  1. I am wondering if anyone hear is an ESPN Insider. ESPN's website has player profiles for all draft eligible players for the 2008 draft and Weston is on their site, but you have to be an Insider to read his profile. I was hoping someone hear would be able to share with the rest of us, the scouting report on Weston.

I have no idea what information it might actually have for him, maybe nothing, but I am curious to find out.

    Thanks for the help.

  2. Let's rephrase the question and see if it makes sense?

How exactly would the UND hockey team picking up the 8th national championship this year (or any year) be good for North Dakota in general?

My answer is any exposure for the State of North Dakota from a winning sports program of _____(insert University here)___ is good for North Dakota in general.

PS: Yes, include Mayville, Minot, Mary, Jamestown, Valley City, Dickinson, Williston, Devils Lake, etc.

Yes, exactly. Exposure for ND sports teams is good for ND.

  3. The Cow College down South is THE enemy, always has been and always will be even if we don't play them in football for another 50 years!

The Gophers have never been our enemy in football. How quickly some of you forget what a true rivalry is, and how much scorn and ridicule the SU faithful heaped on the Sioux football program for so many years, maybe some of you are too young too remember.

I'd rather root for Taliban U than those arrogant SOBs from Fargo.

So if you choose to cheer for the Bison Saturday you can then call yourself a sort of Sioux fan, or a sometimes Sioux fan, or a when it's convenient Sioux fan, but a tried and true bleeds kelly green Sioux fan you can never be.

    Here endeth the lesson.

I enjoy the UND-NDSU rivalry as much as the next guy and happen to work with a lot of NDSU grads and we thrive in giving each other a bad time. That said, I will not be "cheering" for NDSU, but I think an NDSU win is a good thing for ND in general, so I would like them to win. Like it or not, NDSU looking good nationwide looks good for us as well.

I guess I see the "joke" reference you are trying to create, but I would not have necessarily resorted to cheering for Taliban U considering the current timeframe in the world.

I know how much of a Sioux fan that I am, and wanting to see NDSU win this weekend has nothing to do with my allegiance to UND.

    Here endeth the revised lesson.

  4. From those who went to the game, how was the game day atmosphere? How did the Canad play into the situation? How did the parking fees work out? Shuttle system? Tailgating fees?

I live in Bismarck, so we left early Thursday morning (like 8:30 am) to get to GF so we could get a tailgating ticket. We got there around Noon and went straight to the Al. The lady was collecting money for the tailgating tickets. She had no more than 16 parking spots available, so we grabbed one and then were told that we could come back later because we had a numbered spot saved for us, so we did. We showed up about 4:30 to see that they added another ten spots or so to the group of tailgating spots and we lost our spot at the end next to the cones (which was actually a bigger area, because you could use the coned off area). We ended up being able to trade our spot for another, but we were a little discouraged that the spot we paid for was no longer at the location we thought.

There are some kinks to work out, but for the most part went on as usual with no issues.

    Good game, GO SIOUX!!!

  5. My wife and I ran into a couple people down in Orlando in one of the Disney theme parks. Thought that was pretty cool. The best part about seeing someone in a different town wearing Sioux gear is the fact that all you have to say is "Go Sioux!!" and nothing more needs to be said.

I live in Bismarck and was also surprised at how many Sioux fans live here. I have seen quite a few since I moved back here after school, but the best was the day after we beat Michigan 8-5. My wife, son and I were head to toe Sioux gear and we went to the mall and had no less than ten people ask questions about last nights game and/or comments about the game. I was surprised how many fans come out of the woodworks.

As far as I am concerned, the best fan to be is a Sioux fan. GO SIOUX!!!! Today and always.

  6. I live in the western part of the state, so this is good news. I am not much of a Minnesota sports fan, but the coverage of one market is very interesting. I wonder which KFAN shows will make the cut?? As they say they won't change the lineup much.

  7. I am wondering if anyone recorded the games this last weekend. I wanted to and forgot about it. I would compensate anyone who went through the trouble of making me copies. My 22 month old son loves watching Sioux hockey games on tv and I wanted these games for the down time during the summer months. I live in Bismarck, so some sort of transfer would have to be involved, but I'll worry about that later. Any help would be extremely appreciated. Thank you.

  8. FIRST off, iramurphy made a great point.

SECONDLY, I have a conspiracy proposition to post to you.

Grieco is young, and he also watched what happened to Tormey. Now, I understand the two situations were entirely different, but it is easier for us to distinguish that than he is when he is staring down a player crashing the net. MTU crashed the net all weekend long and I wonder if Grieco might have flinched for a split second (double checked the stick blade was down) before putting his glove hand in the path of the MTU player's skates? I thought of this because there's no way I could stare down a chargine player from the other team without getting a bit scared, especially while being on my hands and knees with a thin piece of wood or composite standing between me and a severred tendon.

I can understand what you are saying and maybe that is what happened, but if he is not able to make an effort at the save because of your desription then we have more problems than I thought.

I can also make a conspiracy that Phil has been guessing a lot this year on shots. I can picture a number of instances where he has gone down into the butterfly and then the shot glances off of him high or his stick high and gone in. After these goals he then proceeds to make a gesture of frustration in the form of I knew I should have not dropped yet. This causes me to think that he his not reading the puck well and trying to make his odds work for him. Just something to think about. I think Phil's biggest problem was changing numbers and face masks. The all black mask was awesome, bring it back with #34 Phil for the sake of the team.

Regardless, whether Grieco is ready or not the team needs to work him in, because Phil has not shown the ability to be a one man show type of player. Previous two years he has played very well with shared time, just didn't receive a lot of puck support from the offense. Some goalies cannot handle the entire load.

  9. I have never really questioned too many decisions Hak has made in his time as head coach, but I completely disagreed with the early pulling of Grieco. Yeah the first goal was a big softy, but the second one I thought he was in position to stop the shooter and like always there is no one back checking to get the trailer.

Phil and Grieco have both looked shaky at times and great at times. It is hard to ask your goaltenders to be consistent when the defense is just as inconsistent if not worse. Lot of issues to resolve before this team can even think about moving up in the WCHA. I am not saying we need to mail it in (we have seen the past two years where bad starts have gotten us), but realizing this could get ugly fast in not out of the question. With our horrible conference record we cannot afford to lose any games in the Dartmouth tournament. Right now we need wins and that looks like the best place to get them.

  10. I was born in Bismarck, ND and then moved to Crosby ND for a year or so, then my family moved to Dickinson and we lived there for about 5 years. Then moved onto Bismarck again. Stayed there until I went to school in GF and lived there for 5 years. Had to move back to Bismarck for a job and I miss GF more and more everyday.

  11. I know people will still wear their Fighting Sioux regalia with pride even if the name is retired. However those who are affected by the name personally, mostly Native people, will be able to have one door shut to that once allowed racism. Yes racism will always exist, but atleast people won't be able to hide behind a sports nickname if that is the case. And those of us who enjoy sports, can go to the game without hearing words being yelled out that seem to be directed towards their heritage, or seeing imagery being used disrespectfully.

If the name is retired, say if I'm sitting at some concert or other event, perhaps in Minnesota, with my children and family.. and hear someone come by knowing I'm from North Dakota, and say, "Sioux Suck!" I will know that it is actually being directed towards my family and can handle it the situation without someone hiding behind "I was referring to UND."

anyway... I don't have time to write a big essay, so this will have to suffice for an answer.

How is someone to know you are from North Dakota if you are in another state. Just looking at you because you are Native American, I find it hard to believe that someone is going to assume you are from ND and say 'Sioux Suck'. Granted the form of that "chant" is not favorable, it has everything to do with a sporting nature. If someone is at an athletic event and is cheering against the Sioux with that phrase, I doubt they are thinking....'I am making sure all Native Americans know I am insulting them'. Seems a bit over the top.

  12. This one counts for me.

Tomorrow night my unborn child will attend his/her first Sioux game.

Here's to a great game and a future Sioux Hockey hopefull.

I too will be taking my 18 month old son to his first game and I am so excited to see his reaction.

We watch home games on TV and NHL games and he gets so excited, pointing and yelling.

    Its going to be awesome
