ethanm Posted September 13, 2004 Posted September 13, 2004 I found this while I was reading a column Gary Miller posted on ESPN.com. If you think the Angels are obsessing about the A's, you're wrong. At least not as much as their fantasy football drafts. Like most major league teams, Anaheim held its drafts Labor Day weekend with most participants gunning for previous champs Troy Percival, Jarrod Washburn, Lackey and Scot Shields. Washburn got his home-state boy Brett Favre. Lackey got the prized LaDainian Tomlinson. Darin Erstad got so serious, he brought in his own league from his home state North Dakota. It's become an annual tradition for the former Nebraska Cornhusker, who played on the 1994 national championship team. Erstad even plays baseball with that football mentality. His North Dakota buddies arrive Labor Day weekend to wherever the Angels are playing in the Midwest to conduct their 12-team draft. Last year it was in nearby Minnesota, but this year, the Dakotans had to ramble across the plains to Cleveland to make their picks. Since they were one shy, and in Cleveland this year, fellow North Dakota native Travis Hafner got roped in. "Pronk" is in two other fantasy leagues, and Hafner feels much better about his teams with the Indians then his rookie sojourn against the men from The Peace Garden State. I guess bringing the whole league to him is a lot more convenient than being the guy slowing the whole draft up by drafting online. Quote
