The only satellite service on a small dish is DirecTV, Dish Network, and a new HDTV service called "Voom". None of the three have any plans to carry Victory at this time, and with a per-subscriber asking price of around $2.20, I doubt it will be on anytime soon. siouxnami
I expect that DirectTV and Dish get different deals. The Twins would be blacked out outside of the Twins home area so in reality they would likely have to pay $2.20 per local subscriber or less. Note that these satelite providers already carry many stations that carry other teams baseball games such as NESN and Fox Sports (fill in the blank). iceberg
Victory is asking for 2.20 per subscriber to all carriers (cable & Satellite). All the big name companies (Time Warner, Comcast, Charter, Medicom, Midcontinent, Dish, Direct) have basically told them to F off. They arent paying that. Here is a comparison...YES (the Yankees Network) was asking for $2 per subscriber. I dont think Victory has more programming right now than YES, yet they are asking for more? The big issue is all the big names want to make Victory ala-carte. If you want to see it, you have to pay extra. Victory wants it in the same boat as FSN, the basic package. Also, the Twins are on outside the Minneapolis area. There are some games on KSTC 45 in the Twin Cities. Those games will also be shown on Victory outside the Mpls area. radionews
thanks for the info but to clarify I am talking about the dish (not directv or dish network) that folks have been installing just to get the sioux sports network. are those dishes able to pick up victory sports? iceberg
no what is being installed for the Fighting Sioux Sports Network is called "Free To Air". The dish is a 30" or bigger dish. A regular Dish or Direct is 20" dish. There are no subsctription fees, you buy the equipment and thats it. All the programming you can find is free. As an example, on Galaxy 3 (the satellite that FSSN is on) has some ethinic channels and CCTV, which is a chinese version of CNN. Any subscription channel would not be on the FTA (short for Free to Air) dish. Since Victory is a subscription, it isnt on there. Some of the stuff on FTA are (depending on your setup) Ethnic...lots of it Some Networks..like UPN, WB, PAX, FOX, and 2 ABC's out of Wyoming "Feeds"..these are like news feeds for on location and sports feeds. That is really what the FSSN is..a feed..It shows up on Thursday's at 7 for Sioux Illustrated, and when ther's a home hockey game (and a couple of b-ball games). Otherwise its a blank screen FTA is a hobby. Stuff comes and goes all the time.

There "may" be a chance of picking up Victory if you could find the satellite that they are bouncing off of for the broadcasts. For instance, I got both the FSSN and CSTV version of the Sioux hockey games a couple of weekends ago on my Free To Air system... luck I am sure, but if you got the FTA and a motor mount, I suppose you could eventually find a way to hit the signal before it gets to the cable company... ? Right?
PSB
Right, as long as its on Ku band and uncoded, but remember they can throw the switch at any time and encript! I have also been lucky enough to pick up the odd Sioux away game this season and I can usually get another game at the same time, if not two. Thats the thing about FTA satellite you take what you get, but its got to be motorized dish (and receiver) so you can switch between satellites from inside. You can move the dish by hand, but if you mess it up it will cost to have someone repoint your dish, after you put a motor on you should never need anyone to move your dish again. If you are into sports at all and dont want to pay for a sports package FTA Ku band is an option, plenty of hockey at this time of year, and Empire Sports is in the clear, above all the FSSN, and of course last Saturdays game : )
