sagard
Apologies to sagard, who seems to have always placed returning defense first (as I think he predicted PMart would be the gophs biggest loss last year, before it happened). Funny thing is that I picked up that arguement on POI. Specifically it was used on the '02-'03 DU team that to me was the obvious pre-season favorite. Then last year the same persuasive and correct arguement applied to the Gophers losing both DeMarchi and Martin, but many refused to acknowledge how important experienced two way defensemen are. I never really considered DeMarchi to be anything more than what Jake Taylor was last season: Someone to clear the front of the net while he's not occupying the penalty box. I doubt DeMarchi's departure was that bad for the Gophers. If Taylor were the only one to leave this season, his presence probably would not be missed either.
