Great objective analysis by JK. MavsFan is correct that Joseph is probably too small to go pro, but Stevenson leaving would not surprise me. I'm counting on both returning. Mankato also will have Backes, but I agree with JK that the Sioux recruiting class of Murray-Smaby-Stafford looks stronger on paper. The key again will be goaltending.
Anyone who predicts that the Sioux are slated for 4th or 5th is not being objective. Yellowdog has no objectivity. This is the same person who started a post on USCHO about why the Sioux have won 7 national championships, and then proceeded to spin the same garbage that Sid Hartman has for years about 25 year old Canadians, etc. When he was called on it, he babbled and backtracked, exposing the fact that he's one stage below developmentally disabled. I would love to sit down with Yellowdog for about 30 seconds some time and have him tell me everything that he knows about hockey. He should have some time left over to do other things.
That's not nice, but the only one dumb enough to believe all of that was you. I think you were the one who actually believed I was sid, so that shows your intelligence level now doesn't it. I had no hostility in my posts (ok very little) and you come in saying this stuff which shows your intelligence level. I'm sorry my developmentally disabled self cannot hold a candle to your hockey knowledge skateshattrick, maybe someday you can teach me how you got so smart and gullible. You never addressed the gopher recruiting class oh great one, how do they stack up? Please tell me your opinion because it obviously is the right one. And let me guess the gophers, mavs, and sioux are all your favorite teams so your objectivity cannot be questioned.

I can buy everything in your argument except a few things. Potulny/Irmen in my opinion is better than Murray/Stafford. Our duo did it against better competition than yours. Remember alot of sioux fans still believe Parise is better than Vanek, and we all know now that this is not true.
It is nice to have all of those players back next year except one little fact, not many of them were very good. So if they don't get better you will just have an older average team. The sioux did not play well down the stretch when it counts and in order to bring optimism to sioux fans those young player should have been getting better and they were not. As soon as the sioux quit playing canisius their weeknesses were exposed. That being said, I still believe they are a good team. They, however, are not as good as some in your hood would lead you to believe.
Here is a little look at the only good teams the sioux played last year and the records against those teams.
Mankato 1-2-1
Minnesota 1-1
Denver 2-2-1
CC 0-2-2
UMD 0-2-1
St.cloud 3-1
Overall against these teams is 7-10-6 and if you take out the two worst teams in my opinion(Denver and St.cloud) that drops to 2-7-5. not a good sign. only other quality win was Michigan.

Overall 11-7-8 without Denver and St.cloud 9-6-5. This also was a much tougher schedule than nodak played. I only used Tournament teams and I left Mercyhurst out of it for obvious reasons.
You also try to suggest that the sioux got better at the end. 7-11-2 in their last 20. Those 7 wins were against the following quality opponents. Wisconsin x2, Alaska x2, Denver x2, and Michigan Tech. Not exactly burning it up. 21 games back was a win against Minnesota which is the last quality sioux victory almost 4 months ago. I am just trying to point out some things here. They are not as good as some of the sioux fans think and the signs for failure were quite obvious. All of the other things you talk about still do not help the sioux's dreadful goaltending. Just my two cents worth

This is the kind of statement I was referring to earlier. Who other than some people on this board believes that UND could contend next year. Mankato and Minnesota are both returning teams that were far better than sioux this year. Minnesota also has a better recruiting class. (ie. the player of the year in the USHL and the highest scoring defensman in the USHL) I know it is hard for you guys to believe, but the sioux has work to do. Watch for the preseason polls next year, I bet the sioux are picked no higher than 4th behind Minnesota, Mankato, and UMD. Remember your season fell apart when Hale was out and Parise dissappeared and Hale is now gone for good without nearly as good of a replacement. I hope for all of your sake the sioux surprise and do better than this, but to think they can contend based on what is coming back is a long shot at best.

It wasn't me either. I just got back from grand forks and as you all know, you don't have computers up there yet. Just kidding, thanks to everyone for the mostly kind words. It was a really awesome weekend to be a gopher fan. I hope we can 3 peat, but it will be a very difficult accomplishment. I expect noone in wcha to lay down and just let the gophers have it. We may also lose some serious talent this year. I hope not, but it is very possible. I personally think Vanek is the only one ready for the next level. Martin,Ballard,Koalska, etc are not ready. Potulny would possibly be ready, but I think he will stay to play with his brother next year. We may need some guys to leave to be able to keep everyone happy next year. Only 2 guys leaving and I think 6 coming in means less time for some who saw alot of time this year. I hope for all of you guy's sake the sioux do get better so the gophers have some competition because I think the sioux might be the only ones who can supply it. Well maybe UMD or Mankato, but I would rather see it coming from the sioux. You guys have nothing else to live for. Ok I had to take one shot. I'll keep monitoring the board and watching for any outlandish statements from drunk sioux fans, but otherwise I will leave you all alone until the renewal of the rivalry next year.

And Kunitz was second this year in scoring...and I think he was overrated too. I wasn't saying that he was a bad player, I just think that people think he is better than he actually is. I've seen guys bump him off the puck rather easily since high school. But, this is just MY opinion.

Honestly I dont' think there is that much difference between UND and UofM maybe a few players. Your goaltenders aren't any better than our top goalie Brandt matches up well with Weber, also . J.J. isn't a world by any stretch of the imagination. Your defense has two players that I consider very good P. Martin and Ballard, the other defensemen on your team are not better than the other team's 3-6 defensemen. Your forwards are a wash... Keep crowing, we will talk to the Gopher Rubes when Michigan Beats the Dirty Gophers in the semi finals...

I know who's fans are not going to be at this or last year's frozen four. psst--it's the sioux's. You know why, because their teams stunk and didn't make it. There were plenty of gopher fans at the game last week. As for the regional at the ralph. I was wondering why it would be full of sioux fans. You are all closet gopher fans aren't you. The gophers are the host school at Mariucci west that year, not the sioux. The sioux won't even be in the tournament, they will lose both games to Canisius that year and be out of it by November.

I don't see a whole lot of natives of north dakota winning championships for them. 4 of the 5 goals in the championship game were scored by minnesotans. So as I see it without Minnesotans we lose that game. I don't want to sound like sid, but traditionally nodak has had older players who are ready for the nhl sooner because of age. Minnesota traditionally recruited the high school senior who pro scouts wanted to see stay in school to age. Minnesota now is recruiting older junior players. We also lose our fair share of players to the nhl, but since our players are younger we also lose them for 2 weekends every year for the juniors. People in Nodak wanted to talk about losing Parise as if it only happens to them, when in reality it happens to the gophs every year. I think if you look over the pro ranks there are far more minnesota players playing professionally, I will give you that the nodak grads are probably doing better in the nhl right now. It really drives me nuts to see blake doing well. i was answering two different posts here, i hope it isn't too confusing.
