  1. DLW4GOPHERS,

Your post is one of the best examples I have ever seen of the arrogance and cockiness that is Minnesota Golden Rodent Hockey. In a nutshell, you have incapsulated why we will never stop going on and on about an Atlantic Hockey program beating the mighty and unstoppable "Golden Ones". Now, to address your "points":

    1) You need to get over the fact that YOUR biggest rival (it doesn't go both ways, Wisconsin is ours) lost to HC last year. BullCRAP it "doesn't go both ways". :silly: If UND is "just another team" to the Gophers, why is it next to impossible to get tickets for a Sioux-Gopher weekend in Mariucci? I pretty much have given up and resigned myself to watching FSN North (with the sound muted, of course). How come Rodent fans spend more time bashing UND on message boards like this and USCHO than any other school? How come I get smart remarks and cold stares at the Final Five every year from Maroon and Gold garbage wearing fans? I think the name and logo on the front of the jersey has something to do with it. And the jersey I wear doesn't have "Wisconsin" written across it.

    2) If you don't have a ND moment that is better to talk about then what does not say much about your program. Our program has more NCAA and WCHA championships than yours. Nuff said.

    3) The only thing I can come up with is ND beats the Gophers so seldom at the REA, that you have to take joy in someone else beating them. In 2001-02, you took advantage of a young, struggling team with bad goaltending and swept. In 2005-06, you took advantage of a young team that didn't have it's legs underneath it yet and also swept. But when we have our stuff together (2003-04), the Rodents still struggle at the new REA, but not quite as much as the old REA. One of the best things to happen to the Rodents was the old REA closing.

    4) See some of you at Mariucci in January, it should be a fun time. The way my team looks right now, I don't think I will be having much fun. But that could change. These games are always dog fights, no matter what the records of the two teams are.

  2. You know, I can handle what Irmen did. I'm sure he was getting plenty of crap from the fans and that was a "give it back" gesture. Same for what Lammy did in Mpls after the GWG on Saturday. However, I have no issue with that as long as things remain spontaneous and we don't start seeing the "pro sport" mentality. Kessel's deal wouldn't bother me much if it was quick, but the carrying on that I read about concerns me that this is a trend we are going to regret.

I do wonder if the same fans who ripped Lammy are supporting Kessel....

  3. Schedule:

    @ Maine x2

    @ MSU-Mankato x2

    Minnesota x2

    @ BC

    @ Northeastern

Win at home; split on the road theory: 5-3-0 or 0.625

    Actual: 4-2-2 or 0.625

You'll understand why there's little wailing or knashing of teeth from this direction.

The better part: The team didn't get better as the season went along during the last two seasons, but other teams did. That proved to be UND's undoing. I'm hoping that changes this year and I see growth (individually and as a team).

PS - In the future, can't we get a someone like UMD to go along with us on these types of trips so we don't have to play a rested Northeastern squad after going full-tilt-boogie the night before against BC.

    Proposed schedule:

Friday: UMD @ NE, UND @ BC

Saturday: UND @ NE, UMD @ BC

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I have a better idea. Take the Gophers with you and play BC one night and BU the next. Make this like the college hockey showcase with WI, Mich and Mich State. The next year the Boston schools come west. Those games would be fun to see.

  4. I would think that with the resources REA has, they could get the Wisconsin FSN feed to Sioux Sports, they should do that for all away games IMO. As far as the MN feed, that won't happen as they as you know have a contract with the Gophers. Looking for the Sioux to sweep oin Mad-town! Go Sioux!

  5. Taz,

oh i will be in GF next november, wouldn't miss it, already have my tickets. we can disagree all day, the atmosphere in REA is not college, you can bash Mariucci all you want but i would rather watch a game there than REA. of course i'm biased, i'm a u of m graduate thats in me so cool off.

the most noise in REA, including the Denver series was when they blasted "welcome to the jungle" every chance they got, what a special place. Where were all the Sioux faithful on sunday night of that series talk about empty seats.

man, that gopher hate runs deep

  6. great conversation until you came along farce poobah, what a stupid comment.

No Mariucci is not as plush, that is obvious, no arena is, especially one built with public monies. However the atmosphere there will never be matched by REA. The band marching around the concourse pregame, students actually know the fight song, and participating in cheers, a band that plays all game long... that is college athletics. The weekend of the regional was unbelievable in that place, far from cold.

Don't get me wrong, the new Ralph is great...we are still undefeated in the palace. Thank you Ralph. Teams don't dread the trip to GF like they used to, the old place was tough on opposing teams.

  7. The new Ralph continues to screw the students and by doing so you have lost that hostile home ice andvantage you once enjoyed. The atmosphere in the old Ralph was college hockey, I feel like I'm at a professional arena in the new Ralph. Hope they can do something to change that, was much more fun to attend games before. Putting the students in the upper bowl makes no sense at all. But money talks not just in GF but everywhere.

  8. Skateshattrick,

do your homework man, Thomas Vanek just turned 19 in January, he's a whole 6 months older than Parise. The rap agaisn't him that he doesn't play both ends of the ice is bull. He has the one thing you can't teach...size, among, great hands, a quick release, surprising speed when needed..... I can't even count the number of times he comes out of the corner dragging an extra 200 pounds and makes sometlhing happen. Believe me, we wouldn't trade Vanek for Parise either.

  9. don't say all gopher fans cheered for Ferris, this one didn't. I was with a couple of buddies who are Sioux fans and was as loud or louder in my support for the Sioux. However, was interesting to see and entire section of Sioux fans pulling for Mercyhurst and then Ferris the next night

A Gopher Sioux matchup saturday would have been great. Will have to wait for early november in GF..Go Gophers!!!

  10. All the sioux games i've been to this year (3) Brandt has been in goal and has looked fairly good. Yea, Blais will keep you (and the players) guessing all week, that is part of the problem. Mentally these guys are not where they should or need to be.

Go Sioux, be fun to see you at the final 5

prediction...Sioux in 3, with ot win Sunday
