SiouxMD
ESPN.com 10/18/2005 The Dakotas are not exactly what you would call football powerhouses. Still, the University of North Dakota is the No. two ranked Division II football program in the country. Head coach Dale Lennon has spent the last seven years building a national power. However, over 50 of the players on the Fighting Sioux roster are from outside of South Dakota and North Dakota -- most are from Wisconsin and Minnesota. Needless to say, the pickings are slim between the two Dakotas even for Division II talent, let alone Division I-A. Both states have Division I-AA programs in North Dakota State and South Dakota State, but the University of North Dakota seems to get the most national attention. Maybe that means they're ready for the jump to Division I-AA soon. I'm sure those to the south will love this. BTW, to our southern neighbors...the national attention comment mentions nothing about the logo controversy...only football. (Thought I would head this argument off at the pass...) And it doesn't mention hockey either.

Bison Pride
Looks like the point of this one paragraph article is to say there is no high school football talent in North Dakota whatsoever, and they have to recruit exclusively in other states. Yea that's a great endorsement. I found a link to that story on the ESPN NDSU football homepage at http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/clubhouse?teamId=2449. The article quoted above is listed in the features section where it says, "Tom Luginbill thinks the University of North Dakota might be ready for a jump to I-AA."
