  1. Hail to the Bison. Yes.

Seriously? Ok, we know your nephew is a bizon qb, awesome, go to bizonville to hail to them. (I'm happy you cheer on your family regardless of team i just dont like seeing the celebration for them here)

  2. If UMD is down as some suggest, this would be the weekend IMO to put Rocco up on the top line. Rowney IMO needs to center the 2nd line with Easy Mac going back to wing.

It's not like this squad is lighting it up offensively. Rocco can fly and so can Kristo. That is just a total mismatch for anyone.

I, too, would really like to see this for an entire game/weekend. Like you said, the team isn't lighting up the scoreboard right now and Hak seems to like to experiment in October/November.

  3. Defensively you have to make a decision:

    - rush three or four and play tight man coverage with a safety over the top (because you're not going to get pressure)

    or

    - rush five or six and play loose zone coverage (hoping to stop the pass before it comes)

What I see is UND playing loose zone (can you say "12 yards off the line") and only rushing three.

That's not "bend don't break"; that's "give until it hurts".

As I was watching the game last Saturday all I could think of was that the team was playing "prevent" defense in the first quarter. It just seemed weird watching it happen.

  4. All these techno talk confuses me so I have one simple question. If we were watching games on Fox College last year in AZ now the only way the games we will get the games is with a internet stream?

I don't know if FCS was still showing this year's hockey games or not but page 17 of the football media guide released today shows that Midco is showing an "x" amount of games for all sports, FCS is showing ALL home mens hockey games and that Root Sports is televising the Montana game.

Like I said, I don't know if the FCS plan included this year or not but it appears that everyone will get to watch hockey for at least one more year.

  5. Is that true that Cable One in Fargo offered the UND games that were on Midco last year to their customers? The only complaint I have heard about our Sports Network is that it is not available in Fargo. If it is offered in Fargo, then our sports television package is really tremendous.

As a Fargo customer with CableOne I don't know if there were any games that were on FSSN that I didn't get. The only games I didn't get were the games on CBS Sports because CableOne doesn't offer that channel. If a game was on FCS (CO channel 306-308), FSSN (CO channel 70) or the Big Ten Network (CO channel 310 I think) I was able to watch the games.

If the games were live on TV chances were that I would be able to watch them. This was true for all sports and not just the hockey games. (however, I don't get some of the games when UND is on the road like Bemidji or St. Cloud where I would have to go somewhere else where Midco cable was provided in order to watch the games)

Last year CableOne dedicated channel 70 to FSSN, it used to be that once the games started they would be shown on channel 45 which was a channel for infomercials only.

  6. Johnyboy - Please tell us the significant benefit UND gets from this? Just for arguments sake lets say UND's football attendance remains the same as it was this past year (7,850). Assuming this is the only game UND can sell out your saying that UND gets a signifcant benefit by selling 4,000 extra tickets once every four years?

  7. Just playing devils advocate here but does anyone know if FCS was going to be renewing the contract after the 2012-2013 season? Per Schlossman's post the contract was ending after the 2013 season. (I personally think they would have renewed the contract but don't know that for certain)

Also does anyone know what the main reason for leaving the WCHA was? I've always had the understanding that with Wisconsin and Minnesota leaving that the smaller schools were going to be in the voting majority and would have more control in how the conference was going to be run. I don't know if there's any truth behind it but on the surface it makes sense.

I'm also disappointed seeing what's transpired but it's only been one day. They've got a year and a half to figure something out so I'm going to stay optomistic for a while.

  8. The FargoDome's new turf is said to be costing in the neighborhood of $3 million, with bids expected to "come in lower". Today's GF Herald estimated the new turf at the Alerus Center to be $4 milliion. And it sounded like that was a bottom number, as bids may be higher.

Serious question here... why the huge difference? Is this because of a bidding war?

I would guess that the cost of the turf itself is probably similar at both locations if they are both specified as the exact same product. My guess for the large difference in cost for each project would be for all of the other work required to handle the new turf.

The existing pits at the Fargodome don't need much work done to them to accept the new turf whereas the Alerus center pits need to be almost completely redone for the new turf.

  9. The request for proposals for the new field turf are out and it looks like the endzones will have NORTH DAKOTA written in each. They will also be keeping the huge Alerus Center photos that span just under 30 yards apiece. They also have options to add the Big Sky logos at the 25 yard lines. The Big Sky logos looked to be in an odd location which is between the boundry line and the numbers. Maybe it's the common location for conference logos but it just seemed strange looking at it from above. The specific font and color of the endzone lettering will be determined by UND at a later date.
