  1. Very glad its Hastings and not Eades. Thats all that can be said. They won't have success at Mankato until they upgrade some things. Doesn't matter if Herb was reincarnated and sent to Mankato to turn around the program, it just won't happen.

I agree, thankful Cary is staying at UND.

  2. I don't get all the worrying about attendance issues in St. Paul. That shouldn't be a reason to put UND there. Shouldn't Gophers as host and in it get plenty of fans for that regional? Now if you want to bring up busing / closest regional excuse...but attendance is not a good argument. Sioux fans travel and Green Bay needs help.

Green bay is a nice Venue

  3. I am not doing the stochastic modeling, but... I don't think we can flip BC or Mich, but a win likely leaves us as #3 overall. That would put us as the #1 in West with Minnesota gaurenteed to be there as a 2 or 3 seed. If the Sioux lose, I have no idea, but probably a 2 seed likely not in Minnesota.

So in summary, win tonight we are number one seed in St Paul regional, lose and go to Green Bay Regional?

  4. Im just flabbergasted that he didn't defend the contract he signed when the legislature was considering the law the first time around. He sat there twiddling his thumbs while the legislature crapped all over his deal.

The more I think about this whole thing I blame I'm starting to blame Wayne as much as Al.

He was trying so hard to not get in the "middle" of it, worried about political damage to himself. He is completely self serving. Who is Wayne working for,

the state or sustaining his own career?

  5. The recent comments by Tim O'Keefe, of the alumni association, are better late than never. I believe most of us want the nickname, but even if the state votes to keep it. It is all the unintended consequences, that I do not think UND can live with in D1 athletics. The state of ND cannot make anyone do anything, especially the NCAA as a private institution club(non profit). Its all sad, and the train is going down the track, I do not think we can stop it

  6. All other things aside (like Kelly referring to UND's "apparent breach of the settlement agreement"), you can't blame the NCAA for not wanting this to turn in to a circus. Maybe they thought they would come and have a nice showdown on the side of the SBoHE, UND administrators and the AG in a game of chicken to put the legislators in their place. They don't deal in public, they make public pronouncements. They still have bigger fish to fry, as in Ohio State, and all the media hoopla has probably made them think twice, so they have now decided that its just not worth it to put up with all this stuff in little ol' North Dakota.

Its all very messy, politically that is...and who wants to fight a whole state of Fighting Sioux Fans.....

  7. Ebay and Stubhub have had some more reasonable prices lately, but they go really fast!

I think in this market, $400 is a "good" price. The jokers trying to sell for $600 or more are idiots.

At the Frozen four in Denver, fans on the losing side of the semifinal. Tickets were plentiful at below 100 dollars for championship game. The economics of this Frozen Four is it is likely that either one or both of UND and Duluth will be in finals. This will be an expensive championship game ticket. Both teams fans will be looking for tickets. It will be interesting to see what the "market" price will be on Friday, after the semifinals.

  8. I feel bad for Martin...in all likelihood, Chambers is painting a picture of him that isn't accurate. In all other interviews, Martin doesn't act like Chambers is saying he is acting.

There are a few quotes from Martin that I feel represent some suppressed anger...and until I get my neck broken and almost die, I can't comment on those feelings.

Best wishes to him in the future.

Your observation I think is really an accurate representation of Martin. I am sure it is easy for Chambers to "shade" a response. Best to Jesse

  9. I'm pulling a 24 hour gig in Iowa on Saturday. I get off 7am Sunday. It's only a 6 hour drive from there to Green Bay. I could make it to see us play Sunday. Is it possible to just buy a ticket for Sunday or will I have to buy the package?

You can buy a ticket for just the championship game. Resch Center website offers the option.

  10. If it was a distraction it's only because he let it be.

If he had fought to keep it he'd be a hero whether he won or lost. Even Kupchella, as empty a suit as he was, at least got some respect for getting on the right side of the issue when he had to.

The SBHE had hoped the issue was over with by the time Kelley took the presidency of UND. I think they felt he would lose political "capital" in the fallout of the nickname going away. Your example of Kupchella is a great example of loss of credibility, now we have Kelley somewhat in the same position. Your observation is accurate.

  11. From what I've read on this board & what I've learned elsewhere, there's no question President Kelley wanted to get rid of the Fighting Sioux name. I still can't believe the name has a chance of staying with the University of North Dakota, a couple weeks ago I thought there was no chance.

I think for President Kelley the nickname was a huge distraction and annoyance. I think the agenda always was to get rid of the nickname.
