  1. Does the fact that we are offering a Juco guard mean that Baker is out of the picture.  Or does it mean nothing?

Prefer Baker over Baldwin at the 2...Baldwin can play some 3 . Baker would be a Soph.  when Baldwin a Sr .

  2. Things are what they are, I think it's obvious. Let's try and stay positive, negativity can go elsewhere on this forum.

With the tournament here, and our new guys coming in, why not look forward to next season?

Presuming everyone is eligible to play I see two different starting lineups possible.

Small (most likely to start this way as Jones seems to like running 3 guard sets)

    1. Hooker, 2. Crandall, 3.  Seales, 4. Shields, 5. Shanks

Cashman could be started in place of either 4/5, especially to go Shanks/Cashman at same time.  Not sure yet, but for rotation purpose this makes sense to me.

Bench is deep with Bernstine, Collins, McDermott, Tyler?, Hobaugh, Benton, Blake, DeRouen?, Coleman?

I think you have to give the three guard lineup serious consideration, as we already know what Hooker is capable of, and give him another year of development, he will be even better.  With Crandall's ability to run point or be a creator/scorer he has to be on the floor to take heat off of Hooker.  Then put Seales out there also and you now have three unselfish players that can score or create, they dont care as long as they are successful.  One may be garnering more defensive pressure and the others will be there to make up for it. I see Hooker resting with Crandall at the 1 and going to a big lineup and creating more mismatches off that.

Big (likely with Crandall at point, but Hooker is obviously capable of running this as well, even Seales if needed)

    1. Crandall, 2. Seales/McDermott, 3. Collins/Shields, 4. Shanks/Bernstine, 5. Cashman

This lineup will be a work in progress to see who fits best where, when needed.  I know thats vague, but different players can create problems defensively for other teams.

I think the most productive lineup will be with Hooker and Crandall in at the same time with another guard playing up with them. The younger players ability to score, coupled with their unselfishness and desire to win should produce a very fun team to watch.

Defensively, these guys all like playing pressure defense, so I'm sure we will see a more sustained full court man, with more rotation to keep them fresh.  We also have players that are adept at getting boards, which is a need for this team.

Here's to hoping for a much improved season!  It should be a good one.

Right On! ..... let the haters stick to the tired old fire Jones Thread

  3. You actually think Jones is going to stay at UND for many many years??

Take your meds! Your fire Jones narrative has been WRONG FOR 453 days have you no pride..  take your garbage where it belongs to the fire jones thread

  4. It almost sounds like since Jones is close to the buyout Faison is killing time to make a move that is financially feasible. Anything short of a dance trip may not save Jones when the contract is up.

    • Rumors I was hearing earlier this offseason about the potential of one or both to leave have kind of died down. I'm hearing there's a chance both de Rouen and Tyler will be back.

  6. High school notebook: Deer Creek's Conner Avants released from letter of intent at Air Force

The 6-foot-7 senior averaged 19.9 points and 10.4 rebounds this past season, hitting 60.5 percent of his field goal tries. He is currently considering other Division I opportunities. 2nd team all state

  7. 6' 10"  McKinley 3rd leading scorer for Stillwater 12.5ppg. last season and 12ppg and 10 boards per game a jr.Likely to Red Shirt at D1.  Could play 4 or 5.  ...Kyle McKinley, 6'10, C- Stillwater, MN Magic Blue/Net Gain 17s

Then out of nowhere comes somebody you would have rarely seen with a ball in his hands not that long ago. I first saw this "unknown" kid playing for the Magic Elite 16s at a Pulley tournament in Eagan this past spring and was surprised by his mobility, speed, and athleticism getting up and down the court. Then by mid summer, he was playing for Net Gain 17s and looked even a little better. He's still pretty raw and needs to get stronger and improve on his skills- he only started playing the game a few years ago- but clearly he's a quick study and that, along with his God given stature has earned D1 interest and even a couple of offers already in the process.

  8. Jake Wright is a great player as well..... Being SDSU recruited Baker out of HS and Ian Theisen was there was the reason I figured they would be going after him hard. It will be interesting to see where he lands. I think he's all conference caliber in either the Big Sky or Summit.

I don't see how Seales would hurt Baker's recruitment? If anything it should help being he'd be playing with high end talent. UND runs an offense where you can easily play 3 guards at once. Crandall is more of a true PG, Baker is kind of a combo PG/SG, Seales can play the 1 2 or 3, and McDemott looks like a 2-3 kind of player from what i have seen. Seems like a good combo.  Both play the 2, Both will be in same class.  Seales would need to play front court/3 spot.   Cortezz may prefer to play the 2 at D1 level  before is career is  done as he has a shot at playing the 2 spot at the pro level... Baker is a straight up  2 guard.

  9. I disagree with this entirely!  And his stats would say otherwise as well. He played 2nd most minutes and was 2nd in 3pt % and makes. If a player decides that he wants to be done with his college career, upon graduation (which is the goal), then congratulations to him. It's unfortunate if he does not come back, he could be valuable next year.  If he wants to be with his family, even more congratulations go to him!  There needs to be more young men in the world like him.

Your light bulb is turned on vs others who's room upstairs is pretty dim

  10. You're right. I don't know how they could have accomplished all they did without him. It's to the point where the Jones supporters need to celebrate a transfer who played one season and quit to move home.

Yeah and Hooker is a terrible recruit because of the teams record and kobe bryant is a bad player now  because  the Lakers have won less than 27% of their games this season. Your a genius!
