  1. I just saw that there is a list of cities you can submit essays to bolster their status, and Grand Forks isn't one of them. You can, however, submit an essay making a case for Cavalier, ND if you like.

I interpret that as just being an up to date list of towns already nominated. I think there is still the option to either nominate an additional town or, if the town is already listed, to submit an additional essay to bolster that town's existing nomination.

The "Guidelines" state that nominations will be accepted through May 16, 2008.

  2. Some high schools churn out a half-dozen D-1 scholarship players a year and have a long list of NFL players. You're going to argue North Dakota's claim to fame on the basis of one mediocre NFL tight end fullback? :silly:

I just figured if we were listing Bollinger.....

Personally, I wouldn't want to argue North Dakota's claim to fame on any player that plays for the Vikings.... I'm probably going to get it for that one....Sorry, Vikings fans!

  3. Things to add/change

    1. Central hockey state titles from 24 to 26

    2. Red River boys and girls tennis championships

    3. UND Swimming and Diving Championships

    4. UND Football Championship (NCAA and NCC)

    5. UND Basketball Championships.

Those are just a few things that I feel could be added to make the state better at more than a few things.

Found this info in the media guides on FightingSioux.com

    Men's Basketball - 18 NCC Championships

Women's Basketball Div II NCAA 97-98-99 and 11 NCC Championships

Men's Football - 24 NCC Championships (14 outright titles and 10 shared titles)

    Jim Kleinsasser Minnesota Vikings.

  4. It all really depends on how bad the MCL is and what kind of surgery and recovery he is going to need. Obviously, yes Edmonton would probably pick up the surgery tab on certain conditions but they also might want him to stay and make sure he can rehabilitate and play at the same level. Just thank God it wasn't the ACL :silly: (Trust me, I know)

I just had ACL reconstruction after tearing my ACL, MCL and Meniscus. What I gathered from my ortho doc is that the MCL (provided it's not completely severed) can usually heal itself through an aggressive rehab program and no surgery. Hopefully that is the extent of Chorney's injury. It looked brutal. I wish him the best of luck in his recovery and rehab!

  5. I would like to apolgize for causing alot of anger on this topic. I'm been called newbee, band wagon jumper, and old lady :) . When I posted, I was angry about the season ending loss. I wish i would have been more eliquite with my words. Although I don't post often, I read this site daily. I just wish the team would have gotten together quietly and reflected on the year that was, and the future. Sorry again...

I assume I was being called a newbee, band wagon jumper and old lady as well. I think we're in the somewhat of the same situation here, people assume because we don't post often, or we're new members, we must also be new Sioux hockey fans as well.

I think that reiterates that it's must be part of human nature to reach a conclusion about a situation before gathering all of the facts.

Everyone's frustrated with the loss to BC. Our time will come again.

  6. No. I had heard it was a ginger ale party.

Maybe it was - my point was that people should gather the facts before jumping to conclusions.

Oh wait, on the other hand, maybe we should just give the public limited facts on situations and then completely avoid the legal system and just let the public fill in the blank plotlines and reach a binding conclusion. It'll be like a real-life "Choose Your Own Adventure" book, except it will really be "Choose Your Favorite Sioux Hockey Player's Adventure."

  7. I said I lost a little respect for TJ with this incident.BTW I have played the game for the last 40 years and still do and also coach the game.I know I personally would of taken the defeat a little more seriously and not gone to a big party and celebrate it.He is 21 now not 16.This has nothing to do with my respect for the way he plays the game because nobody plays with more grit and heart than he does.Believe me I am going to miss watching him.

I didn't hear the news report, so I may be wrong here. I apologize if I am.

Anyway, do we know this was a "big party"? I believe the noisy party or gathering ordinance merely requires that it be a gathering of 2 or more people. Unless reported otherwise, for all we know it may have simply been Oshie and VV hanging out.

Also, do we know alcohol was involved or is everyone just assuming that as well? Not that I would berate them for drinking after that game anyway. I wonder how many fans went out and got completely tanked after that loss in reaction to their disappointment? I won't fault any player for doing the same.

Just asking. I prefer to gather the facts before jumping all over people.

  8. Ok, clearly a citation for a noisy party or gathering is not a felony. That is ridiculous.

Also, Oshie has not been convicted of anything concerning the disorderly conduct charge from Dec (the "elevator incident"). He's merely been charged with disorderly conduct as of today. I'm pretty sure the last thing that was reported on this was that the case had been moved from Municipal to District Court and the trial has yet to occur.

So, let's not lump those charged with offense into the same group as those who have actual convictions. How about if we let the system run its course before passing judgment?

Finally, it never ceases to amaze me when people complain about the police actually doing their jobs. I'm pretty sure the academy doesn't teach them to only issue citations and make arrests if the subjects are not UND Hockey players.

I'm just as much a fan of the team as anyone else in this city. However, there are consequences for breaking the law, no matter who commits the offense.

  9. What's really needed is a public apology to the fans.

We [the fans] did our part, it's too bad the boys couldn't at least have tried to do theirs.

Mafiaman - I'll second your "Wow"

What a ridiculous notion that the team needs to make a public apology. I personally would like to thank them for a great season. You can't win them all. I understand everyone is disappointed, but I'm fairly confident no fan is more disappointed than the actual players or coaching staff themselves. Let's face it, nobody shows up to a game to lose, but everyone knows only one team can win. I feel bad that it wasn't the Fighting Sioux, I wanted them to win just like we all did. But to go as far as saying they owe me or any fan an apology, absurd.

What I would like to honestly believe is that a team plays together to win, however there are no guarantees in any game. What I already know is that a team doesn't owe anyone an apology for losing, no matter how much the fans spent on tickets or what they went through to travel to get to the game.

Thanks for a great season Fighting Sioux. I can't wait for next season to start cheering again.

  10. Did the Sioux Men's Hockey Fan Fest in December replace the post-season Fan Appreciation Night at The Ralph?

Just wondering if there will be another chance to meet the team or if we missed out this year.

    Thanks.

    GO SIOUX!

  11. Since this forum is related to the "Stacsh", I was just curious to know if anybody knew why Oshie didn't have one??? I mean I know there are differences in ability, but during the interviews on ESPNU, he looked almost clean shaven.................................

Maybe it looked so bad he decided to spare the rest of us from seeing it.

"I've gotten a lot of questions about that," said Oshie, in reference to his mustache

  12. I think the important thing that everyone needs to ask is, "If the Fighting Sioux name and logo go away, will all the ignorant racism go with it?"

Unfortunately, I don't think it will. People who are racist are that way because they are ignorant, not because a logo makes them that way. The Fighting Sioux name and loge do not make people racist who are not already racist. Most of us here take nothing but pride in the Fighting Sioux name and history. Our pride should not be shot down and crushed because of the unfortunate, idiotic comments made by stupid people. Unfortunately, if the logo goes, these ignorant people will still be on this campus acting much the same offensive way they do today.

On another note - I don't think the school of law would have been offended by a lawyer themed party - we already do enough drinking on our own (people just don't know what "lawyers" look like at the bars) so they don't know we have these "themed" parties all the time already.
