  1. I do hope that this team sweeps this weekend.  Last night it hit me that next weekend could be the last of UND hockey this year.  I am not ready for this yet, and I hope the team has something to say about that too.  Sounds like Shaw is going to be out again, which just means next man up.  On a side note, I am hoping I can watch NCHC.TV on my Samsung Smart TV.  Last year when I tried, it was a no go.  I was able to watch a few of the videos on it last night, so hopefully that is a good harbinger of thinks to come and I can watch the games on the TV and not computer.

  2. Anyone else find it ironic that Brad wrote an article about diving/embellishment this week.  If I remember correctly, there were 2 of these that happened the last time Miami was here and neither was called.  Both ended up with goals on the power play that followed.

I don't know what calendar you go by.  On my calendar, St Patrick's day is the 17th.  ;)

Interesting stat, since Denver repeated as National Champions in 2004-2005, here is how the defending champion has performed the following season:

2005-2006: Denver - Missed NCAA Tournament

2006-2007: Wisconsin - Missed NCAA Tournament

2007-2008: Michigan State - Lost in Regional Final

2008-2009: Boston College - Missed NCAA Tournament

2009-2010: Boston University - Missed NCAA Tournament

2010-2011: Boston College - Lost First Round

2011-2012: Minnesota Duluth - Lost in Regional Final

2012-2013: Boston College - Lost First Round

2013-2014: Yale - Missed NCAA Tournament

2014-2015: Union - Missed NCAA Tournament

2015-2016: Providence - Lost in First Round

So, 6 out of the 11 defending national champions failed to make the NCAA Tournament.  Of the 5 that did, 3 lost in the First Round, and no one made the Frozen Four.

I know we were all hopeful for a strong season culminating in Chicago, but recent history suggests that it is very difficult for defending champions to even make the NCAA Tournament, let alone making the Frozen Four.  I'm still holding out hope that this team can sweep Miami, win a First Round series against St. Cloud and see what happens at the Frozen Faceoff; however, I'm not going to hold my breath.  At least, if the Sioux fail spectacularly in the next two weekends, we can all re-watch last year's NCAA Tournament and relive what was truly an amazing season.

One of the common denominators that is present in all these teams, it was strong upperclassman  leadership that got them the championship.  UND had the same case.

Hey, thanks for the help.  Now I just need to concince her to take 12 hours of PTO from her Friday and Saturday overnight shift and I'm golden.  After all, I don't want to be less of a fan because I'm not meeting the minimum games attended requirement, right?

What, there is a minimum game attendance requirement to keep my green card?  Dang, I guess I am out then since I haven't gone to any this year. ???

Yea, I'm one of those half-ass UND fans who has a problem spending $500 or so for the entire family to spend a weekend watching hockey.

They say admitting the addiction is the first part of recovery. I have this addiction too. ;)

Our third string goalie who hasn't really seen much ice time will start next year.... Be careful what you wish for.

Or it may be the kid from the USHL?  I am well aware of what I am talking about.  Johnson is not playing well this year and it shows what a great defense in front of a goalie does him.  He has let in so many weak goals this year and it actually caused a benching in one game against Miami.  It may be time for the same.

St. Cloud plays CC at home.

UND plays Miami on the road.

I'd say St Cloud has a good chance to pass UND for home ice.

And last road trip UND was swept.  Miami split with UND last time they were here.  They are only 6 points back of UND.  My statement had nothing to say about home ice, it was look where we may end up.

Just got a call from the NCHC about buying tickets to the Frozen Faceoff. I told the lady that the only way i would go is if UND makes it. She didn't sound too excited about that.

I got the same phone call, which tells me that they are down in sales.  They also asked a bunch of questions about the current tournament.  Sounds like they are hearing loud and clear that we want it back at the X.  Bottom line is I told her the same that if UND isn't there, neither am I.

  10. Yeah, someone is going down or up.  We have Poolman that will be gone next year.  We have Ausmus and Hrynkiw who will be gone next year.  One, both or none of Boesser and Jost will be gone.  Plus that one surprise that we always have.  I don't foresee a lot of change otherwise.  We all said that them losing Schmaltz last year was a surprise and I don't think that Berry had a late guy who he could pull in.  I don't think that coaches are the problem, it is youth and living on the success of last night/year that is killing this team.
