star2city Posted October 23, 2007 Author Share Posted October 23, 2007 Bryant accepts invitation to join DI Northeast Conference Bryant currently competes in Division II. It is in the first year of a five-year transition period for full Division I membership. Full membership, including eligibility for Division I championships, will take effect September 2012. "They are an excellent fit for the NEC, and we look forward to them joining us in the fall of 2012," NEC commissioner Brenda Weare said in a statement. The university said it expects to play a Division I schedule in 2008-09. Bryant gets into the NEC over NJIT, which is three years ahead of Bryant in the transition. NJIT's options are not looking great. By adding Bryant, the NEC will gain autobids in a number of sports including men's and women's lax. Bryant's head Lax coach is the former Duke men's coach, and Bryant has intentions of being a power. Bryant also has a rapidly growing endowment, which is fueling athletic scholarship expansion and academic enhancement at the 3200 student school.
