what they want, while at the same time feel they have the right to tell you what you should and should not say. Those are the rules.

He's not the first or last great OL UND has landed. It sucks he left. Good luck to him. Time to move on to guys that are actually on the team.

Next man up is right; however, after watching him play, I think he could play on Sunday. Hope UND lands a kid with his athleticism to play OL.

This is what everyone must have been hinting at.  Tough blow.  Hope everything is OK for him.

Bingo.  It wasn't/isn't cool to drop names of players or sources; but I was hoping he'd come back.

In addition to the coaching situation, I'd like to get some opinions on who people expect to be big contributors next year as Redshirt Freshman.

Carl Engwall -  Lakeville kid. Lots of positive things said after he was recruited, not sure how he looked last season though.

Mason Bennett - Sounded like he was hurt most of last season. Anyone know what type of injury? I remember this being a pretty good recruit out of Canada.

Tim Dulin - I've only hear good things. Sounds like he has put in a lot of hard work and added some weight. Hopefully a go to guy for Studs.

Keelan Poole - Had't heard much about Keelan last year. I feel like this was a pretty good recruit to land, but I don't remember too many details.

Vashon Tucker - Didn't hear to much about him last year, but I remember that this was a nice recruit to land. Had some FBS offers.

Jade Lawrence - Heard he was a really good at Moorhead. Do we expect him to play much next season, or more so in a year or two.

Austin Gordon - Heard a lot of positive things about this kid from the past year. With a deep RB group, its hard to say how much he will see the field, so he'll have to make the most of limited time. I'm sure if he impresses the coaches, they will find a way to get him in the mix.

Also, with Colton Boas gone, who is projected to play Center?

I think Poole will be a good one before its all said and done. High motor impact player that loves to get after the QB but has speed to be highly effective in coverage.

Let's all just watch this video again (specifically the 1:47 mark until the end) & then ask ourselves if Bubba & his staff don't appreciate the players....

    http://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/und-football/3889465-und-football-big-sky-dumbfounded-fcs-playoff-picks

Just for clarity, how you might feel about me and how I think you feel about me can be two different things. No one said Bubba or his coaches don't factually appreciate the players.  I used "me" and "I" simply to illustrate a point. I/me am not one that Bubba should care about. I don't play for UND. Just want to make that perfectly clear.

Well If there is a chance they will come back after Christmas why even go down the road? What is the need to share that you know something, that you can't share, that might not happen.

I don't know if they will change their minds or not after the holidays (I personally hope they do) which I am entitled to my hopes. But to answer your question, the topic was already brought up; I simply commented, then chose to no longer comment. Period.

  14. 29 minutes ago, UND1983 said:

Then why did you bring it up?

I'm not the one that brought it up. It was already on the board so I commented on, as is my free will same as is yours. But I also chose to no further comment. Get it?

I'm sorry everyone. I should not have started this firestorm. I was wrong to do so.  I am not going to compound my mistake, however, by divulging anything further until the University announces it first.

I too will leave the topic alone for reasons previously mentioned. We will all know soon enough.

Very frustrating having people come on here saying this stuff yet not giving any names. I am sure there are players leaving and they will be missed but this is a fan forum where all it is fans speculating why not say some names. Or just send me a PM ;)

I didn't post the names because I am hoping the players have a change of heart and return after the holidays. That's my personal reason for not posting. Maybe that's why the staff hasn't made it public either, but I am just guessing on that one.

Don't let the NCAA hear that, they'll bombard you with evidence to the contrary. :p

But seriously, this is a consequence of the "hockey-only" attitude by many people in Grand Forks and in the region as a whole. Kids today are better informed than previous generations and when they hear negative comments about non-hockey programs or sense an attitude of "who cares about FB, hockey is all that matters, blah, blah, blah", it might make them think "Why bother working my butt off if nobody cares?".

I trust the coaching staff to respond to this and adjust accordingly, but a stronger commitment from the administration (that means YOU Faison and whomever gets hired to replace Kelley) and the UND fan base in Grand Forks and the surrounding areas.

Yes, the NCAA as whole may disagree with me as they deposit multi-million dollar checks from TV revenue, ticket sales and merchandise. Ha ha

Could someone please give a final clarification on this. Is there actually another defections or is there not. I'm hearing on the one had we need more O-lineman purely for depth and competition. On the other hand I am hearing we need to fill spots due to a probable defections.

Could someone please clear this up. Posting potential rumors, and beating around the bush, and acting admirable about knowing something but not wanting to share it only creates more confusion, more rumors, and scares fans that are excited about the direction of this team.

I too heard from reliable sources there are kids leaving or have left the program as of today. But, I, like others, are waiting for UND to acknowledge it. It's only proper, but I will say the names I am hearing are going to be missed. We just have to let the coaching staff take the lead on this. After a pretty good run in 2015, I was afraid this would happen.

I will say this though, and its just my 2 cents that don't matter to anyone important; the staff should take the time to reconnect with its current roster and remind them they are appreciated for what they did in 2015. I am hearing some kids feel unappreciated while others just have other goals in life that are competing with football (and school).

Getting a kid to commit is great, but building relationships with kids already in your program goes a long way toward recruiting other good kids. I get the sense from reading previous posts that the goal at UND is to keep getting better as a program by bringing in better talent, which from a business standpoint, makes perfect sense.  But, I also think if you don't continue to build a relationship with those that have already let blood, sweat and tears for you...defections will continue to happen. And I think some of the kids are feeling that way according to the rumor mill.  On the flip side, the kids need to know and understand that college football is a business.

  19. We seem to have some knowledgeable fans on this site (I'm not being sarcastic).  Does anyone know if an FCS school/team can petition the NCAA to participate in a bowl game against a FBS school? I just found out today that teams with 5 wins and 7 loses can play in a bowl game at the FBS level. Missouri released a press statement saying they would not accept or seek a bowl bid after going 5-7 this year. NCAA anticipates 2-5 FBS teams with 5 wins will play in a bowl game this year.

  20. Seriously? Are you crazy? SDSU wins they get a top 8 seed. They lose they go to Montana. Can you really be that dumb? And early you said we lost to avoid UND? Are you 12?  SDSU sat in an airport from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday. Arrived in Peoria close to 11 p.m. and on Saturday morning got on a bus at 8 a.m. only to sit behind an accident and not arrive in Wacomb till 1 p.m. SDSU wanted to delay the start to 4 p.m., WIU fought it and got their way; the game started at 2:45 pm. SDSU looked flat the entire game. We could not sustain any energy. It had nothing to do with UND or WIU. The winter storm absolutely slaughtered us and WIU refusing to hold off the start to a reasonable 4 pm. hurt, bad.

SDSU will beat UM, in Missoula. We don't really have a big problem curb stomping BSC schools (see SUU, MSU, UNA). Yes, we allowed UM to come back in our FIRST playoff game against UM in 2009. That was 2009, our first time in they playoffs against a very talented UM team. We are a very different program, so are they. Yes, WIU beating us was bigger than UND beating PSU. Remember, PSU also lost to that powerhouse UNC.

That said, UND should have been in prior to WIU or EIU. I don't really understand the WIU thing. They seemed to have foreknowledge that they were in. EIU got in because the chair of the committee is from Tennessee Tech, an OVC school. It is the same reason the MVFC were put into the same bracket. FCS is becoming D2. I mentioned it on AGS and I'll say it here, this is the beginning of the end of the Dakota schools being in FCS. It is the NCC and D2 all over again.

Hey Jacksfan29...curb stomping???  "SDSU will be UM, in Missoula."
