Pretty sure he doesn't have to sign it and I doubt he will if he doesn't have to. The bill is just way too divisive and has the potential to create some nasty debates when it comes to the legislature vs the SBoHE. It also sticks UND with the nickname and does nothing to solve the problem with the NCAA.
Vote breakdown and a quote from the Gov saying he plans to sign the bill

Vote breakdown and a quote from the Gov saying he plans to sign the bill

He would be committing political suicide if he doesn't sign it.
I think it would be so detrimental you could call it murder!

Does the Gov have balls enough to veto?
-
The State Senate Passed House bill 1263 by 28-15. Now to you Mr. Governor.

Huh? I've been a Sioux fan for 25 years. You obviously can't handle your booze as Wilbur and I were taking pokes at rumor spreaders. I don't have a spine? I'd be happy to say anything to your face if you want to test my spine. Till then grow up.
Juke, my bad.
Im new to this forum but have been on other forums across the league for quite a while. I obviously didn't catch the content of your conversation and missed the friendly banter.
I mean no offense to fellow Sioux fans. I assumed you were some punk from SCSU or ....... take your pick, and am just tired of this whole Kristo fiasco.
Again, My aplology , and GO Sioux!!

No personal attacks.
There are still comments left to make on this thread... I think. Not sure what your personal attacks will do to the thread.
This Kristo stuff is just so old and tiring, and has nothing to do with with the last 2-3 weeks.

This is a very informative post +++. However, how come a person in the form of a mascot, dressed/painted the same exact way as the logo would be considered disrespectful?
Good question. let me answer with a question. What's the difference between a respectful representation and a mocking jacka$$?
There is a reason we don't have someone dressed up in a costume parading around the ice and stands with the cheerleaders. The University of North Dakota does not have a "mascot". We have a nickname, and we need to be respectful because we represent the state, and the Sioux nation.

A mascot does not provide respect nor honor the Sioux nation. However, the logo does and it's designer, Bennet Brien, UND grad in 1999 was asked to design a new logo.
"Brien says all aspects of the logo, from the profile of the face to the colors, mean something. "Like red was for the blood, feathers for bravery," said Brien."
North Dakota does respect the Sioux and I am proud of the fact of how many NA students have graduated or are currently enrolled at UND, which btw is one of the top universities in the country with NA enrollment.
I am also honored that a sound majority of Sioux of the Spirit Lake Tribe agree with me...67% voted in favor of keeping. The Standing Rock Tribe also has solid support but has been disenfanchised by its ruling council even though its members clearly wish to have a vote.
I hope this helps.
This is correct. my Aunt is a good friend of his. This Christmas she gave me an framed autographed drawing of the Indian head from him. It's beautiful. on the back of the frame is a few pictures she took while he was drawing it. Also a write up that he did about the meanings of all the pieces. Here is what it says.....
" The Sioux Logo
His gaze is that of focus and determination, necessary in life and in the search for knowledge and wisdom.
The feathers stand for brave and honorable things achieved in one's life.
Red stand's for the life blood given us by our creator, and that of our ancestors, who sacrificed that we may be hear and have our moment in time.
Green symbolizes growth and the gift of the earth.
Yellow symbolizes the sun's warmth and light, necessary for us as we continue our life's journey.
White, purity of mind, respect for life, respect for all people's"
Then signed "All my best wishes, Bennett Brien"
Where is this so called Abusiveness and Hostility?
Tuff to see but I took a picture and set it as my avitar.

I don't have an answer. Except to say that our elected officials are finally listening to their people. They should have done this 15 years ago in the face of Terry Wanless' nonsense. They should ahev done this 10 years ago to coincide with the opening of the new Ralph. They should have done this in the 1970's when the Spirit Lake elders blessed the use of the name. An important part of the way of life in North Dakota was (is) under direct, hostile, and utterly baseless assault, and somebody in Bismarck decided enough was enough.
Well my thoughts are:
1) The NCAA isn't out to get UND.
2) They dont really care if we are called Fighting Sioux or something else
3) They want to know we have approval from the 2 namesake tribes
4) LETS GIVE IT TO THEM
5) The nickname oppents can eat $hIt

Question.
Why are we putting so much effort into this bill? From the sounds of it, it's only going to lead to more lawsuits, more $$ spent, and a pi$$ed of NCAA.
Why not put this effort into getting a blessing from the other tribe that we need it from?

NOW on to the Senate

Your right. my bad
-
goofers up 3-0 after 1 period.

....
I have wondered, and I am still grappling with the question: Who is UND? Who are we? Who has the right to speak for UND?
.....
We are one. We are North Dakota.
